She walks along the street, which sat upon an edge of a cliff, carved into the side of the mountain. Besides occasionally dodging one of the few cars that were on there, the road was silent. The cars she dodged all had something in common: they were all heading in the same direction; AWAY from her home. Well, what used to be her home. It was destroyed by those horrific monsters.
A red car with a man and a young boy inside passed her. It stopped at the fork in the road, then turned right. A few silent moments pass, and as she reaches the fork in the road, she sees the red car again, coming back from the way it came. It swerved in a sort of zigzag route, until it crashed into the side of the road; into the rocky wall. The boy she had seen immediately comes out of the car, and heads to the driver’s side of the car, opens the door, and pulls out the man she’d seen. The man was unconscious and injured from the crash.
The boy attempts to wake the man, but is unsuccessful. She watches this event take place, unable to speak nor move. Then, the boy notices her. He called to her, and waved at her to come over. Her body reacted on its own. She started to head towards the boy, even though she knew the dangers of stopping her journey.
Don’t stop, she told herself, They’ll be here soon. What will you do when they come? Them. Those terrible beasts who destroyed her hometown. Those dreadful creatures that killed her sister. Those awful monsters which she can only run from for so long. They would find her eventually. They’ll find everyone eventually. Someday, they’ll be the only ones that remain on this planet. No Entity, Human, nor Fantasia can survive this apocalypse. Some may live longer than others, but, at some point, you will have to submit to death.
A roar makes her and the boy jump. Rumbling in the ground tells them something large is coming. They’re here. She realizes what the noise is, and grabs the boys arm. The boy is reluctant to go, not wanting to leave his companion, but he tags along. Sure, they’ll die at some point, but it is only a living being’s nature to try to survive.
They hurriedly skip along the road, going left at the fork. But, a few hundred feet ahead of them on the road, is a pitch black blob, moving quickly towards them. It was one of the monsters. Some have a more definite shape than others, while some only have a blob sort of shape to define them, like the one that she and the boy see. They turn around, only to see more shadows coming towards them. She panics. She didn’t think she would be joining her sister so soon, though the thought didn’t seem too bad. The boy next to her, on the other hand, was having a complete mental breakdown. He had collapsed onto the floor, after freeing himself from her grip, and was currently screaming through his tears, “I can’t die yet!”.
Only a moment later after he repeated what he had said for the seventh time, they were submerged in darkness. The beasts tore at the flesh of their new pray, starting with devouring the boy. She could hears his shrill screams as they tore him apart, even when she covered her ears. A minute later, they started to poke at her, tearing through her clothes and skin. Blood began to seep from her wounds, which made the monsters even more excited to feast on her. She watched her blood surround herself, before shutting her eyes tight, unable to witness anymore.
The monsters decided it was time to dig in. They ripped open her flesh, and she began to scream and cry. It felt like it went on for days. She wondered how long it would take until she died. She whimpered. The beasts were still clawing at her, but they had grown bored with her. No matter how much they mangled her, she still lived, but now she had stopped screaming, and now only whimpered occasionally. It was like she couldn’t feel the pain anymore. The beasts decided that they should throw her into the ocean, wait for her to drown, then fish her back out and eat her. Besides, they could wait a bit. They still had that man from the car to chew on.
She felt her body rise off the ground, but she didn’t dare to open her eyes. Then, she felt herself sink. She was falling. She didn’t know where, until she felt herself land hard somewhere wet. The ocean. Her limp body slowly sank below the surface. She couldn’t breath, but she had to. In a habitual way, she attempted to gasp for breath, but only took in a mouthful of water. Her lungs were burning, but she was now far from the surface. Her final thoughts approaching, she thought that drowning wasn’t the worst way to die. Being eaten alive by some terrifying monsters was definitely worse. She prayed for her final wish, being the hope that she would be with her sister again. If only it wasn’t for this apocalypse, then she would be sitting in her living room, playing board games or such with her sister right now. If it wasn’t for the apocalypse, then her sister would still be alive. If it wasn’t for the apocalypse, then, maybe, she would still be able to live a normal, happy life. You may be able to change your fate, but not someone else’s fate.
She thought back to all the happy times she had had with her family and friends. Finally, her mind went blank.
