I awoke in a foreign room. On my right was a nightstand. On the nightstand, a glass of what appeared to be water, and what seemed to be a watch or a wristband with a note next to it. The furniture looked familiar, I spotted a couch about 10 feet away from the bed I was laying in. It was made of what appeared to be leather, and light brown in color. The couch was facing a wall with a large black rectangle in the shape of what appeared to be a T.V. in the center of the wall. The odd thing about the T.V. was that it seemed to be built into the wall, clearly not something you'd normally find on Earth. There was also a wardrobe further to the right of my bed, matching the color of the couch.
Everything was oddly not as futuristic as I had expected it to be from what I had seen in the hospital bed. I did notice, however, that next to the wardrobe was a door. The door was completely flat to the wall with no door knob. There was a small spot on the door in place of a door knob that had a picture of a red lock on it, on the wall to the right of the door was another keypad that also had a picture of a red lock similar to what I had seen in the hospital. Other than the futuristic door, there wasn't anything else super special about the room that I had noticed.
I threw off the sheets and furry blankets that covered me, revealing a toned body that I wasn't used to. I was in much better shape here than I was back on Earth. Despite the better shape that I was in, just lifting the covers off of me was painful. Every part of my body ached like I had just finished working out non-stop at the gym for a good 10 hours the day before despite never working out before. It was almost unbearable, and I could almost hear my body begging for me to go back to bed and sleep more. I ignored my muscles pleas and stood up. Or at least attempted to. Immediately, my knees buckled and I fell face-first into the hardwood floor.
"Owwww, fuck." I spoke out loud, my voice sounding completely different than what I was used to. It was much deeper, sounding like a voice-over for a popular commercial that I'd see on T.V. when I was a kid. The same time I spoke was also when I noticed that I could breathe through my nose. Ecstatic at the familiar feeling, I took a very deep breath and held it for a few seconds before releasing. To my surprise, my body felt much better after I had taken that breath and most of my fatigue was gone. I felt a slight warmth in my stomach. Curious, I looked down to see a small red dot the size of an American quarter-dollar right below my belly button.
"What the hell?" I thought to myself as I reached down to touch it. When my hand made contact with the button, it disappeared. At the same time, bright orange lines that seemed to be coming from the same spot the dot was in appeared to be spreading over my body. Single large veins stretched down my legs and my arms, and as they got to my feet and hands, they split into smaller veins that went through my fingers and toes. Looking at my chest, I found that the veins flowed through where my heart, lungs, and stomach would normally be. I couldn't see where the veins on my chest ended, but it seemed like they converged into a single, much larger vein at one point.
"I need a mirror," I thought to myself, as I tried to stand up again. This time, I sprung to my feet and felt lighter than I ever had before. "This is incredible, I feel stronger than I ever had before on Earth," I spoke aloud, and began to jump around the room. The feeling was incredible. I felt like I could jump from building to building with ease. Like I could run a few marathons without breaking a sweat.
After I finished experimenting with my newfound agility, I searched for any-kind of mirror I could find. "Nothing in the bedroom. Surely they wouldn't have locked me inside a bedroom without a bathroom, right?" I looked around the room again for another door, finding an empty doorway that led to what appeared to be a normal bathroom. From the sink to the bathtub, everything was like I remembered back on Earth. They all seemed to be made from either ceramic or porcelain and were white as snow. The bathroom was small, but there was a mirror above the sink.
I walked over to the mirror and I was stunned at my appearance. My skin was perfectly clear, while my nose and mouth were perfectly proportional to each other, giving me a very mature and imposing look when mixed with my perfectly chiseled chin. I would have looked very intimidating if it weren't for my eyes that looked like a clear night sky in Antarctica. The reflection from the robot definitely didn't do a good job at expressing the depth of my eyes. It appeared as though my eyes were a new universe all on their own. Millions of little lights came together to form what looked like an infinite, ever-expanding galaxy.
Getting over my initial surprise, I noticed that the light orange vein was indeed coming together to form a very thick vein that I assumed led into my brain. I wasn't sure what purpose these veins served, but as far as I knew, they weren't malicious. They may have even been the reason I felt so powerful. On a hunch, I put my hand back over where the dot had been, and it reappeared, the warmth leaving my limbs. The dot seemed to be slightly cooler than it was before. "Interesting," The fatigue I had when I had woken up had left me completely, even though the veins were now gone. Whatever that did, it had seemed to heal me and rejuvenate my body. I didn't feel as light as I was, but I guessed that this was how I was normally supposed to feel.
My time of self-examination was cut short when I heard two pairs of footsteps approach from outside the locked door to my room. I exited the bathroom and quickly returned to bed. I didn't bother to put the covers back over me, and lied down on my back, staring at the ceiling.
The door to my room faded, and in walked Dr. Thorne and a woman dressed in a maid outfit. She had orange hair that fell down to her shoulders. As she and Dr. Thorne turned toward me, they stopped in their tracks, surprised. "You're awake already? Impressive, considering the anesthetic should still have another four hours remaining before it wears off. Can you understand me?" I tilted my head slowly, acting as if I were still fatigued from the anesthetic, and I nodded.
"Excellent. As you may have heard in the examination room you were in before you went under, we have given you a new mouth and nose. With this, you have the perfect appearance of a human now. While Mr. Whitehall is currently discussing with the Council about you receiving full rights as a human being, you are now considered a member of the Human Race," Dr. Thorne and the maid to his left resumed their walk over to my bedside. "I am fairly certain that the Council will approve of your citizenship, as Mr. Whitehall has assured that he has ties within the Council. That being said, since you are my creation, you are part of my family. The Thorne family has existed for around four millennia, and ever since the discovery of Aether around three millennia ago, has been renowned for developing multiple breakthrough technologies that involve Aether. The breakthroughs pertain to the areas of military advancements, universal expansion, and finally, starting with you, true artificial intelligence,"
