The three of us decide on changing the scenery and heading out into the garden. It’s nice being outside again, almost feels as if I’m back home. The hedges are beautifully sculpted and there are these blue flowers everywhere that shine like some sort of gems, I’ve never seen anything like it. Everywhere you turn you see a butterfly more brilliant that the last, I wouldn’t mind living in a garden like this, at least there are no wild beasts as far as I can see. After around a 5-minute walk we decide to settle down at a nearby gazebo and a maid, that looks different from the one earlier, brings us some tea and snacks.
“Right then, let’s get down to business.” Priest Galen takes a sip of his tea and shifts to face me.
“My name is Galen, I am a High Priest originally from the Holy land, however I’ve been working in this kingdom for 25 years or so.” He pauses and smiles softly at me. Am I supposed to be amazed or something? He’s just a Priest from some stupid land that is as far as I am concerned, only Holy in name.
“I guess that’s my que. The names Conall, Captain of the Shadow wolves. Under the order of Duke Wiles, we oversee the protection of the surrounding area including exterminating beasts in the South forest. That forest is where we found you. Well, I wouldn’t say found, it’s more like you were delivered to us.” Conall seems lost in thought for a moment like he’s recalling how exactly they found me.
He says I was delivered to him. If that’s the case then who had found me in the first place, I’m assuming that person had to have a considerable amount of power to defend me from those darn wolves. The forest… I wonder what happened to Kelly. I mean she’s definitely strong enough to care for herself, but she hates living my side.
“When you found me did you happen to see a small sort of creature, she had black scales and grey eyes. Oh! But they look blue like the moon during the night.” I look between the two of them expectantly. The two exchange a silent nod as if they’ve decided whether to tell me some information or not. Does that mean they know where she is? If they aren’t careful, she might eat them or something.
“Your little friend is safe, she’s currently inside the castle having a meal, if you want, we can join her after our little discussion.” I know Galen is trying not to make me worry however she my best friend, if something happened to her… I- I would have to destroy the whole world to appease my anger.
“Now would you tell us about yourself?” They stare at me expectantly. Fine, I guess a deal is a deal.
“My name is Caden, I’ve lived in the south forest for as long as I can remember. I mean I’ve gotta be at least 8 or so years old according to the people in the nearby village. And every day I fight the mana beasts within the forest for food to survive, and because of that I’m level 17.” I stop since at this point, they just look utterly shocked, for what reason, I’m not sure.
The two men stood shocked because its unthinkable that a child of his age would have reached level 17. Normally adults without the gift of magic would barely be able to make it to level 20 in their entire life, and even with magic most kids his age would be maybe level 5 or so.
Before they could respond to what I’ve said we hear a loud commotion coming from the other side of the garden.
“Priest let us put this on hold and investigate what’s going on over there” Conall stands and we follow him in the direction of the sounds. We head towards the east side of the garden where I see 3 children, a mana beast, and heap of knights trying to contain the beast who seems to be going berserk. What looks to be the youngest of the three children runs over to Conall.
“Captain, tell the guards to stand down! Niko is my pet, he didn’t me any harm.” He pleaded with Conall but Conall doesn’t seem to be the least bit convinced.
Captain Conall orders the other knights to stand down as he readies his sword. The beast seems to be a Class D Crocotta, a half dog half wolf hybrid, they are stronger in numbers. The beast turns its attention to the captain and charges forward. Conall manages to defend a against the attack but his armor has sustained some damage.
Conall pours mana into his blade and prepares to attack. Just before the captain launches forward the smallest of the children had leaped in front of him. In a desperate attempt to not hurt the child the captain turns his body, and the impact of his blade tears a hole into the ground as wide as a carriage and as long as your average house. Conall was truly a walking war machine.
Everyone was so shocked by the sudden turn of events they seem to have forgotten about the enraged beast over there. That’s fine, I haven’t really had anything to eat today after all. After casting my body enhancement spell, I ready myself in front of the beast. Time to show this dog who’s the real king of the forest. Winds of hell (Tornado)!
