(Warning: Cringy and Bad Tempers)
I peak with one eye and then open both eyes wide with a gasp.
"I know right." She gushes. Then, all suave, drags me into the huge room. Room wasn't even the right word for it. I'm speechless there's a couple full grown trees in here as I scan the large space I see houses and biomes mashed up against each other to fit what looks like a whole town.
"H, how many omegas are there?' I ask.
"Hmmm, hundreds." Selkie responds, "But they're not all here."
I grip my heart loosing step, 'I can't do this there are too many! How big is this spaceship?! There's no way this is the same one I was brought aboard, now that I think about it, it's kind of ridiculous to assume that it didn't join up with a mothership at some point.' I'm pulled from my thoughts when I see someone flying overhead and gasp again pointing up.
"Oh that's Drac. I told him his name was close to Dracula-"
"I know who Dracula is."
Was lost to her as she talks over me. "...a blood-sucking vampire in human lore, and he got really offended for some reason." I glance at her briefly wondering if she was being serious. "Hey Dracula!" Selkie yells upwards, "Come meet the new guy!" To my surprise the wings immediately tip downwards and a boy swoops up to land right in front of me. I stumble backwards gaping. He tilts his chin up at me. It's obvious that he wasn't human but even without the giant bat-like wings he had grey skin and black markings from his sharp eyes to bare feet. He bares pointy teeth.
"You better not call me that." He says to me, shocking me with a horrifically gravely, gritty voice. His wings shake themselves off and tuck themselves against his back. I tear my eyes from them still gawking as he stresses, "I'm not a vampire."
I swallow covering my mouth and nose, 'What is that smell!' It's not bad but my eyes are now drawn back to the fact that he's wearing incredibly loose, incredibly sheer black clothing. I think briefly of my unflattering, white jumpsuit. Then stare at his toned chest, muscular arms, and his stomach... I've never seen abs in person before, this is a glorious moment.' I let out a whimper when I realize he's very naked in front of me, 'Don't look down, don't look down.' I chant to myself feeling blood rush to my face. 'I'm sure my expression is priceless.' I think glancing at Selkie who had a dumb grin on her face looking back and forth between us.
The boy's grey eyes slowly drift from mine to examine me, looking lower and lower I shiver as I can actually feel them taking over me. He sniffs and then relaxes a little. He tilts his body towards Selkie talking out of the corner of his mouth, "Why is he just standing there?" I struggle against my failing resolve.
"Uh..." I say stupidly. "You're-You’re beautiful.” I breathe not realizing I was talking out loud while looking into the hypnotic eyes. He reacts like he’s surprised, face changing briefly to a pleased expression before turning into a snarl as Selkie barks out a laugh.
“Him?! Are you looking at the same thing I am?” I feel a flash of guilt, ‘I just made out with my master. I shouldn’t be drooling over other boys, men, aliens whatever.’ But my face burns rebelliously. He examines me thoughtfully. I glance up quickly as he walks towards me.
“I like you,” he says, “You have taste.” He spits the last bit at Selkie who sticks out her tongue.
“Dracula! Vampire!” She insults.
“Hairball.” He resorts back calmly and then immediately turns his attention back to me. “You better not call me that." He repeats.
His wings spread a little, curling like he’s trying to trap me, keep me from running away, “What you said before, you really think so?”
I tense up as he gets uncomfortably close, whimpering and nodding as he touches my chest softly with clawed fingers. 'What is that smell, it's familiar. Right in the back of my head.' Glancing back at Selkie she winks. 'Am I the only one without fangs and claws?’ He touches me suddenly making me gasp. I shiver as he rubs his hands over me feeling my chest and arms, I'm starting to feel faint.
“Where are you from?” He asks. I glance back over to Selkie who was previously shaking from silent laughter, and is now shaking her head with a deadly serious stare.
“A, a lonely planet, w, we didn’t know there were others out there.”
“No, what is the name of it?” He presses, his hands making their way down my stomach. I watch.
“It doesn’t have a name,” I whisper as he purposely avoids going any lower and reaches around behind me to feel back there, I flinch hips bucking forward making him grin, when he can't reach anymore he moves back to the front crouching a little to touch my thighs next. “Like I said," I pant trying to focus, "we thought we were alone we didn’t need to name our planet it was just referred to as home.”
“A planet called Home.” He murmurs, lifting his head so his eyes returned to mine, long, soft, gray eyelashes previously shrouding them; they are incredibly grey with specks of black and white in them. They looked simple from a distance. He stands up straight, he was slightly taller than me. “You feel soft and you have hair all over your body, I’m assuming the climate was cool but not harsh.” I just nod as he looks incredibly pleased with himself and steps even closer, grabbing my head and dragging it forward sniffing me. “You don’t have your original scent anymore.” He finally says with a sigh releasing me and dragging his fingers through my hair, “What are you.” He asks, close enough to kiss me with only a breath between us.
I’m flustered and can’t think properly, “A, a hu-”
“Oh would you look at the time!” Selkie yells, grabbing me and dragging me away from the boy. I protest as she drags me effortlessly behind her. The boy looks confused and suspicious and angry all at once but doesn’t follow. “You idiot,” she hisses quietly, “what did I tell you?”
Finally getting it I yell, “I’m Sylvester!” That sounds nowhere near like what I was saying. “My species is a Hues!”
“That’s stupid he’ll never believe it,” but as Selkie turns around to check Drac relaxes, wings brushing the ground with relief. “Hues?” She asks me after dragging me into the shade of one of the giant trees.
“It was all I could think of starting with hu-” I whisper back.
She stares at me and then shrugs chuckling, “He hates humans. With a passion. He would have killed you if he found out that way.”
“What way?” I ask.
“When he was doing that weird touchy feely thing, that’s his people’s way of greeting strangers apparently. He’s only done it to a few of the other omegas here. And it apparently means a lot of trust, I asked my master.” She huffs.
I’m storming out from behind the tree aiming towards the boy that was still standing there dejectedly.
“Hey wait?!” She exclaims and then just sighs watching me, “whatever.” She growls and then calls after me, “When you’re done flirting I’ll be in my house!” She points to the tree when I glance back and I wave acknowledgment. “They are totally going to mate.” She mutters under her breath, opening a door at the base of the tree and disappearing inside.
Face burning I continue to storm up to the somewhat startled boy he tenses up and leans back as I grab his arms, “I hate humans too!” I cry thinking of my bullies. My useless teachers. On-looking peers. Sometimes even my parents, telling me to wait it out, it would get better. My eyes burn and I’m sure I’m hurting the boy with my tight grip, “I hate them so much,” my voice cracks. His eyes widen at the tears in my eyes and he suddenly envelops me.
"Shh, it's okay," he murmurs, “why don’t you come with me... and tell me what they did to you?” It sounds like he’s gargling rocks but I nod somewhat soothed. Looking back to how I sobbed and raged about my bullies before this felt different, I was actually sharing with someone who’d been hurt too, maybe he’d have advice on how to heal. The boy's wings lift and grabbing me tight he drags me into the air.
We fly towards a cave in a mountain structure at the far end of the omega room. I gasp in delight watching the ground pass below us and his wings pumping strongly. Swooping into the cave entrance he glides through part of his house and plops us down in his nest.
“Now tell me.” He leans in like he’s eager but he looks sad, “Literally nobody else here hates humans, you’re the first to have been hurt by them too.” Guilt washes over me as he stares trustingly.
“Ok, but you’ll hate me afterwards.” I cringe.
Concerned he leans back, “No I won’t,” he grips my hand, “I promise.”
I physically flinch at the promise and bemoan, “I wish you hadn’t said that.”
“Promise not to hate me either.” He demands so intense I feel a sense of dread, I just nod and promise. Relaxing he carefully wraps one of his wings around me, curling the other around himself he gestures for me to start.
“I… I want to keep it brief but… I was really young when humans realized I was an omega.” I use terms I assume he understands. “They established themselves as my dominants, masters, but there were teachers who were supposed to stop that from happening,” I grit my teeth, “They did nothing.” I keep my head down. “My parents were eventually told when it got so bad-” I can’t breathe. I grab my chest remembering the pain. Drac pulls me closer and I take a shuddering breath, “I was too young,” tears form again. “They told me not to fight, to be nice in return, but it only made them bolder.”
I shake my head laughing, “So we moved. But the humans there recognized me as an omega as well. And the cycle started all over again, everytime I came home, more bruises than skin, we would move. They started to get used to my beatings and bruises until one day I ended up in the hospital! Their answer was to move again.” I grab handfuls of my clothes, “For sixteen years… they did nothing to protect me, they ignored me and told me it would get better. And when they couldn’t take the hospital bills anymore they blamed me! Telling me that I should have defended myself, fought back, got help when I was just doing what they told me to do!” I’m hyperventilating and then the boy starts running his claws through my hair, it’s calming and I quickly finish the explanation.“They’re all monsters.” I conclude voice cracking.
I can see that Drac is confused, “Why would I hate you?” He asks.
“Because my parents...were human.”
“That makes sense.” Drac says, “If you were adopted then, of course humans wouldn’t protect you.” I blink starting to cry at how innocent and trusting the scary, intense, grey alien is.
“No Drac, I’m a human.” I watch as Drac's expression goes from concerned for me to rage. He grabs me, dragging me out of his nest.
“You’re a human?” He repeats ice cold. “How could you lie to me about that? Do you think it’s funny? Messing with me?” He gets angrier and angrier dragging me towards the cliff edge.
I grab onto his hand, "Wait, wait, please!" I beg scared for my life as he holds me out, only my toes left on the ledge. “I’m sorry,” I cry, “I wish I wasn’t a human, I hate them! I hate myself!” I sob knees buckling, “I could have saved myself if I was just brave enough, strong enough, but I’m always too scared.” I keep my head bowed until he screeches.
“You’re not a human!” He yanks me back onto the cliff so he can yell in my face, “You don’t think that, that was the first thing I checked for? I would be able to smell it on you!” I gawk up at him, “I can smell the fact that you’re not a human a mile away, do you have no sense of smell? Or are you still making fun of me, was that whole story a lie?” He snarls. And then something in my face quenches the raging fire inside him.
“What do you mean, of course, I’m human? I’ve just been around Master and Selkie and I took a bath.” Drac looks like the floor has dropped from underneath him.
“Oh Syl," he says taking a step back and shaking his head, "you really don’t know...you can’t wash off your species scent." 'Wait, no.' "I can smell them on you." 'But that's, that's not possible.' "I don't recognize the original scent of your species but you’re overwhelmingly not human.” My eyes widen and my mouth opens, lip quivering.
My body lurches forward doubling over as I throw up, I don’t know if it was because of the emotions or just bad timing. But it felt like I was losing my mind, who I was, everything was a lie.
“Wha, what no, m,m,m,my parents were humans.” I gasp wiping blue-ish silver off of my mouth. “If I’m not human, what am I?!”
Suddenly Drac is dragging me back into his cave, “I’m so sorry Syl, I thought you were making fun of me, I didn’t realize you didn’t know, I’m so sorry.” He gravels. I’m shaking uncontrollably and I grab my stomach as I feel like I’m going to throw up again. I’m panicking, losing all sense of the world around me, 'abducted by aliens sure, meet a bunch of omegas after I find out I’m one of them fine, but me being an alien…'
I gasp and panic, “No, no, no I’m human!”
He cups my face, “You have instincts, strong omega instincts, and pheromones, you aren’t fully human at least.” ‘Part-human…’ I feel the world come back into focus, I look at Drac. He must have realized that that helped because he goes on in a ramble, “You could be a genetically modified human, half-human, human cell mixed with an aliens DNA all of that would affect your scent because you’re definitely more than human.”
“Y, yeah,” I shiver, joining in, “Because I look just like one.”
He nods, eyes kind of glazed in thought, “I think you’re pretty though, prettier than any human.” I rub my eyebrows laughing hollowly, “What, humans consider me ugly.” He touches my face and then kisses me. I instantly freeze, heartbeat slowing, mind now lazer point focused on one thing, ‘nakey boy kissing me.’ He pulls away to speak.
“These spots of color,” he brushes my freckles with his thumb, “and your hair,” he runs his fingers through it, “Are so pretty and colorful.” He gently pulls me into another kiss.” I breathe in his cave-like scent, 'that's it, I finally figured it out,' calming down further. “Good.” He murmurs. Picking me up like a princess he carries me back to his nest, his scent getting stronger. ‘My brain feels fuzzy, wasn’t there something super important I was just thinking about?’ Laying me down gently he curls around me and covers both of us in his wings, “Sleep.” He murmurs and I make a soft whimpering noise. “Sleep.” He says again and as I breathe in the smell of water dripping on rock, moss growing on stone, and ancient darkness, I slip underneath consciousness.
