The trip was as expected, long and exhausting.
She squinted at the billboard ahead of her, trying to read the ridiculously small handwriting next a zoomed in image of a burger.
Hmm.. Probably food. She assumed.
This motivated Emily to continue enduring the pain of walking for endless hours, knowing that there must be an exit from the main road nearby.
Eventually, she found a way out of the long path of hell, sighing in relief as Emily limped her way towards the fast food chain behind the bushes.
The girl tried not to look back at the people staring at her as they walked past, worried about anyone who was going to attack her on the spot, even though she knew that had never really happened before.
As she entered the restaurant, the first thing she saw were the screens displaying the different menu options. The place was relatively big for an eatery out in the open.
Luckily, most of the meals were priced under seven dollars so she wouldn't have to worry about not having enough money to purchase more than just a small serving of chips.
There probably won't be another place to eat nearby, since it took about three hours just to get me here Emily pondered.
She decided to get the biggest and unhealthiest meal box on the list, as it was almost guaranteed to keep her full the longest and was also much cheaper than the healthier option.
Immediately after she received her order, Emily headed outside, deciding to continue her walk as she nibbled on a packet of fried chicken.
Eventually, the sun was setting and Emily knew there was a resting place on the other side but this was a open road where cars went at one hundred and ten kilometers an hour, so she'd have to be careful.
At that given moment, no cars had passed by, leaving a completely empty road.
Now or never she reminded herself.
The girl sped forward, sprinting across the road in absolute fear of being crushed by a vehicle.
Her head pounded in her chest, as Emily suddenly felt breathless and tired. However, she knew she had to keep going.
And Emily made it.
Exhausted, she limped her way over to the bench nearby and laid down on the cold hard surface to get some shuteye for the night before continuing.
The next day, the girl was up and going once again, not wanting to lose anymore time.
It had been a ridiculously long time since Emily had eaten or drank, meaning that she was extremely hungry and thirsty.
Emily groaned as she grabbed her bag and walked out the exit, in a desperate search to find something to eat.
................................................................................................................................................
As it turns out, two nights had passed before Emily could see the large buildings that towered over her, as well as the flashy neon night lights of the city she had dreamed of visiting.
And it was now a reality.
But before she could go and explore the place she adored, the girl would need a nap.
So Emily found an empty area on the street, by a convenience store and laid down on her own bag to sleep on.
All this was too good to be true.
