~~Releasing a new story that I started writing ages ago. Hope you all enjoy it. Feel free to leave a comment below if you guys would like me to continue this story or just scrap it.~~
Emerson Faith was special. He looked at the world and remembered everything. Every detail from the number of cracks in the sidewalk to the cars that drive by his house everyday to who does what. He reads people. He can tell what job someone does or what their true emotion is no matter how good at lying they are. He can practically hack into anything if he tried to, but he never used his photographic memory for hacking. Emerson was just a young adult about to attend university. Despite life giving him such an amazing gift, it came with some unkind comments and actions.
Currently, Emerson Faith has just entered his new school. It was a private university, Wings Private University. The entire complex consisted of seven buildings, the tallest being the main building which stood at five stories high. Each building had the same red brick and white stone edged style. As Emerson made his way down the main stone brick path, he noticed the different cliche groups in various parts of the green grass compound, as well as students hanging around on the staircase leading into each building.
Emerson knew from the website that Wings Private University had over ten thousand students and had the highest rate of graduating geniuses. Being a genius himself, Emerson was hoping this school wouldn’t cause him any of the issues he has had in the past.
As he walked, his cat like dark brown eyes moved to everything. He saw a couple so heavily in love that the outside world didn’t exist anymore; or the twin siblings who were arguing over something, some card game Emerson figured as he spotted a set of strewn cards; or the queen bees of the high school, the cheerleaders, who walked with a purpose since they seemed to own the school; or the strange mixed group of five males who were hanging around the main staircase, two males sitting on the stone wall beside the stairs while the others stood around them. They intrigued Emerson the most since he could tell there was a nerd, a jock, two dancers, and an artist making up the group as he walked by.
Emerson couldn’t help but smirk as most people stared at him as he walked by. He figured it to be because of his choice of outfit. The private university had a uniform, but it didn’t quite state that the student couldn’t wear other articles of clothing with it.
Therefore, Emerson wore his black tennis shoes, the standard dark blue trousers that were slightly creased, but he wore his own black studded belt. He had the issued white button up shirt tucked in perfectly with the issued dark blue blazer that was lined with gold thread and had the school’s blue and gold crest above the right breast pocket. Along with the blazer, Emerson had slipped his black leather jacket over it, noting earlier that morning that it actually matches well with the outfit. Even though Emerson hated ties, he wore the blue tie with a golden swirl design loosely. His neck was adorned with a thin black choker necklace that stood out against his snow white skin. His mint green hair was messy, purposefully styled to look like he just woke up. His cat shaped eyes were coated in a faint turquoise colored eyeshadow and his face was coated with a little bit of skin colored moisturizer. He always prided himself with his fashion and hated that the school had a uniform regulation, but he got past it a little bit.
As he pushed the simple brown oak door, he was not quite surprised at the large amount of students in the main entrance foyer. He adjusted the leather strap of his simple square book bag as he silently made his way to the main office which he only knew where it was at since he couldn’t see above the amount of tall students around him. He wasn’t quite short, but Emerson stood at barely five feet and five inches.
After finding the office, Emerson opened the similar oak door and entered the office. He was quite shocked at what he saw. His eyes flitted to everything in the room.
The office had walls painted the color of coffee. The floor reminded Emerson of the color of the froth on top of a cappuccino. Emerson likes coffee and always compares things to coffee if he can.
There were three tall bookshelves that held books, binders, and folders that were all organized by width, color, and alphabetically. Emerson appreciated the organization and cleanliness of the office. Against one wall was a comfy looking espresso colored couch. Opposite the couch was one of the two desks.
Both desks were made from mahogany and were currently occupied by one middle aged woman and a young male who Emerson noticed was a student.
The woman’s desk was covered with papers, folders, and opened binders and books. She had four different energy drinks, which were all opened, and a gallon of water that was half full. Emerson noticed the stressed air around her as she furiously typed away at her computer, her eyes dark from how wide her pupils were. He did have to give her some points for how she was dressed. The young woman wore a loose maroon button up long sleeve that was tucked in haphazardly into a black pencil skirt. Her red flats were lying strewn about beside her chair. Her dark colored hair was thrown up into the messiest bun Emerson has ever seen. He noticed that her face was bare yet still radiantly beautiful.
On her desk was an old name plate that said “Mrs. Pearce” in gold.
At the other desk was a young male, probably nineteen years old. His desk was immaculate. Everything on his desk had a specific place and was clean from dust and germs. There was a simple blue mug filled halfway with the glorious brown liquid that Emerson loves so much.
The young male wore the standard issued uniform perfectly. Everything was pressed and tucked in nicely, even his shoes and buttons on his blazer were polished to a shining finish. Emerson noticed the simple golden torch pin that rested on the collar of the male’s blazer. He is the student body president, Emerson thought to himself. The male’s black hair was styled neatly. His eyes were the color of hot cocoa on a cold winter’s day. His whole aura made Emerson warm and comfortable, which was strange for the mint boy to feel.
All his observations happened in the span of five seconds of him entering the office. As his brain categorized all the small details, like the nicks and dents in the dark oak door leading to the principal’s office which stood out from the organized and clean front office, Emerson made his way to Mrs. Pearce’s desk.
A soft clearing of the throat stopped him. He glanced at the young male, the student body president. As he did this, his gaze glanced at the name plate that said “Sebastian Pearce” in polished gold writing.
“Are you new? I can help you over here. My mother is quite busy with the planning of the homecoming and requests from all the parents in the parents’ committee.” The president, Sebastian Pearce, spoke with a light air in his tone. It was as warm and loving as his gaze, those hot cocoa colored eyes.
Emerson never spoke. He did sometimes, but those were rare times when he had to tell someone off or prove someone wrong. The genius never spoke because he learned his words hurt people, since he didn’t have a filter and, even with his skill in reading people, he wasn’t great with his own emotions and that affected a lot of people he had met in his past.
So, all Emerson did was nod slightly as he adjusted his path and walked towards the older male.
“You must be Emerson Faith then. We don’t get many new people, so I’ve been waiting for your arrival. You were supposed to be here yesterday, but I called your guardian and they said that your flight had been delayed. But, welcome to Wings Private High. I’m Sebastian Pearce. I’m the student body president.” Sebastian Pearce took a small breath as he smiled warmly while typing away on his slim computer.
“Sorry for the lack of chairs. We had three leather ones that matched that couch over there, but my Vice President, Felix Hart, had to go and destroy them.” Despite the angry tone, Emerson could tell Sebastian Pearce wasn’t truly mad at this Felix Hart, only slightly annoyed but not surprised.
“You see,” Sebastian Pearce typed a bit more before the nearby printer started printing pages out. “Felix is known for destroying things, so I’m not that surprised. It’s just...” A soft sigh left Sebastian Pearce’s full lips that were the color of cotton candy.
“The chairs caught on fire. I don’t even know how Felix managed that.” With a shake of his head, Sebastian Pearce picked up the printed papers before writing on each of them.
Emerson watched him, as he does with all people. He noticed how the student body president wrote in cursive only. How he would bite his lips due to him being so into his concentration. Emerson was mesmerized by the elder, though not in the way you think.
There were times in Emerson’s life where he could tell that he would become friends with someone, not sure for how long that friendship would last. So, at this moment, he knew Sebastian Pearce would become one of his closest friends. He felt this strangely strong connection with the elder male. Emerson wondered if it was because Sebastian Pearce’s warm gaze and aura reminded him of his own mother. Let’s not think of her right now, Emerson, his thoughts were interrupted by his true self. His true self was the one to stop his thoughts from going too deep into the rabbit hole.
“Now,” Sebastian Pearce’s smooth voice pulled Emerson’s attention back to the present. He showed the newcomer the papers. “This is the map of the campus. It’s a pretty big campus, but I’ve labeled each building of where your classes will be in. It’s mostly on the eastern side of campus, which is good because that’s where my group of friends and I are at as well.
“These are your classes. Now, I’ve labeled each with the initials of my friends. You have someone in each of your classes, so if you want, you can meet them. They will most definitely like you. My group of friends are a strange bunch, but we are a family.
“Now this is a list of all your teachers. It has their name, school phone number - please only use it for professional business-, and their email addresses. I’ve also included my information and my friends as well as our home addresses. That’s in case you need help studying or if you ever want to hang out.
“But, that’s everything. Oh, and this is your locker and the combination. I’ve marked that on the map as well. Any questions?”
Emerson glanced at everything, committing it all to memory easily. He simply shook his head no.
“Um,” Sebastian Pearce stood up, grabbing his leather side bag which he slipped over his shoulder with ease. Emerson noticed that Sebastian Pearce was tall, at least six feet tall.
“Emerson, do you talk?” The elder had already made a plan in the event Emerson was a mute.
Emerson couldn’t help the slight smile that fell upon his face. He shook his head no before he spoke in his raspy voice, “I don’t... talk much.”
When Emerson did speak, his words were low and slow. He had to put thought into each word, each sentence. He analyzed how the sentence would play out, how it would sound to normal people. So, therefore he rarely spoke.
Sebastian Pearce’s face lit up with a bright smile as he nodded excitedly. “Well, come on, I’ll take you to your first class.”
The two males walked out of the office and into the hallway. With Sebastian Pearce leading, Emerson could observe his surroundings. He noticed how the students made a pathway for their student body president. How every student wore the issued uniform with a loose fitting, unlike Sebastian Pearce’s which fit his body shape perfectly. He identified the nerds, jocks, preps, geeks, and other cliche groups. He recognized some of the males that were from the strange group from the staircase earlier, but they were rushing past in the crowded hallways.
“Well, here we are. This is your World History 612 class. It’s the hardest history class, but I’m sure you’ll be fine. They wouldn’t have put you in the class if you couldn’t handle it.” Sebastian Pearce was playfully joking with him. Emerson wasn’t quite used to this friendly conversation.
“Now, my Vice President, Felix, is in this class. He is insanely smart and kind. If you have any questions, feel free to bother him. Just, try not to get into a debate with him. He is captain of the debate team, so he might win any and every debate.”
“Babe!” A deep voice entered Emerson’s ear. He turned and his gaze fell upon a male who was staring at a blonde cheerleader who was marching away in anger. Break up, Emerson deduced. With a little more observation, Emerson could tell that the male had been cheating and didn’t really like the cheerleader. He only liked her for her status since the male was a simple swimmer. Emerson knew that information from the male’s body shape and the Wings Swim Team bag definitely helped.
“Oh, guess he just got rejected.” Sebastian Pearce shrugged, not really caring for the relationships of students.
Emerson shook his head. “He cheated on her. She found out and broke up with him. He only liked her status and body, not her personality. It’s due to him-“ The mint boy stopped. You are speaking too much, think first before you just vomit words, Emerson’s mind interrupts his thoughts.
“Due to what?” Sebastian Pearce wasn’t harsh, he was curious.
“Um... due to... He is a swimmer.” Emerson figured that would be enough to clarify everything.
“Yeah, he is. His name is Zackary Hammond. He is the third or fourth best swimmer on the team and, oh.” It was like a light bulb went off. “He only gained a lot of popularity when he started dating that cheerleader, who is Lindsey Quinn. She is the head cheerleader of the second varsity team.”
Emerson nodded as his gaze shifted from the swimmer to a tall male with shiny purple hair. The male stood well over six feet tall. His uniform was neatly pressed and clean, but also seemed to be messy and loose on his frame. He was also one of the students that were by the stairwell this morning.
“Oh, Felix.” Sebastian Pearce waved the purple male over.
Felix Hart weaved his way through the crowd before stopping a foot away from the two males. “Who’s the new kid? Are you Emerson?”
Emerson nodded, still observing Felix Hart without trying to alert the other male of his intention.
“Welcome to Wings. I’m Felix Hart, vice president of the student body.”
Felix Hart was being friendly and kind to him.
The mint boy nodded before softly mumbling, “Nice to meet you, Felix Hart.”
