The perks of having an older sister: your get their old homework and assignments, we can go shopping, and getting her to buy me a drink. The cons of having an older sister: she’s not taking the same courses as me, shopping is getting her hand me downs, and the drink she buys is water.
Delancy grabbed her breakfast and lunch from the kitchen before quickly fleeing out the window. She waited by the fire escape waiting for the signal to run away.
“DELANCY ELISE O’HARA! WHERE DID YOU GO?”
“What’s wrong Rosemond? Oh my.”
“Where is she dad? Don’t cover for her. I know I’m your favourite.”
“No you’re not!” Delancy shouted from outside and ran down two floors to Asher’s. Without even a greeting, she locked all the windows and doors before she hid behind the counter to eat her breakfast.
“Fine, I’ll bite the bullet. What did you do?” Rei asked.
Delancy peered up from behind the counter to check that her sister wasn’t after her and said, “Drew on her face with some waterproof makeup. If she’s going to snore like a hippo, she might as well look like one.”
“Ah,” the four friends said in agreement before returning to their breakfast.
Delancy and Rosemond’s fights, if they could even be called that, were common. The worst that it had ever escalated too was when Rosemond accidentally broke Delancy’s lacrosse stick and the blonde refused to be in the same room as her for an entire month.
On the way to her class, Delancy was thinking about ways to move around her home without being caught by her sister. She could hide everything she needed in her room but she would still need to leave to go about her day. She was in such a deep trance that she didn’t hear the teacher call her name.
“Delancy. Delancy. Delancy are you still with us?”
“Yes sir,” Delancy said, zoning back.
“Then can you tell us the answer?”
“I could but wouldn’t that take away the learning opportunity for my fellow classmates?”
“Delancy.”
“The water represents a cleansing, a rebirth of sorts. We see that every time the main character strays off the righteous path and reverts to how he once was, trouble will occur. That issue will always result in him being touched by a body of water and he would realise what he did was wrong.”
“Very good. You may return to your daydream now.”
“Thank you.”
When her English teacher turned around, she mouthed a thank you to Carson who was at the front for giving her the answer. Delancy returned to her scheming until the class ended and it was free time.
“So what were you thinking about that was so important you almost got caught?” Carson, who went to her table, asked.
“Sister, drew on her face, need to avoid her. Thanks for the answer by the way but why are you being nice? Did you mess up my desk again?” She eyed Carson. The nature of their friendship was involved Delancy causing a mess and Carson would fix it.
“Can’t I just be nice?”
“No, not really.”
“Fine, we all felt pretty bad about you fainting on Monday so we’re trying to lessen your stress. But this is just until the festival is over so don’t used to it.”
“And there’s the Carson I’m used to. Well, you can lighten my stress by handling my paperwork then right?” Delancy gave him a cheeky smile before heading out of the classroom.
“Hey Del. Are you feeling better?”
“Yup, thank you.”
“Del, are you okay? I heard you fainted.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m strong.” She showed off her biceps.
“Del, don’t push yourself too much.”
“Thank you. Love your festival idea by the way. Just take my money already.”
Delancy thanked everyone who checked up on her on her way to Isaac’s classroom. All their worries made her feel better already and she was ready to tackle all the paperwork again.
“Hey Del, Isaac’s not here. He went to Diego’s class.”
“It’s okay. I’m not here to see him anyway.” Delancy scanned around the class and found who she was looking for in the corner of the class. “Hey Eric.”
Eric was too busy muttering to himself and writing his mutters down to notice him. Instead of trying again, she took the tape that was on his desk and placed it into the player and listened to it while she waited. The music was able to drown out the questions her classmates had about her associating herself with the creep.
When Eric finished, he noticed Delancy in front of him and tapped twice to get her attention. “What are you doing here?”
“You said I could listen while you’re still working on it and I don’t want to go do more paperwork. Caron’s being nice so I figured I should cash it in while I have the chance. Why aren’t you talking to anybody?”
“Why would I do that? I have time to compose now.”
“Oh, am I interrupting you? I can go.”
“No, it’s okay. You can stay,” Eric said, surprised at his own words.
Eric went to start the next part of the song and Delancy returned to listening to his current mix. The two were in their own world until Isaac ruined it by placing his best friend into a headlock.
“Ow!” Isaac shouted after Delancy elbowed him in the gut.
“Don’t put me in a headlock next time.”
Instead of answering, Isaac put Delancy into a quick headlock before running away. “Later loser.”
“Come back here you little brat! Bye Eric.” Delancy chased after Isaac in the halls and attacked him with a flying kick. Her headlock was cut short when the principal walked down the hall.
“Delancy, nice to see you feel better.”
“Thank you ma’am. Up and ready to make festival this week the best one yet.” She gave the principal two thumbs up and returned to her classroom after giving Isaac one last kick.
