The soon to be alpha, Mason, was angry and conflicted. Usually, he had his resting bitch face mode on, but today the anger broke the meter. Some of it was because of his father, or should he say, step-father, the current alpha of The Midnight Blood Pack, Alpha Nicholas.
He could never understand what his mother saw in that man that she dared to leave her mate, his dad, and play house with the said alpha.
He hated that step-father of his for ruining the bond between his mother and dad, he disliked his mother for leaving his dad alone and heartbroken, driven to the point of insanity, and collectively hated all the people due to his anti-socialism (which he chose to not dwell upon for the meantime). His personality and his wolf were in agreement with this decision.
Speaking of his dad, Alpha Jordan, he was a very capable man. A leader capable enough that other people could rely on and look up to, unlike his stepfather .
But circumstances made his dad out to be a prisoner in this pack house, which Mason had grew up to call his home, with chains and bindings as adornment to show his stepfather's victory over his dad to woo his mother.
Mason was quite young when he learned the truth about his origins, about his kin and the treatment they got, just because of the adultery his mother was committing with his stepfather.
It was alright if you had just abandoned dad and me, but running away and assisting Nicholas to attack our pack and capture our Alpha, my dad, your mate...I can't forgive you for that.
Mason loved his mother, he really did. But that tiny shard of grudge that he harbored against his mother and which slowly had been piercing his soft heart since he was young, he couldn't really ignore it.
He would often sneak out at night to meet up with his dad, and ensure his comfortable living in this hell house, which held the guise of a pack house, as best as he could.
He would hear his dad talk about his achievements when he was young, how he fell in love at first sight for his mate and what plans he had for them in the future.
He would listen to them intently and cry silently in his heart. This kind of happiness...if only Alpha Nicholas was not present, he would've lived this kind of future.
He never got caught in all the years he tried to meet with his dad, and he didn't intend to as well in the future.
Today was supposed to be the day when his stepfather would neglect everything in front of him, even his pack let alone his mother, and lock himself up in his room, drinking his 'troubles' away. He would then lash around violently, before sitting around in a daze.
This behaviour of his stepfather was an annual occurrence, something everyone had long gotten accustomed to.
Initially he, as a child, was curious and would try to find the reasons behind such actions. But after repeatedly failing in this and being reprimanded by his mother, he lost all interest...or atleast he pretended to.
Although his stepfather was smart looking and quite steady for an alpha, he always had a distant loneliness and sadness in those hazel eyes of his, as if he had lost all meaning in this world. Really too vulnerable. That irked him.
Another problem was his mate. While many wolves craved for the happiness of a mate, our Mason was the exception.
It wasn't that he was against the idea of a male mate, oh no he wasn't so narrow minded, rather it was the circumstances that he had grown up in, that led to his complete incredulity in the widely accepted concept of soulmates and the love between them.
If his mother could sever the bond between his dad and herself and take up her supposed mate, then he wasn't really sure that he could 'practice' the so called 'love'. Neither was he sure that his own 'soulmate' would stay with his antisocial negative self.
He was happy living a single life. Carefree and unrestrained.
Sometimes he would feel pity for his wolf and his mate, for both had the misfortune of associating with him.
But until his beliefs about love weren't molded, he wouldn't be able to accept his mate, or love them...more specifically him.
Oh, did I forget to mention — His mate was a human.
