The class Rachel had to attend was the Agricultural Methods class. She had already forgotten about the practical exam and since many of the plants were quick germinating the results of the practical would be ready today. So, under normal circumstances, Rachel should have been nervous about the results, but instead, she was distracted and when the teacher presented her team, herself, Nathan, and Tina with the best score. She was surprisingly underwhelmed by the results. While Nathan and Tina were passing each other high fives and congratulations, Rachel was sadly letting this moment slip past her, but at least it wasn’t adding on to her growing mass of anxiety. At the very least she promised herself to properly celebrate her group’s success later, maybe by taking Nathan and Tina out to eat, if she will still be allowed to leave the academy. But a promise is a promise. It will be something to look forward to, something that would help her get through this ordeal. All the students in the class were allowed to leave early after their teacher had finished explaining what methods the practical was testing the students on. Rachel knew what this meant, she was going to be able to catch George and James at the eatery during their lunch. She hoped that there would be a chance for her to break them off from the crowd and get them alone.
In a quickly made decision, Rachel asked Nathan and Tina, “do either of you want to go to the eatery with me? We could people watch until our regular lunchtime arrives.”
“Oh sure, I’m free,” Tina replied.
“I’m free as well, plus with the results of the tournament we could see some interesting interactions between people while we people watch!” Nathan exclaimed.
Rachel was a little worried about Nathan noticing something being up with her, but it didn’t matter. Most likely by the end of tomorrow, everyone was going to know she was a fairy. What mattered was being honest with George and James.
A huge uproar could be heard just outside of the eatery drawing in the trio. There was a crowd that had formed in the center of the seating area, it was much larger and boisterous than the crowd the arm wrestling drew.
“This couldn’t be just because of the results of the tournament? What is going on in the center of that crowd!?” Nathan blurted out.
“There’s only one way to find out. Let’s wriggle our way in!” Tina suggested.
“Okay, let’s do this!” Rachel agreed.
The trio pushed and shoved until they could at least see what was at the center. When they were close enough, they caught a glimpse of George, James, and some of the other Military Arts students eating their food. Upon realizing how there wasn’t anything worth seeing, Nathan, Tina, and Rachel removed themselves from the crowd. Other people who also realized that there wasn’t anything worth seeing also decided to leave the crowd, but the crowd didn’t die down. It wasn’t until James started shouting about not being able to eat while being watched that the inner portion of the crowd left. Rachel realized that this was the perfect time to let know George and James that she needed to talk to them.
When there was space for her to walk up to the table George and James were sitting at, she spoke to them, “Hi George, James. I don’t want to bother you while you are eating, but if you could meet me at the back of the eatery when you are done, there is something that I’d like to talk to you about. It will only take a minute.”
George and James exchanged glances. They had never seen Rachel seem so worried about something.
“Sure, we will be there in a second,” George replied.
Rachel turned to walk away with Nathan and Tina, heading towards the back corner of the eatery. George and James had arrived faster than Rachel had expected. But when they did, she stood up to move the conversation away from Nathan and Tina’s ears. While still standing she told them, “George, James. I have to tell you something about me that, now that I think about it, you might not believe it. But it is the reason for your father, the duke being here at the academy.”
“You know my father is here? I haven’t been informed of this,” George said with wide eyes.
James decided to just listen and nod in acknowledgment.
“Yes, he has come to see the fairy that officiated the tournament on Friday,” Rachel said quietly but with a practical manner while also studying George and James’ faces.
George knew right away what Rachel was implying, but he needed to be sure.
“So, what you are saying is that you are a fairy?” George said sternly but softly.
“Yes, it would make sense seeing as I am from Tetrades. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner,” Rachel admitted.
George paused, he seemed to be fighting with himself about this information.
“Actually, the reason I was able to come to terms with being known as a fairy is because of you, George. You convinced me it was safe to learn about being a fairy here in Gerais and I wanted you and James to hear about it from me rather than from an official announcement. Letting things play out like that didn’t sit well with me, especially since I hold you two in high regard,” Rachel explained.
“I understand and believe you. I am glad you could confide in us. This means that we will be seeing more of each other as James and I are going to have to protect you from now on. So, don’t hesitate to ask us for any help!” George said with a look of uncertainty on his face.
It was clear to Rachel that she was going to have to give him time to adjust to the news.
“I promise to keep you informed from now on. So, the reason you don’t already know that I am the fairy from Friday is because I asked the duke to not tell you or discuss it until after I told you first. He should still be in the academy, so if you want to talk to him more about this you can. Sorry if I took up too much of your time. I’m sure you have to go back to class, so I’ll see you two later!” Rachel said with relief washing over her.
George and James left the eatery uncertain about what was going to become of a friendship with a fairy. James who didn’t care at all if Rachel was a fairy or not, was more concerned with how George was taking all this. He knew that George didn’t care about the reasonable secret Rachel had kept from him, instead, since George has feelings for her this all must be a bit of a shock for him. But James knew that with more information and some time George could figure his way out through this predicament as well. Once out of the eatery George and James decided to find Reginald before returning to the field for sparring. George wanted to meet with his father as soon as possible.
