“How is Terek faring?” Maedra looked up and asked her younger sister, Yuma, walking beside her.
“Dainzel says he’s quite all right, just a little bruised up.” Yuma gave her the usual grin she always sported.
Nothing could ever bring her baby sister down, and over the events of the last few days, Maedra was actually thankful for it.
“He’s a strong boy.” Maedra nodded. “...working in the Armoury all day.”
“Yes, he is – and even bigger than Arden, maybe less handsome.” Yuma laughed merrily, and for once Maedra felt good about her sister’s unabashed humour.
“Yes, they could almost be brothers.” She nodded back.
“And Sora is well again.” Yuma informed her. “Have you met her yet?”
“Actually, no. Not yet.”
“She’s up there in front with Arden and Kadrek. Come on, I’ll get you introduced to her.”
“That can wait,” Maedra sighed; she was too tired to be interested in meeting this Sora. “We have a long walk ahead.”
“You’re still worried about that beastling, aren’t you?”
“Well, I do miss him.” She nodded glumly.
“It’s gone and for the better. Good riddance.” Yuma responded with a sneer.
“Don’t say that, Yuma.” Anger flashed across her pale grey eyes. “Scruffy saved my life.”
“It didn’t know any better.” Her sister went on callously. “I bet it was just hungry and thought the other Laichanan was its prey.”
