I grumbled as I rolled over to push the snooze button on my phone's alarm. I looked at the time while I was and realized that it was my final warning alarm. I huffed angrily and pulled myself off the bed staggering to get my dresser, pulling out a pair of jeans and a tshirt. I pulled my binder on almost getting stuck even though I've done it almost a million times, before dressing the rest of the way. I grabbed my hoodie with all my pins, carefully putting it on to not knock off the pins.
Pulling on my shoes that look almost like platform boots I did the mental math to see if I could get a coffee before going to class, when I got a notification from my school email from the teacher saying his son got sick so he wouldn't have our class. "Nice, I can actually hang there while I work on my essay some more" I grabbed my backpack actually thinking today unlike the day before. I put in my computer, computer charger, and my binders for english and the next class health.
I locked the door behind me and started walking to the cafe. With my headphones in, and coffee on the mind, it didn't take long before I got to the cafe. I walked in the door while slipping off one of the backpack's straps. I sat at my usual table setting up my computer before getting up to go order. Joey was working the front this morning, he was a nice guy with curly blond hair peeking out from his hat. "Hey-a Leaf, and how are you doing this fine morning" he said with the pep of a morning person that loves rubbing it in people's faces that he was very awake while they weren't. "Ah you know, tired like always" "Want another mystery drink today?" "Sure, a hot one please" Joey had started a thing where I came in he would make a drink for me to try, the only thing I told him was if it was hot or cold. "Nice, good with chocolate today?" "Yep" "Fire, I'm going to bring it out to you today, this morning has been really slow" "Alright"
Yawning as I typed some more to my research essay. Joey startled me by setting down my drink by me before he went into a spiel of what it was. "I've noticed you usually lean into cappuccinos whenever you want something hot so I went with that as a start, also I needed to use up some chocolate so I did a mix of that and our limited time marshmallow flavored syrup, and as a topping I put mocha powder on a pile of whipped cream ,I'm calling it forgotten smore, if you like it I might be able to make it into specialty drink in the menu." I nodded my head as he explained, appreciating that I was his test subject for his drink experiments. After he was done I grabbed the drink examining it. "When I drink this do you want me to stir in the mocha and cream or not?" "Either or it's your drink" "Well I'll do both" I put the straw in my drink taking a sip of it, while Joey watched in anticipation. “This really does taste like a smore! Alright time to stir it” I was shocked how it tasted with the mocha mixed in. “This Is DElICious!” “You really like it, you’re not kidding right now?” “Yeah it’s amazing, It was an experience to taste it, thank you”
I continued working while keeping an eye on the time. Before I knew it I had to go, so I gathered up all my stuff, thanked Joey another time for the drink, left an extra tip on the table this time for the amazing drink, and went out walking to my health class. I hated health class because of all the preppy people in it, and the teacher talked fast so notes were hard to take even with very simplified notes. The only good thing about health is that it gets out so fast it was my shortest class. After 40 minutes of frantic note taking we were released. My eyes were strained from looking back and forth from the presentation and my notes, which gave me a headache. I fished around the small pocket of my backpack trying to find my ibuprofen bottle. Shaking a few out into my hand walking to the only water fountain in the entire building, which I always thought was weird. I hoped the headache would end soon so I wouldn’t have an even worse headache from going outside where the sun was at the angle that shined in your eyes, as I was walking to my apartment.
I don’t have a car, and I wouldn’t be able to get one if I was able to as I am a ~poor college student ™. My job barely funds my college and apartment payments each month, and I know I won’t have enough for next year so I’m going to have a break year to raise money. Since I’m broke I don’t have a lot of things that I bought in my apartment, its a lot of things my crow mind found pretty or my goblin mind didn’t want to get rid of even though I don’t have a purpose for. Example is my rock collection ever growing. There are a few weird things that I got gifted though.
As I set down my stuff, I checked my phone knowing I wouldn’t have any notification from anything besides from professors or games. I hated coming home sometimes, it reminded me about how lonely I was. I used to have friends, but we drifted apart. I would text them sometimes but I would usually get no reply or a small awkward conversation just to be polite. Most days it didn’t bother me but today was the 6th month mark since I last hung out with someone. I sat down on the pile of blankets in the living room, as they were a makeshift sitting area as I have no furniture except two tables, my bed, and a single chair that I moved constantly. One short table sat in the living room so I could put my laptop on it to watch shows and another tall table in the kitchen so I could stand and eat. My kitchen was the most stocked thing in the whole house as I loved baking. The chair was mainly in this room but sometimes in my bedroom to use as a nightstand. I couldn’t cook as good as I baked but I still tried. I often used my single serve K-cup coffee maker to heat up water so I could make a cup of tea.
My alarm went off suddenly, It was time for me to take my testosterone. As many times as I have done it before I was never ready to give myself the shot. I prepped my thigh with a cleaning cloth then got the dose ready. I took a breath in and let it out slowly as I put the needle in my leg. It was over until the next time I needed to take it. I don’t take a big dose as I only want a few changes from testosterone, like a deep voice, and my body to only look slightly more masculine than I used to. I don’t really get to pick and choose what I wanted but I didn't care as long as I kept on low doses I wouldn’t get too masculine. My favorite thing is that I confuse people, if you don’t get weird looks from old people are you even doing anything right?
After my shot I prepared myself a hot pocket as I got ready for work, eating it on the way. I put my trash in my pocket until I could find a trash can. I actually liked my job even though it didn’t pay much and got pretty hectic at times as any fast food restaurant. I walked in the door of the sandwich shop waving to my co-worker at the register heading to the back. I knew I was going to have a good day today as I’m working with my two of my three favorite co-workers. When we worked together we would always end up having the most random conversations. I put on my hat and apron before heading to the register to clock in, saying hey to Caleb and Nathen. Nathen was busy getting bread ready to put in the proofer. Today’s conversation leaned towards survival in various different situations. It was slow so we were ahead in everything, I ended up cleaning things multiple times just to have something to do when I wasn't talking.
Nathen also worked at the game store connected to Fantasy Potions. He was the one who convinced me to first go to it. Nathen was a few years older than me and when I first met him I distrusted him, but then I got a small crush on him after working more shifts with him because he was actually a very nice and funny person, and a complete d&d nerd. I knew I would never date him though. He’s the only person I’m not real sure about their sexuality even though we have talked about girls together and some past exes. He was one of the few that I thought if I ever moved away I would really miss working with as he was the one that started the random conversations, and treated me the same as everyone else.
Since it was slow the time crawled yet flew at the same time, my shift ended and I didn’t have to stay later like I usually do. I clocked out taking my hat off and fluffing my hair and then brushing it forward. I stuffed my hat and apron into my purse, and threw away the hot pocket trash that I had forgotten in my pocket. I walked out calling out “See ya, guys” It was dark outside as I walked. I only kept one earbud in as I took the backroads because the main roads don’t have any sidewalks. I reached my apartment without any incidents. I was tired after working so I stripped out of everything, put it in the wash and stepped into the shower. I slipped on some fluffy pants that were warm when I stepped out of the shower. I slumped into bed putting my phone on the charger and setting my alarms, before trying to fall asleep.
