When he woke up, there was only one class left before the day ended. Alec sat in the bed, and everything came crashing back down to him. He wanted to go back to sleep. Forget things all over again, but he knew to do that he would remember everything when he woke up again. He got up and made Lukas' bed before leaving. The air felt refreshing against his skin, and he started to run. He didn’t have a particular destination. He just wanted to clear his head. To empty it of all the unpleasantness.
By the time he finally realized where he was going, he stood in front of his house. It was still too early for him to be there, but he had nowhere else to go.
“Alec?” Lucy stared at him as he entered the house. “What are you doing home?”
“I wasn’t feeling good.”
Lucy went to him and placed her hand over his forehead.
“You’re temperature seems fine.”
“Yeah. It’s not a physical thing, mom.”
He didn’t want to pretend like he was sick. It would just worry her.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No.” He shook his head. His lips curled slightly in an attempt to smile. “It’ll pass. Don’t worry.”
“Okay.” Lucy was still worried. “I”m here if you need me.”
Alec nodded before he went up the stairs. He could tell his mother was still watching him until he disappeared from view. He couldn’t blame her for worrying. He wasn't exactly himself.
He entered his bedroom and didn’t even bother opening the lights. Alec dropped his bag as he headed blindly to his bed. He didn’t feel like doing anything. He let himself drop on the mattress and turned onto his back to gaze at the ceiling.
He looked back at everything that had happened since he started high school and wondered where he went wrong. Clearly, one of his bad decisions was dating Felicity. He regretted it more than anything. But when he thought about his other problem, nothing explained what was going on with Nick.
Alec turned on his side and closed his eyes. Staring into nothing wasn’t going to help him, and he didn’t even have enough energy to do anything else. He just wanted to lay there and sleep until the next day.
A slight vibration in his pocket stopped him from dozing off. He pulled out his phone to see Kyle’s name flashing on the screen. He wasn’t in the mood to talk, but he knew that Kyle would show up unannounced if he ignored him.
“Hey.”
“Hey, Alec. How are you feeling? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Kyle.”
“I know you’re just saying that.”
Of course, he was saying that. He didn’t want to talk about his problems. Even if Kyle already knew about one of them.
“What’s up?”
“There’s a party tonight. You should come.”
“No thanks.” Alec sat up. “Don’t really want to be around a bunch of people who think I’m a cheater.”
“Oh, come on. It’ll help you get your mind off stuff.”
“I doubt that.”
“Please!” Alec sighed. Kyle had gone into begging mode. When he did that, there was no stopping him until Alec gave in. “I promise you will have fun.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“Great. I’ll see you there.”
Before Alec could say anything, Kyle hung up. It happened every time. Alec sighed and dropped his phone on the bed.
After thinking about it for a while, Alec decided to go to the party. Kyle had texted him the address after he called as if he knew that Alec would show up.
He stood in front of the house. The party had already started. Loud music was blaring, and he could see people dancing.
He sighed and headed inside. The door was unlocked and opened without any effort. The moment he stepped in, he noticed people were staring at him and whispering. He knew what it was about. It was all about Felicity and how she was the victim.
He had never done anything bad to anyone. He was always nice and friendly with everyone or at least tried to be. But none of that mattered now. He was labeled a villain.
Everywhere he looked, people were staring at him, and he suddenly felt claustrophobic. He turned to leave when he heard a familiar voice call out to him.
"Alec!" Kyle ran towards him. “I’m so glad you came. What happened to you at school? I was looking for you everywhere. Where did you go?"
"I went to Lukas'."
"I didn't know you guys were friends." Kyle furrowed his brow.
"Well, we are."
Alec hated it when people found it strange that he was friends with Lukas. Unlike some people, he enjoyed Lukas' company.
"Okay. Well, I got some good news.” Kyle pulled him to a quieter corner. He leaned closer so that Alec could hear him. “You don't have to worry about the Felicity thing.”
“What are you talking about?”
“A bunch of the guys outted her, and now people are on the fence about her."
Alec looked at him. He was processing every word that Kyle was saying, but he wasn't sure he understood it correctly. The music was deafening.
"Wait. What do you mean some guys outted her?"
"You know the guys really respect you. I mean, you’re our team captain. So when they found out she lied, they told the truth. Well, the ones that slept with her did. Not all of them obviously, but a few of them did."
Alec could do nothing but stare as Kyle told him the rest of what had happened. From what he understood, at first, people didn't believe those that spoke up. But they had proof.
After the revelation of Felicity's infidelity, the people around her started to question her as a person. In a matter of minutes, her possey had dwindled to only a few loyal girls.
The whole thing felt unreal.
Felicity came into view with a drink in her hand, and she looked up, locking eyes with Alec. He stared at her a moment before she started to cry and ran away. Alec was speechless. He thought that things would be going downhill for him, but it seemed that things would work out.
"Yo, Alec." A guy from his soccer team approached him. "Glad you could make it."
"Yeah."
His teammate smiled and left. Alec was confused. From what he remembered, people loved Felicity. She was the school idol. He was just captain of the soccer team. Alec never thought that people would actually take his side against her.
Kyle proudly smiled and wrapped his arm around Alec's shoulders as they went to get drinks. There was something about the way he acted that just made Alec think that this was his doing. That Kyle fixed it.
