A knock forced Mason to sit up from the mess he called his bed and make his way to the door. He had a premonition about who the uninvited guest was and he didn't want to face her right now, but he also knew that his mother had come to give him some answers and scolding.
He opened his door and signalled his mother to take a seat. He took his position by his desk, leaning against it as he crossed his arms over his chest and maintained a neutral expression.
He watched as his mother took deep breaths, seemingly to calm herself before she began, "Honey, the way you behave with the Alpha is not right. You have to give him respect. If his own son disrespects him, can we still expect the pack members to show respect?"
Mason scoffed, rolling his eyes. "I have three things I would like to say: One, he isn't my father, I won't respect him. Two, tell me, why do you still call him Alpha, even after betraying dad for him? And three, why did you betray dad for him? What about the mate bond and all the crap about mates!?"
May was crying silently as Mason stated his words. She didn't know what that hateful man had planted in her son's mind, for him to actually feel this way about Alpha Nicholas. She knew about the rendezvous that he planned with his dad but didn't speak against it, because Mason had the right to visit his dad, however he was.
"Mason, I've never restrained you from doing anything. Part of it may be due to the guilt that I was keeping you away from your dad and part that I dragged you in my and your dad's matters."
"You knew I went to see him?" After a pause he added, "And you also know why he is being kept in a dungeon!?" May nodded slowly. She took another deep breath, before continuing, "You have to listen to the full story and then state your opinions. I know some things would be different from different perspectives, but I can testify that the things I say are correct. Would you like to hear my side of the story?"
Mason couldn't help but furrow his brows. Could this be a little less dramatic? But he didn't voice this out as he replied with a simple nod.
"When we were young, your dad was like a delinquent. He sported the whole bad boy vibe. He used to get into his share of troubles and fights, but nothing too major. He used to turn heads around. Used to get many confessions. But your dad and I were great mates. We used to be so happy during our initial years. In the beginning, he used to show his weakness and strength, share his sorrows and happiness, show off in front of me, and would do everything one does for their mate."
"We completed the mating ceremony, moved into a secluded house and he was given the Alpha position. He was too happy and stressed about it. At first, he would burn that stress with our daily talks and cuddling. Occasionally we would have sex, life was still great. But slowly we drifted apart. He only came to me to seek pleasure. He offended many people. His stress buster was just the pleasure he gained from me or from hurting others verbally. But maybe something was missing? Maybe he wasn't still satisfied with our life? Maybe I was not perfect and good enough for him? He started abusing me."
"The first time he did it was when I had gone to seek him, to tell him the good news of me carrying his pride. At that time, maybe he was too busy, maybe he was too stressed and couldn't control himself, but he accidentally struck my face. Afterwards, he apologised repeatedly and I still accepted it. No wolf can be angry with their mate for long."
"I thought this was the end, a one time thing. He was happy during the pregnancy period. He would satisfy my hormonal urges without any complains. We had gone back to the time we were carefree, enjoying our youth. Not that we were old haha."
