Okarg slunk along the damp wall, pressing against it and keeping low as the fighting raged on in the centre.
A severed Laichanan head bounce off the stone floor and roll away, leaving a trail of blood. He didn’t know who it was, and neither did he care.
His target was within his grasp and she didn’t even see him coming.
Someone was calling out to her, but the blood pumping in his ears made it hard to listen.
Something hard hit him across the back and clattered to the floor, he hardly felt it, so intent was he on the kill. She went down easily under his weight.
Her fear, he took a deep breath of it to fuel his lungs to the full. Raw fear that all his victims showed, and it filled him with strength and purpose.
Okarg looked down at her ashen face, savouring the terror in her wide grey eyes. He lowered his slavering jaws, stretched to their widest to sink into her warm yielding throat.
His thick neck muscles flexed and tightened, pumping his jaws to clamp down hard.
