For homeroom, I had to be in Mr. Fowler’s pre-algebra class. It was an honors class, so everyone in homeroom would be doing nothing, but study. I took my usual seat in the middle of the classroom. Barbara sat down to my left, being passive and ignoring me as usual. Eden Calloway, the tallest girl in the whole class at six foot, four inches sat in front of me. I never really liked sitting behind her; she was so tall that I could never see the board.
The bell rang again, meaning that homeroom period was beginning. I took out some science homework I forgot to get done last night and tried to start finishing it up. As I was getting out my notebook and my textbook, the corner of my eye caught the most horrendous sight of my entire life: coming through the door of Mr. Fowler’s classroom was the huge, dark, ominous figure of Hector Markowski.
Mr. Fowler walked to the front of the class and stood right next to him.
“Guys! Guys! I need five seconds of your undivided attention! Let’s welcome our newest honors transfer, Hector! Hector, why don’t you sit in the seat next to Eden over there?”
This couldn't get any worse! That was why Hector was in my lunch period, he got transferred right into my pre-algebra honors class! I couldn’t believe it. My heart felt like dropping into my stomach and my lungs stopped breathing. Why? Why was this all happening? Now, two periods in a row with Hector.
Hector walked towards the seat next to Eden, he glanced at me and gave me the snarkiest smirk in my life that felt like a huge slap in my face.
I kept looking around, trying to figure out how to save myself. My hands patted against my pocket and felt the plastic pack of the rubber controllers. I pulled it out slightly and saw the six remaining stoppers left. I stared at Hector at my left corner and a thousand thoughts were running through my head: make him walk away. Make him transfer out of my class. Make him shove a pencil up his nose. Make him give himself a swirly. Make him run around the hall screaming his head off. Make him fight Eden.
My mind suddenly stopped right there. Did I actually think about making Hector fight Eden? The tallest, toughest volleyball and soccer girl in the whole school? I mean I never really talked to Eden before and I didn’t know her that well besides the fact that she was an all-star athlete and an honors student at school. However, since she was an athlete, she must be tough, bold, and strong! She could totally take Hector down!
I pulled out a rubber controller and my pencil. I looked at Hector, checking to see if he was watching what I was doing. He was just playing on his cell phone, as I expected of him. I quickly wrote down, “I will beat Hector Markowski up” on it. I didn’t want Eden fighting him in this class right in front of me, so I had to wait for the perfect timing.
