She huffed and puffed her way over to the park. The sun was scorching for a winter day. She needed to drop some DVDs but her date was already waiting to pick her up.
"Oh my god; he's there already."
She hurried as fast she could go on her short legs. She didn't bring the proper shoes and her feet were going to pay for it.
Once she arrived, she hid behind a tree, and looked to see if he was there. She scanned her surroundings when she saw a familiar figure. She thought he'd be in the car. Nope, he was outside on his phone waiting for her.
"Shitttt."
A parent heard her from an earshot, and gave her the "look". She looked apologetically and resumed prepping before heading over there. However, it was a loss because he saw her and he began walking over. She finally finished so she approached him.
"Good morning," he said with a smile, "How's everything?"
"Good!" She said shyly as she followed him. However, he slowed his pace to keep up with her. Always considerate.
She was so nervous. She didn't expect anything new but oh boy she was in for another adventure. He'd occasionally glance at her every now and then. She felt a different energy but didn't comment.
Once inside the car, she'd cool down from the heat. She was quiet during the ride. Sometimes he'd asked questions and she'd answer them the best she could. There were moments when she'd appreciated the silence.
They arrived at the café. She got out and walked alongside him. They approached the cafe and she looked at the menu of all the items. He told her about their burritos but she wasn't hungry so she got a green macha tea. He ordered a breakfast ham burrito for himself.
Once he did so, he waited for her to order. He was planning to pay for her meal. She didn't expect it but she was glad. After they were done ordering, they went outside to wait. She was a bit nervous. It was her second time out with a boy and her parents did not know this. All they knew she was going out again to the park alone. However, this did not deter her from seeing him. She was happy to see him. She was mostly quiet and spoke when spoken to. Once he had finished his meal, he wanted to walk again. She was happy to go walking with him. Maybe it will calm her nerves.
He looked at her with a funny grin and said, "So, your mom did not like your haircut?"
"She said I looked like a cartoon character." She sighed and shook her head.
He watched her and smirked, "Dora the Explorer?"
"Oh my god, not you too!" She groaned and put her head in her hands.
"Vamanos!" He teased her.
However, she was not having it, "If you keep teasing, I will leave."
He shut up and smirked. He of course did not want her to leave early. Their date just started.
"Good," she said and smiled as she walked. They passed by a school and the little kids were playing outside. After they passed the school, they went on the sidewalk.
"Are you ticklish?" He asked as he gently poked her side. She looked at him with doe like eyes and collected her thoughts.
"Yes?" She poked him back and said, "Stop." He did not listen to her though, and she did not care because he was being really nice to her.
He would go behind her and then poke her again. She laughed and tried to move away.
"I feel so hot! Ugh." She tried to fan herself.
He smiled and went behind her, "I am a tree. There."
She rolled her eyes and smiled. Once they arrived at a bench, she sat down on one end and him on the other end. At first, they were far, but slowly they inched closer and then he put his arm around her.
She closed her eyes and leaned against him. This is what she always wanted to do with someone she cared for. She did not think this was actually happening to her. It was a surreal feeling. She was so happy and content. They were playing music and she sometimes opened her eyes to see him staring at her with this curiosity in his eyes.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"I find you very fascinating." He said and continued staring. She would lean her head against his shoulder. Sometimes he would do so as well. One time, as she was playing a song, and then he took her phone out of her hands. He took her hands and held them. He caressed them gently with so much care that she did not know what to say. There were long periods of silence but those periods of silence were filled with caring and gentleness.
"Sometimes... I feel like I don't deserve this." She whispered as she leaned against him. He continued holding her close. The lawnmower interrupted the moment, and she reached for something.
"You said you had questions?" He asked.
"No, not yet," She took her card and her small present. She gave those items to him with shyness, "Here."
He took the items and looked at them with fondness. He smiled, and read the card. He got to the part where she asked for a hug. Then he gave her a hug, and held her in his arms. She got more than she asked for and she was not complaining. She was grateful for the caring touches he displayed.
She didn't like her drink so she gave it to him to drink. They were acting like a couple already with their actions, but she did not care. She was going to enjoy the moment.
Sometimes planes would pass and she'd point them out. They decided to move to a different spot, but this didn't deter from holding her hands. He held her hand, and twirled around. It was so sweet. She enjoyed it very much, and the staring did not stop. They were smiling ridiculously a lot at each other. If a person passed by, they would assume they were a couple already.
They sat at the bleachers.
She sat down and smiled. He followed her and they sat together. She was happy. Despite trying to keep her mom distracted via texts, she was happy. The quietness did have an effect on them. She sat close to him, and he put his arm around her. He kept staring at her, and this time she looked at him back. He touched her face gently, and she leaned forward to kiss him. They kissed ever so gently. She kissed his cheek as well.
"I never kissed someone before." She whispered and leaned back against him.
"I wanted it to be from someone who cared about you," he said and held her close.
"You care about me?"
"Yes, I do."
She smiled. This was so perfect. She glanced at her watch and asked, "Are you tutoring today?"
"Hm? Yes, in the afternoon."
"Oh, okay. It's 1 pm."
"At 1:30 pm, we leave."
"Okay," she smiled and closed her eyes.
She was going to forever remember this date. It was so sweet and caring. She could not believe she found someone who had a similar love language as her. She was so happy she waited until then to go on a date.
Unfortunately, the date came to end. They held hands for the last times, and they walked back to his car. He continued to be sweet. Sometimes he would tease her again but she let it slide. He called her Ariel because of her hair, but she did not mind.
They got in his car, and they had a small jam session together before he had dropped her off. She was so happy and at peace. This was worth the trouble she would have later.
Once he dropped her off, she reluctantly got her things to leave.
"Thank you! I really liked this. See ya!"
"See ya!"
He watched her for a moment. She watched him too. They both were kind of sad it had ended and she had wished she had given a hug or kiss on the cheek before leaving, but it was done. All she could do was wave.
She walked away and saw his car disappear in the daily traffic. She called her mother to let her know where she was. She later called her best friend as well.
There was a permanent smile on her lips and she did not regret it.
"Thank you, D."
