Valley Falls Jazz Bookstore Corner was the new, trendy soporific jazz bookstore for the classy, old erudites in Cambridge. Three months after her divorce, Tolani had carefully breezed through her alimony money on her lifestyle improvement and without a steady well-paying full-time job, her part-time jobs to and fro wouldn't sail her through life. She needed a game plan.
Tolani had thought Valley Falls Bookstore Corner would need an equally classy CV but in reality, they preferred educated to classy and Tolani being a mathematics undergraduate was employed without any fuss. Getting a boring, old rich man to take an interest in her was surprisingly easy. Out of all her candidates, Charlie Charlton, a successful 69 year old investor shined bright.
Dealing with an ego-boost and a brilliant mind that hadn't gone to sleep, Tolani with her mathematician brain often times shared financial jokes with Charlie Charlton; she a reserved but fun brilliant body ensnared the interest of the wealthy investor.
Less than a month later, Charlie Charlton was already dating her. It was at this point Rose, bless her insecure soul was dating an outrageously narcissistic insecure Micheal Faudet whom she pointedly exclaimed to be her first love.
Michael who made it his life-long mission anytime they were alone together to point out how Tolani was his only desire, how he longed for her when the nights were long and the days hot. Who, in addition, shamelessly admitted he had a raving fetish for black women.
Tolani ignored him, her parents and siblings who were strongly against her marrying Charlie Charlton. Without the support of her family, Tolani went ahead with the fairytale extravagant wedding she couldn't have had with Lie To Me's financial situation; even though during the marital vows when Tolani glazed her eyes over the heads of the eminent crowd, her heart constricted slightly when the unfamiliar faces stared back.
Fortunately, Tolani forgot about missing her unsupportive family during their generic five star hotel suite honeymoon overlooking the Eiffel Tower. The honeymoon became memorable when Charlie Charlton forced her to sign a post-nup
It quickly became a loveless marriage, Charlie Charlton buying her affections and attention; not that she minded at all but she felt like a castaway when her husband insisted she either spend her time indoors, shopping or travelling around the world all alone in their private jet.
No, not all alone. She had the world's best punctilious staff. According to Charlie Charlton, he wouldn't want her to embarrass him in his social circles. Having her own friends was okay as long as she said nothing embarrassing. Tolani later learnt it was better not saying anything at all and even easier having none of those friends.
To her family, Rose and Michael, Tolani could never want for anything. Charlie Charlton who could'n't keep his hands off her suddenly found something about her body to complain about. No wonder he remained selfish, childish and childless.
Tolani had an idea.
