Baseball field, 3:50pm
When we got to the field entrance , carter turned to me before we reached the rest of the baseball team.
“So, I’m just going to introduce you to the rest of them team.”
“Oh! Well is there anyone i should be worried about?” I say, kinda chuckling.
“Mm, no, they’re all really nice. Some of them might say something that might be insulting but they don’t mean it at all. They’re all really cool!”
I chuckle at his enthusiasm, then smile at the look on his face. He’s so happy. It might be because he’s happy to be playing baseball, or it might be because i decided to come, I don’t know but GOD he has the sweetest smile.
When we got to the field, he introduced me to the rest of the team and they were all really nice, like he said they’d be. Now I’m sitting on the stands watching them practice, and I’m honestly feeling a bit left out. I mean, i know I’m not on the team and i wont be until i can walk again, but i still wish i could play.
I’ve been sitting here for about 20 minutes, and I’ve now seen their pitcher mess up twice now. Being that i was pitcher in middle school, and a good one (at least that’s what carter and will said) I’m about to lose my mine.
After another mishap, i clench my jaw, trying to hold my shout, but I fail.
“carter!” I yell, getting his attention instantly.
He says something to one of his teammates that i can’t hear and jogs over to me with a concerned look on his face. Just to be clear, their coach left about 10 minutes ago, to go do something, I don’t know what but he would be greatly appreciated right about now.
“What’s wrong?” He says when he reaches me.
“Have you ever... tried to give the pitcher any tips...?” I say, trying to sound as nice as possible.
“Uhhh...” he says hesitantly.
“Oh my god...” i say, putting my hand on my forehead.
“What!? I didn’t wanna be mean!”
“What the- dude you taught me! Why can you teach him?”
“ i know that! But I’m better at teaching newbies rather than telling someone that they’re bad!”
“Ok well... maybe i can. I may not be as good a pitcher as you but i can still give him some pointers.”
“You sure? I mean, you came to watch not play coach. “
“Yeah! It’s totally fine. Gives me something to do.”
“Ok...” he waves over jack (the pitcher) and turns to me before leaving.
“Just yell if you need anything.”
I give a reassuring smile and he walks off leaving me and jack to talk.
