'We both look like wolves but are Earth's wolves like them or are they like Earth's wolves?' "I never," I clear my throat, "I mean, I was too scared to ask before but how much are you like the wolves on Earth?" I scratch behind my ear, watching my Master's expression closely, "It's what you look like." He narrows his eyes, deep in thought and I realize I just asked a tough question.
"It depends." He starts carefully, "What are the wolves on Earth like?" I blank and lean back, sipping the cocoa I start with the most obvious.
"Well they're not as intelligent as humans. But for animals they're pretty smart. They work in packs to take down bigger prey. Like you they have alphas and omegas."
"I see." My master murmurs. "The alpha wolves seek out omegas as their mates to make the pack bigger and stronger so that they can conquer the earth!" He finishes triumphantly.
"Um...no they...they're just animals." I cough. "Did you say mate?" I put the cup of cocoa down to steady myself, 'I thought I was a pet?! What about the collar and the jealousy, did he really think of me as a mate this whole time?' Wait, what did that make all the other omegas who had mates, a harem? Did they have multiple mates?' I feel a sharp pain and grab my head. Missing whatever it was my Master was saying.
I exclaim a sharp cry in pain, my senses are going out of control, my heart is beating harder and harder. I'm taking in too much, every scent, sound, image is overloading my newly heightened senses. My own hyperventilating is added to the cacophony of noises then suddenly it's all stifled as I'm pinned against the cold, hard floor. My Master's chest rising and falling slowly above me. He shifts his hold on my neck. I feel his teeth grazing my scruff and surprisingly it's not threatening. He pulls on my scruff gently and I feel my body involuntarily going limp.
'That's strange just like a kitten.' I think. Master sighs, "That's better, you calmed down immediately." He rolls off of me and wraps an arm around me pulling me closer, into his arms and soft chest. I bury my face in it.
"I, I don't know what happened." I gasp.
"Thank goodness you changed so quickly, now at least I know what's going on with you." Master says a little over me.
"What's going on with me?" I ask quickly.
"You haven't gotten used to your senses yet, when your heartbeat picked up in panic your natural defense system kicked in and heightened your senses, obviously you were overwhelmed." I take a deep breath and on an impulse straddle my Master's chest. Getting a pleasing, shocked expression from him.
I look down at him, "Why did you biting my scruff calm me down?" I ask while innocently adjusting my position.
He looks flustered for a second then calmly answers, "it's part of your instincts."
"I mean, I get that but why?" he sighs and lifts his hand.
I flinch hard remembering how rough he was with me only a day ago. Seeing that pains him.
I chuckle nervously, "Sorry."
He hugs me, "No...I'm sorry." I blink at him in surprise and don't resist as he grabs my scruff. I feel myself relax. "There are specific nerves in your neck, when pulled on, " he pulls a little tighter and I feel my eyes half close, "will make you relax, it's also a reaction to the will of your alpha. Or mate." He smiles awkwardly and a jolt goes through me.
"Wait so you're telling me that even at the school, you've always intended on making me your mate?"
"Absolutely not." He makes a face, "I've never had the intention of taking a mate, they're too distracting and too much work." I feel my body droop. He pats me reassuringly, "I had my position and future to think of but you wanted me so, so badly..." He teases with a smug smile, "You've made me reconsider."
I lift my eyes, my heart swells and my stomach turns. 'I want to love him, I want to be his mate but, so much is holding me back.' I lay down on his chest. "There's so much I don't know." I start. But he holds up his hand to silence me, ears perking, then sighs.
"See, this is what I was talking about, I'm needed on the bridge." Rolling off of him quickly I watch as he heads towards the door. 'Say something!' I think to myself.
"It's okay!" I called from where I sit. "I'll be waiting." I smile and the expression of surprise and hope warms my heart then he leaves and I feel cold and alone.
It took me a long time to realize the door wasn't locked. Boredom was eating me alive so, I spell out a note in alien "rice" on the counter. 'Went for a walk.' Taking a deep breath, I poke my head out the door, looking around quickly to make sure that no one is around. 'Should I really do this? Last time I was in public I got hurt and I told him I'd be waiting at home for him.' But boredom gets the better of me and I think, 'I won't go too far or be too long it should be fine.' I take my first step outside. At first I was scared, thinking I might be attacked on sight or get in trouble, but nobody was out or around, and slowly I gain courage.
I get onto all fours and run, letting out a little laugh of exhilaration. The feeling of power and speed was amazing. Soon all the pods are whizzing by me and I feel my body settle into a more natural rhythm. The wind in my fur, the straight stretch of pods before me, and nothing but space is all so great I can't contain my happiness. 'Now that I think about it track and field was one of my dreams.' Then suddenly someone is exiting their house. I skip to a stop, tripping and falling to slide on the smooth metal right up to the startled aliens feet.
It's a he. 'Yet another male, does this species even have females?' I think mind still racing before getting pulled back to the current situation when he growls. I cringe and twist so that the mark on my thigh shows.
"Oh, you're a convert." He wrinkles his nose. "You look like a cub that escaped the nursery. Where is your mate?" I gasp trying to catch my breath.
"He was called to the bridge, I'm killing time waiting for him to come back." The alien's reaction was almost funny,
"B, bridge?! So your master is..." His expression changes suddenly, shaking his head, looking at me suspiciously and somewhat greedily he sneers, "Trying to run away are you?"
I flatten my ears. "I told him I was going for a walk." The alien flinches. 'Technically I didn't "tell" him but this alien is up to no good.' I think to myself.
"Well get along then!" The alien snaps, "And don't continue running down the street use the backyards, like all the other pups." I tuck my tail under and slink quietly between two pods. Quickly moving along just in case alien tried something, I become more aware of my surroundings.
"Woah!" I breathe. An amazing stretch of green meets my eyes. Glancing back to make sure I'm not being followed I think about the alien's reaction, 'Masters rank must be pretty high.' I feel a sense of pride. 'Which also means I'm in more danger.' Just to make sure I lose the alien I plunge, twisty and turning into the grassy maze of backyards. Some of them are suspended in the air and I wonder what it's like to stand on them. Once I've gotten far enough away to feel safe I slow down and look around. 'Home should be up that way.' I think to myself turning in the direction of it and start walking, still on the fours.
An hour passes and I'm running up one way and down another but no matter what I do I can't find the street again. Panting from panic unsurprisingly my head starts pounding. My senses start heightening. I need to find somewhere to hide and calm down. A little picket fence draws me closer. I peek over it and see a secluded corner with a shed right there to block me from view. Jumping over the fence I curl up behind the shed.
My heart beat slows and I'm able to focus again. 'Even if I'm lost, Master will find me.' I tell myself. 'Eventually.' taking deep breaths I peek from behind the shed. There's a garden, obviously someone has been working in it with the ground freshly churned and pots with plants laying scattered about. Looking up, I feel a sense of calm so I sit with my back against the shed and stare up at the pods and gardens. Once in awhile I see somebody flying between the very top pods. The shed door slams open, making me jump and tense to run but I realize that whoever it was hadn't seen me yet.
'I should probably run,' my human side thinks. 'Ask for help.' My wolf side demands. I grab my head as my senses go haywire again. 'How about I check them out first?' I suggest to myself. I wait until I can't handle it anymore and glance around the corner. I see the one thing I never thought I'd see again. Stepping out from behind the shed I gawk at the perfect replica of Drac. He's crouched in the dirt planting some alien fruit or flower. His long, black bangs slide out from behind his ears and he tucks them back, leaving a smear of dirt on the gray flesh. I almost lose my balance tripping on a pot and he whips his head around, standing up, flower pot hugged to his chest.
"Drac?" I croak.
His eyes narrow, "Who are you?"
