"I'm surprised that you even take a break from work on Saturdays," Daphne remarked. The two adults were currently sitting in a dog park together while their furry companions ran around and played with other dogs. They had agreed to meet up with their children at the dog park because their children seemed to get along pretty well. Who were they to keep them away from each other?
"Oh I guess in your eyes I'm a workaholic because I'm the CEO of my own company," He rolled his eyes. If there is one thing Samuel Zhang is not, it's a workaholic. He knows that there are lot of things that need to be done to keep his company up and running, but he doesn't constantly have a computer screen glued to his face or appointments every single second of every single day.
"Yeah. A little," She chuckled.
"I'll have you know that I'm serious about Saturdays being a day of rest and relaxation," He said.
"Hm. Whatever you say, workaholic," Daphne smirked.
"Ha ha ha. You are so funny," He sarcastically said.
"I know right? I should be a comedian," She smiled.
"Yeah," Samuel muttered, "Sitting down."
"Sam!" She exclaimed giggling.
"Underwater," He added laughing.
"So what do you usually do on the weekend aside from hanging out at home like a loner?" Daphne asked.
"Sometimes I'll go out with my friends if they promise not to get us into some deep shit with the law," He answered.
"How deep are we talking?" Daphne inquired.
"Elaborating on it just irritates me even more when it comes to thinking about the outcomes," He frowned deeply.
"That bad, Huh?" Daphne giggled.
"Yes," He nodded.
"Well I can't blame you for looking out for yourself when it comes to your friend. It's very smart of you to do that," Daphne smiled.
"Thanks," Samuel nodded, "Anyways, I'm sure you lead a more exciting life than I do."
"Eh. Sometimes. My friends have calmed down a little and stopped getting into trouble, especially since they're either married or engaged," She explained.
"Lucky," Samuel muttered.
"Oh believe me. I am," Daphne giggled.
"It must be nice to have a calm and fun Saturday night with your friends," He sighed.
"It is nice, but sometimes I like to either sit at home or if my boy toys call me then I'll spend a night with them or something," She said.
"Boy toys, eh?" Sam waggled his eyebrows suggestively while nudging her. Daphne smiled and shook her head.
"Yes I have boy toys. They're just some mutual sexual partners," Daphne informed him.
"I'm surprised you call them that. It feels like I'm talking to someone's fifty year old mother," Samuel said.
"Boy, shut up," She laughed.
"What? It's true," He chuckled, "I've never heard a person our age use boy toy to describe a grown man that they're sleeping with and that's unless they're in their early twenties."
"First of all, I'm in my late twenties to early thirties mister. Second, even if I was fifty, I'm not sleeping with someone old enough to come out my womb. And third, shut up," Daphne said. The handsome man beside her laughed again.
"Can't stand it when the jokes are about you, huh?" He asked.
"No I cannot," She admitted. Sam chuckled.
"Well I'm not surprised that you have 'boy toys'," He said.
"And why is that?" She asked defensively. Sam noticed the shift in her mood and felt bad for how he worded his statement.
"I'm sorry if my wording is offensive, but you don't seem like you're ready for commitment just yet," He told her.
"Oh. It's okay. I can agree with that statement because as much as my family want me to commit to someone and possibly marry them, I don't want to. I've experienced so much pressure to get married and all that from everyone that it doesn't really interest me like it used to when I was a child," She explained.
"Now that I can agree with. My parents are pushing me to get married and have children, but right now I am just not interested," He agreed.
"I commend anyone who does get married, but for me, it's a no," Daphne sighed.
"I feel you. I'm not totally against it, but I haven't found the right woman to want to spend my life with," He said.
"I haven't found the right man. I've been set up one too many times with men that my family approve of and try to push me to marry, but they all turned out to be horrible bastards," Daphne rolled her eyes.
"All the women I've been set up with were either really nice, already in love with someone, or just doing it because they were raised to be housewives rather than want something more," He muttered.
"I, along with sister Faith, was almost raised that way until my dad decided that enough was enough. He wanted us to be more than housewives and to go out into the world doing what we loved," Daphne said.
"Your dad sounds like the type that didn't take shit from anyone," Sam smiled.
"He was. He didn't take shit from my mother either and stood his ground," She chuckled, "That man was the most outspoken, stubborn person I've met in my life."
"I swear we're talking about the same person when it comes to our dads," Samuel chuckled.
"Is your dad a 6'5 giant, dark brown black man with muscles and a stare that can pierce your soul?" Daphne asked.
"No, but he's a 6'2, Asian man that can scold me harsher than anyone when I get into trouble," Samuel laughed. They both laughed together.
"Did you ever tell your dad about how you felt on the topic of marriage?" Samuel asked as they calmed down.
"Yeah. He agreed with me and said that marriage isn't for everybody. He even told me that he supported my decision," Daphne answered.
"Wow. My dad just goes along with my mom," Sam said.
"Yeah no. My father wasn't the type to force me to do things I didn't want to. He would at least give me a choice," She added.
"I wish mine was like that," He muttered.
"I'm sorry," Daphne said.
"It's fine. I do what I can to get out of the topic of dating and marriage, but it's just so tiring being nagged about finding a wife," He sighed in exasperation.
"I hear you," Daphne muttered.
"Sometimes it sucks being an heir," Samuel groaned.
"Because you guys have to carry on the family legacy?" She inquired.
"Bingo," He answered.
"My brother is the heir to my dad's company and he wasn't pressured to do those things until my dad had passed. My mom tried for a couple of years to find him a suitable wife that would stay home and just be taken care of for the rest of her life, but eventually he ended up marrying this girl he dated back in college that was just an ordinary middle class girl that went to school to become an artist," She informed.
"Sounds like he got lucky and found someone your mom didn't thrust upon him," Sam remarked.
"He did and I'm happy for him, but that doesn't stop from constantly bashing her despite the fact that they have two children," Daphne rolled her eyes.
"Your mom is really obsessed with setting you guys up with an heir or heiress," He said.
"As great as it would be to date the male version of Paris Hilton, I'd rather not. Most people I have met are stuck up snobs who have sticks up their asses," She muttered.
"Hm. Aren't they all," He agreed.
"Anyways, enough of this obnoxious conversation involving marriage that makes me want to drink, I'm kind of hungry right now," She said.
"There is a café that I've been wanting to try for a while. We can go there after dropping these two off at home," Sam suggested.
"That's a great idea. Eating fruit for breakfast isn't exactly fulfilling," She said.
"You don't eat breakfast?" He asked.
"No," She shook her head.
"Why not?" Sam questioned.
"I don't know. Sometimes I'll eat breakfast and sometimes I won't," She answered.
"If I didn't have to be at work at the crack of dawn, I would literally drive to your house and force you to go out for breakfast with me," He said.
"If you did do that, then you would be paying," She smirked.
"Oh believe. I will pay just so you can eat a proper breakfast," He told her.
"Such a gentleman. Your mother sure did raise you right," She giggled.
"Of course she did. I wouldn't be the charming and handsome man I am today had she not raised me," He said.
"And I take that compliment back," She frowned.
"You can't take back what was accepted," He laughed.
"Oh yeah? Watch me," She countered, "Cristian!"
As soon as she called his name, the energetic ball of fur bounded over excitedly quickly.
"It took you one try to get him over here. Lucky," I grumbled. She laughed.
"He listens to me sometimes. It'll take at least five calls of his name for him to come to me," She said.
"Let's see if I can get that one on the first try," I told her. I let out a whistle and in return Dave didn't come to me. Another whistle was let out and this time he came bounding over to me.
"Well the second time's a charm," She giggled as she hooked his leash to his collar.
"He's just showing out for you guys," He rolled his eyes. She laughed again and stood up to stretch out her limbs. Cristian mimicked her movements and stretched himself before sitting down on the ground.
"You coming?" She asked.
"Yeah," Sam answered hooking Dave's leash to his collar.
"Alright, scamps. Let's roll out," Daphne said. The four of them strolled out of the park together and towards the parking lot.
"I'm going to shower and change before we meet up if that's alright with you," Daphne said.
"That's totally fine. I might do the same myself," Sam responded.
"Great," Daphne smiled.
"I'm a little sad about splitting these two up," Sam said.
"Me too, but we'll meet up again next week," Daphne assured him. Sam was glad at the fact that the two of them were meeting weekly with their children because he enjoyed spending time with them. It was kind of relaxing in a way to be around Daphne and Cristina and he knew that Dave felt the same way.
"That sounds nice, but I have a business trip next and I'll be gone for a week and a half," He informed her.
"Aww, man. I was looking forward to our meetings," She sighed glumly. He felt his heart swell when she said that. He was glad that she felt the same way because he didn't want to feel like it was one sided.
"Me too," He nodded.
"So where is Dave going to stay?" Daphne inquired.
"I have no idea. My parents are going on a trip for their anniversary, one of my friends is out of town, and the other one is just lazy," Sam informed her. He tried having Mason watch Dave once, but the idiot somehow managed to coerce Elijah into doing it instead. Imagine Sam's irritation and surprise when he got home to find Elijah relaxing on the couch and watching with Dave. After that incident, Sam didn't ask Mason to do it again and just had Elijah take care of his child while he was gone.
"How about I take him care of him while you're gone?" She inquired.
"What? Are you sure?" Sam questioned. He was astonished at the fact that she even suggested it in the first place. It was really nice of her to offer to take care of him while he was away. Sam finding more and more things to like about Daphne every single time they hung out.
"Yeah. We've been hanging out for weeks now and I adore this sweetheart," She answered.
"I don't know. I don't want to burden you," He said.
"You won't be a burden. In fact, I welcome Dave into my home," She assured him.
"I don't know," Sam mumbled warily.
"C'mon, Sam. It'll be fine," She reassured, "Cristian and I could always use some company every once in a while, especially if that company is Dave."
Her offer was very a big help for him because he didn't want Dave to be all alone by himself and he especially didn't want to hire a pet sitter either. The thought of strange people coming in and out of his house made him very wary.
"What do you say, Sam? Will you let this handsome son of yours stay with me while you're away?" She asked.
"Hmm...Okay. He can stay, but you have to call me every single day and you need to-"
"Sam, he will be fine. I'm going to treat him like my own son and make sure that he never wants to leave," She giggled.
"Fine. I'll hold your word to it," He smiled faintly.
"Great. Now let's go change so we can get some food," She remarked. He chuckled.
"Aye, Captain," He said.
