No one had ever seen an Alvaine before. At least no one Maedra had known and this divine creature among them now filled her with a sense of wonder.
Her best friend, Darla, had often spoken about the Diabane that her father did business with and Maedra was prepared what to expect when Kadrek made his sudden appearance.
But this Dainzel was another matter entirely. She was something out of legend; something unreal and often dreamt of.
Maybe all this was a bizarre dream she was having, she told herself again. But the deep sorrow she felt at losing Scruffy was all too real.
The little Laichanan pup had saved her life, risking his own. How would she ever get to know if Scruffy was still alive and where he could be? And by the gods, did she feel tired.
Every joint in her body was numb with fatigue and she longed so much to just curl up and sleep, maybe forever.
But the ruins of the village were no place to even rest for a bit, leave alone to find a safe place to sleep.
Arden had them all marching off toward the Inn to reunite with Rubia and Hari, and the six children she had kept safe for those two dreadful days in the Dark Forest.
She shook her head to clear her mind of that horrifying time.
