For the past few days since we've been here, the fire has not ceased at all. It just kept going as if it were intended to go on forever. We couldn't even get through the barrier that was set in place because it was impenetrable and all the evidence we would need is going to be literal dust. Whoever this was covered their bases well enough so that we wouldn't track them and it pissed me off. They had practically outsmarted us this time, but the next time around we'll be one step ahead.
As for the council, we held our meeting to discuss plans of action as well as increased security measures for the bases. Our security measures were the best in the world compared to the military, they were still pretty weak since that bastard had managed to sneak in. This entire ordeal had completely stressed out the council, especially since the leader of that branch had perished in the fire as well. Not only that, but all of their valuable scientists as well that were constantly giving us information on witches that had been killed or captured.
Aside from the council, a memorial service had been held for those that had died. Their families had come to the memorial and we comforted them the best we could during their time of grief. It was horrible that a lot of children and spouses would never see these people ever again because of those heartless bitches. They were constantly taking the lives of the innocent as if they did not have families to go home to.
"Jesus Christ. This entire situation is bad," My father murmured. The stress of going to these meetings every single day was starting to weigh down on him. It was understandable because no one on the council could come to an agreement on what the next plan of action would be. They figured that just simply retaliating would be too risky and opted to at least think of something else. The entire council was divided because some wanted to retaliate even harder while others wanted a foolproof plan that would help us to solve this issue.
"It's been a couple of days and we still haven't reached an agreement on what to do," He sighed, "This is giving me even more gray hairs."
"The worst part about this entire ordeal is the fact that any type of evidence or footage has been destroyed completely," I mumbled.
"Honestly, I was trying not to even think of that," He grumbled. Any type of video evidence we had that would at least give us a clue was burned along with any other evidence that was there. This person had pretty much made sure that they could not be tracked at all.
"Whoever did this was smart enough to cover their bases completely. They managed to infiltrate the facility without being noticed, they managed to completely fool all of our security officers, they got the bodies of those damn witches that we had taken, and they even made sure to burn down the entire place and leave not one trace of evidence. This person made sure that they could not and would not be caught by us at all," He hissed.
"They're intelligent," I murmured, "I'll give them that, but who's to say that next time they won't fuck up."
"You're right, Axel. At some point they'll get cocky and slip up," He agreed.
"But when?" I inquired.
"We'll just have to wait and see. They won't be able to hide it for long," He answered. He's right. We've caught witches in the past who thought they outsmarted us by causing some devastation to our organization only for them to get cocky and have themselves slaughtered by us. It's only a matter of time before that bitch does the same. When she does, I'll be the one to personally take care of her.
"Anyways, since the situation has gotten to be very dangerous and we don't know if there is going to be a next attack, your sister is coming back home," He informed me.
"Back home? For how long?" I asked.
"She's staying until the threat is taken care of," He answered.
"That sounds reasonable," I nodded. Somehow, I feel like this was an excuse to bring her back home as soon as possible. My dad never liked the idea of her traveling the world by herself. He wanted my sister to just stay by his side forever and continue being his little girl. From his standpoint, I can see why, but at the same time my sister isn't going to be a baby forever. She's going to have to grow up at some point and be considered an adult in his eyes.
"As for your mother, I'm going to have security with her at all times. I don't know if they're going to strike us next, but I'm not taking any chances whatsoever," He informed me.
"You do what you feel is best," I simply stated.
"I would put security on you, but you can already handle yourself," He told me.
"That I can," I nodded.
"This entire situation pisses me off so much, but it's not like we can go back in time and do anything about it," He groaned.
"No we cannot. The only thing to do is just up security and our training regimens so that our new and upcoming members can prevent things like this," I replied.
"That's going to be tiring, but I'm sure you'll do great," He said. This old man-how do you just put this on me without consulting me in the first place? Senile old man.
"You weren't going to ask me if I agreed to it or not?" I asked.
"No, son. You're already one of my best field agents and having you train them makes sense," He replied.
"I agree with that, but don't just lay it on me," I hissed.
"Fine, fine. I'll ask," He chuckled.
"That's better, old man," I nodded.
"I'm not old, son. I've still got some moves in this ripped body of mine, especially when-"
"As much as I appreciate you for bringing me into this world and raising me, just know that I will stab you in the throat," I told him. He laughed.
"I'll cut off an arm of yours before you can even reach for your weapon, Axe," He grinned.
"In your dreams," I scoffed.
"So you want to spar with me and see?" He asked.
"Hurting senior citizens isn't my thing," I smirked.
"Well this senior sure has a lot more to teach you," He cracker his knuckles.
"Don't shit your diapers, old man," I told him.
"It'll be you shitting diapers when I'm through with you," He chuckled.
