“Very well...” Arden sighed deeply and turned to face Dainzel. “Lead on, my lady... you would know the quickest way there.”
“Indeed I do.” Dainzel gave the boy a smile, relieved that everyone was in agreement with her suggestion.
She had heard of these sporadic raids on Humaine and Sashaine villages and settlements for some time now, but had never been near one in time to investigate, until now.
Something about these raids seemed unnatural and sinister, as if some grand evil plan was being unfolded.
It couldn’t just be random tribal feuds among the Humaine and Sashaine.
Not especially if the rumours she had been hearing were true, ever since she had left the Alvaine Citadel of Kurasaem, north of her home, Jadvaraem, several years ago.
“The village is gone.” She heard Yuma exclaim as they stepped out of the Dark Forest into the clearing overlooking the Bubbling Stream.
Across the stream, a faint trail of smoke still hung in the air and the ruins of the village was clearly visible.
Anger bristled in her eyes and she clenched her jaw. There was no justification for this kind of brutality.
Whatever did this would have to be stopped. And even if the Alvaine did not concern themselves with the plight of the other races, she could never turn a blind eye to this.
