I woke up knowing something was wrong. I couldn’t remember anything after I walked out on Kyle yesterday. I didn’t know where I was or what had happened.
I tried to rub the last bits of sleep from my eyes and heard chains clang.
I was in a large cell with my hands chained to the floor.
That’s when I realized that I had been taken. Taken from Kyle, from my life.
I knew this was my fault. I knew I shouldn’t have left. I should have just talked this out with him, but no, I let my feelings and my ego get in the way of reason.
I felt my tears run tracks down my face. I didn’t know what to do, this was one of the few times in my life I had felt so lost.
I heard a door of some sort open and the dank room was suddenly filled with an artificial light. In walked a man with a smaller more feminine shape walking behind him with her head down.
Raven black hair fell forward because of the angle she was hunched too. But I knew that hair anywhere, I knew it cause it was identical to my own.
I had only ever seen one person with hair like that. The only other person was my sister.
That’s when it hit me. Maya was working with the people who had kidnapped me and chained me up.
This newfound knowledge hit me like a sack of bricks. I had trusted her, trusted a stranger. Look where it had gotten me.
The man that had walked in spoke, “Hello Ash. It’s nice to finally meet you.”
I jerked up at my name. “Don’t call me that. I don’t know you, don’t call me by my name.”
He smiled and it was so sickly sweet I knew this man was insane. Maya looked at me with pity and shame but she still looked happy.
I snapped at her, “You betrayed me. I trusted you and you betrayed me. All for what?”
He look of pity and shame left her face and she shone with happiness and excitement.
I wondered if they were both insane when she bounded forward.
She put her hands and the bars of my cell and grinned at me.
“I didn’t betray you. I knew this was my purpose the entire time.”
“You did betray me. You betrayed your family!”
She looked angry now. “No. I just listened to my family, I just did what I was told.”
“What? You said the only family you had beside me was our mother and she died”
She was sneering at me now, “Our mother was weak. She died because she was weak. So I listened to the stronger side of the family”
I was completely confused. What stronger side?
The man smiled, “That is enough Maya. You listened to me better than your mother ever had. If she hadn’t run away I would have been able to raise you and your brother better than she ever could.”
I looked up at the man and realized he looked just like us.
I pointed at him and stuttered “You- I- Are- Are you my father?”
He smiled and nodded.
