“Alright. It’s time to unlock your Forms.”
Amai and I watch as Soveliss paces a bit before us in the empty training room. He finally stops, then faces us. A small grin is on his face as his ears twitch a little.
“Now, you’re probably wondering what exactly your Form is. A Written Form comes from manifestations of your ideals, goals, and values. Who you truly are, and what you are meant to become, will resonate in your Form. It can change over time, for we as people are capable of change.”
Soveliss points to his feather earring. “See this? This is my Written Charm. Your Charm is always part of your Form, and you must have it on you in order to access it. Whether or not that Charm changes between dormant and active state is completely up to how your Form manifests. Mine, for example, does not change within my transition.”
I look at Soveliss, raising my hand a little.
“Yes Sakasu?”
I point to my choker. “So you’re saying that this piece of jewelry could change in our Written Form? And we have to keep it on us at all times in order to even access it?”
“Yes.” Soveliss nods. “That is correct. Now! If I could-”
The elven man is interrupted as we hear a loud bark down the hall.
“Naomi! Can we meet them yet?! Please?! Pretty please?!”
“Snowie, calm down. I’m sure they’re here somewhere.”
The door opens. I see a rather tall girl with dark skin and dark hair walk into the room. She wears a white sweater, black leggings, and black shoes. Her teal eyes meet with mine as she grins. As she waves to us, I notice a bracelet on her hand with an orange crescent-shaped jewel.
She’s Written.
At the same moment, a white fox with two tails runs into the room. She bounces around. The human girl giggles at the fox as she barks.
“Hey! New people! They’re here!”
“See, I told you we’d find them, Snowie.” She says. “Morning Soveliss!”
The elf smiles and nods at the new girl. “Good morning, ladies. Amai Winter, Sakasu Konton. Meet my friends, Naomi Wakka and Snowie the Familiar.”
The fox walks up to me. Both of her tails wag as she sniffs at me, her eyes watching my every move.
“Hi! I’m Snowie! Are you nice? Do you give belly rubs?!”
“Oh my gosh,” Amai gasps. She has her hands on her cheeks as she looks at the two-tailed fox. “She’s adorable!”
Naomi giggles at the fox. “Sorry about her, she’s excitable. Did we interrupt anything?”
Soveliss shakes his head. “Nope. I was about to transform into my Form so I could demonstrate for these two.” He looks down at Snowie. “She can give you belly rubs in a little bit, okay?”
“Awwww. Okay.” Snowie goes over to sit down near the wall.
Naomi looks at Soveliss. “Want some help demonstrating? I could exercise my Form a little bit.”
“Sure!” Soveliss smiles. “Come on over, Naomi.”
The girl walks over to stand next to Soveliss. They nod in silence to one another before looking at us. While Soveliss simply snaps his finger, Naomi gives a small giggle before a glow takes over both their bodies.
The glow around Soveliss seems to move around like wind. It slowly fades away to reveal his new outfit. The elven man wears a pale blue, long-sleeved shirt tucked into gray leggings. Around his neck is a dark blue scarf, and on his feet are black sandals. His hair remains in a ponytail. He smiles at us, then looks at Naomi.
The orange glow spirals around Naomi as she transforms. It fades away quickly to reveal her outfit. A white tank with orange gemstones surrounding the straps. I can now see tattoos on her right arm. The top is tucked into a pair of orange leggings with a short skirt attached. She has white boots and fishnet gloves.
“Whoa…” I breathe, my eyes not leaving Naomi.
“You both look amazing!” Amai exclaims.
The small fox rubs up against my leg. “They’re both really strong. I should know!! They’re my friends!”
Soveliss chuckles. He puts out his hand, and his wooden staff appears. “Another fact about Written Forms is that they all have a name. Mine, for example, is Serene Scholar. Naomi, would you like to tell them yours?”
Naomi smiles. “It’s Amber Resilience.” She answers, looking at me.
I can’t help but smile. They’re both so strong. Powerful. I want to be like that. I want to be like them.
I want to be who I am meant to be.
“Hey! ’Kasu! You good?”
I hear Amai speak, and she brings me out of my thoughts. I look over to her. Her eyes are wide as she stares at me. I tilt my head to the side a little.
“What? I’m fine.”
“Sakasu, you’re glowing.” Amai says.
“Yeah!” Snowie chirps. “You’re glowing gold. Is that normal for you?”
I glance down at my hands, and I let out a yelp. My best friend and this fox are right! My entire arm is glowing faintly with a gold color. My heart begins to race. I spin around and notice that the glow is following me.
“What?! What is this?!” I ask. I look up at Soveliss. “What do I do?! How is this happening?!”
Soveliss chuckles. “Sakasu. It’s okay. Something in you must have awoken your powers.”
Naomi walks over to me. She puts a hand out to me.
“Take my hand.” She says calmly. “It’s alright. Breathe and just let the glow do what it needs to do.”
I look at Naomi. Slowly, I put my hand out to her. As she holds my hand in hers, I feel my heart calming down. A smile is on my face. The glow doesn’t go away, but it’s not as frightening to me. It feels warm.
“Better?” Naomi asks.
“Yeah…” I look into her eyes. A smile forms on my lips. A calm feeling begins to take over my senses the longer that I look at her. “A lot better.”
As I say that, I suddenly lose my sight. All I see is a golden light, shining around me. I feel Naomi let go of my hand. The clarity goes away, but I don’t feel afraid of this glowing light that surrounds everything near me. I close my eyes for a moment, exhaling.
Is this bravery?
I open my eyes, and the glowing is gone as quickly as it came. I begin to look around. I see Soveliss, Naomi, and Amai all staring at me. A pair of paws touch my thigh. I look down to see the fox again.
“Whoa! Did you do that? Was that a magic trick?” Snowie asks. Her two tails wag in synchronization. “Are you Written like Naomi?”
“What?”
“Your appearance changed!” Amai says. “Sakasu, you look amazing!”
“I’m sorry, what?!”
Soveliss simply taps the end of his staff to the floor. A compartment in the wall opens at the command. My attention is brought to the mirror inside the closet.
“Why don’t you see for yourself?” Soveliss asks.
Slowly, I walk over to the mirror. I see a girl with the same honey-blonde hair and green eyes that I have. Her hair is half tied into a ponytail while the rest is loose. On her neck is the same choker I possess with the golden flower charm embedded into the band. She wears a white and gold shirt with a low cut neckline. There’s a red jacket with a bit of a tail over this white top with golden shoulder pads. The top is tucked into a pair of sleek, black shorts and accessorized with black and gold belt. On her legs are a pair of fishnet leggings, and tall, black boots that are nearly up to her knees.
“Holy crap.”
I twist around a bit to see the outfit on myself outside of the mirror. A large smile makes its way onto my face.
“I… I transformed?!”
Soveliss grins. “Indeed you did.” He answers. “That’s a pretty nice Written Form there if you ask me.”
“You look incredible.” Naomi says as she walks up behind me.
I spin around. I feel my cheeks heat up as I smile at Naomi. “Heh… thank you!” I tell her.
“Well, what are you gonna call yourself?”
I look to Soveliss as he says that. I raise an eyebrow. “What do you mean?” I ask.
“All Written Forms have a name, remember? What are you going to be called? You’ve transformed because you manifested your ideals and goals into it. Now you just need a name.”
I look at Amai. She gives me a thumbs up as I smile. I then look at Naomi, who just watches in silence. Snowie walks up and sits beside her, her tails curling around her paws. Soveliss holds his staff as they all patiently wait.
“Golden Blaze.” I look back in the mirror. “That’s what I’ll be called.”
