“I have no objection.” The Diabane loomed over them. “But I cannot speak for the others at the outpost.”
“Thank you for your concern, large one.” She told him brusquely. “I think I can take care of myself though.”
“It’s settled then.” Arden stood up. “Let us be on our way... to the Inn and then further east.”
“I wouldn’t recommend we go through the Dark Forest so late at night.” Dainzel offered grimly. “There may be more Laichanan or worse lurking around.”
“I agree.” Kadrek exhaled heavily. “We can reach your village from here quicker and then make our way to the Inn along the stream.”
“Go back to the village?” Arden sounded aghast. “But it’s an absolute ruin... it pains me to...”
“Arden.” Yuma stepped up to the tall boy. “Maedra and I would like see our home... one more time before we go east.”
“I... but the bakery is gone... just like the rest of the village.” Arden slumped his shoulders.
“That’s okay, Arden.” Yuma’s sister Maedra spoke up as she wiped away her tears. “Besides I’m in no mood to walk all the way east through this horrid forest. Let’s go to the village... please.”
