Alec sat across from Felicity. He took her to a café not far from his house. The café wasn't full, but most of the eyes were on them. It didn't surprise him, though. Felicity had started a modeling career a few months back and was doing very well. As for him, many scouts had attempted to recruit him, but he was never interested. He was an athlete. Sports was all he ever wanted to do as a career.
Felicity was fiddling with her phone from the moment they had sat down. A girl came to get their order. Alec ordered a chamomile tea to try and calm his nerves while Felicity ordered one of those fancy drinks that Alec could barely remember the name of. Once the waitress left, Alec stared at Felicity, waiting for her to look at him but there she was. Typing away on her phone.
"Are you going to talk, or are you just going to be on your phone the whole time?" Alec said, annoyed. He felt like they were dating all over again. "Cause I'll just go home."
"No!" Felicity put her phone down and tried reaching for Alec's hand, but he pulled both of them away, crossing his arms over his chest. Felicity was taken aback slightly but tried covering it with a smile. "I want a talk."
"Then talk."
"Okay." Felicity leaned forward in an attempt to show the inside of her shirt. As if to appeal to his sexual urges. Unfortunately for her, those tactics didn't work on him. Not anymore anyway. "Look, I know I made a mistake. I realize that now. Alec, you're the best thing that has ever happened to me."
"So you say."
"No. I mean it. No one had treated me the way you did."
"That's why you did it?" Alec scoffed. "For two straight years." Felicity's eyes widened in surprise. "Yeah." Alec nodded. "I know. About all of them."
Felicity was speechless for a moment and slowly leaned back into her chair. He could see the change in her face.
"I'm sorry." Tears started to build in her eyes. Alec sighed. He hated that she had resorted to tear to win him over. "I shouldn't have done that."
"You think."
"But I was lonely."
"No." Alec shook his head. "Don't you dare try and pin this on me! I spent two years with you. We were attached at the hip. The only time I was away from you was when I was at home and practice, which isn't much. So don't try and turn this around and blame when this is all on you."
"Fine!" Felicity yelled, drawing even more attention to them. "I made a mistake, and I've realized my mistake. You have to forgive me."
"I don't have to do anything." The waitress came back with their drinks. "I'm sorry. Could I have that to go?"
"Sure."
The girl flinched when she saw the look Felicity gave her. She lowered her head and grabbed Alec's tea before leaving.
"Alec, it's been a week. Don't you think we should stop this break and go back to normal?"
"This isn't a break, Felicity." Alec dug in his pocket for money. "It's a breakup." The waitress returned with his tea, and he paid her immediately, also leaving a generous tip. "There is no going back."
Alec got up and headed for the door. He could feel everyone's eyes on him, but he couldn’t care less. He was done.
"Alec, I love you!"
He stopped at the door and turned around. Felicity was standing, tears in her eyes. They seemed to be streaming almost perfectly down her face. In the past, seeing her like that would have caused him to run to her. Now things were different. He no longer felt anything.
"Yeah, well, I never did."
Alec pushed the door opened, and he slipped through. The fresh air hit his face, and he felt good.
He arrived home and leaned against the door. His conversation with Felicity really exhausted him. He couldn't understand why she wasn't getting that he wanted nothing to do with her anymore. If their roles had been reversed, and he had done what she did to him. She wouldn't have forgiven him.
Alec dropped his bag at the entrance and started to head towards his room.
"Hey." Alec stopped and turned around to find his brother staring at him. Filipe was a shorter version of him. He had the same black hair with brown with the same tanned complexion. They resembled their mother. "Not even going to say hi."
"Filipe. What are you doing here?" Alec stepped off the stairs. "I thought you were at boarding school."
"You would have liked it if I stayed there."
"No. That's not what I meant." Alec sighed. "It's great seeing you. How long are you here for?"
"The week." Alec's little brother leaned against the wall. "I heard you and Felicity broke up."
"How did you find out?"
"Mom." Alec groaned. "She knows more than you think she does."
"Damn. I thought I was subtle."
"Pfff… you've never been subtle, but hey, whatever." Filipe pushed himself off the wall and walked over to his brother. "So she cheated on you?" Alec nodded. There was no point in hiding it. Everyone knew. "Man, Nick and I called that shit the minute you started dating her."
"What? You and Nick?"
"Yeah." Filipe nodded. "How is he anyway?"
"He's…" Alec sat down on the stairs. "He's still not talking to me. I tried to talk to him. To see if we could go back to being friends."
"Yeah… that's not gonna happen."
"What do you mean?"
"Nick doesn't see you as a friend anymore. He hasn't in a really long time."
"What do you mean?" Alec stared at his brother, confused.
"Nothing."
Filipe started to walk away.
"Hey!" Alec stood up. "Filipe!"
His little brother didn't listen to him and just walked off, leaving Alec even more confused.
Alec sighed and went to his bedroom. As he opened the door, his eyes went to the window. The lights were on, but the curtain was pulled, blocking his view.
"Now he doesn't even want to see me."
Alec sighed and went to sit down on his bed. He started at the window and lay down on the bed. He had hoped things would get better that he and Nick would go back to being friends. That Felicity would finally let him go. That everything would go exactly as he wanted. But it seemed that it was only a dream. One that wouldn't come true.
