Signs of early depression was evident in Kholwa Snowdrop's life but it was either mistaken as bad moods or the sadness of not having gotten whatever she wanted—the misidentified emotion was a cowardly mistake on her part.
As children's life were, Kholwa Snowdrop's childhood was as unmemorable as full moons at the end of every month. Born in Quebec City, Canada, to an arrogant retired 69 year old mail carrier father and a financial analyst mother greedy for love and acceptance that made her consume her animosity towards her husband with flashy, lavish living.
Her mother whenever drunk always reverted back to how Kholwa had been conceived at a romantic Olive Garden date, a time when Megan Snowdrop could convince herself she was happy.
Deceiving herself continued the next year with the presence of Kholwa's younger brother, Wildflower Snowdrop. Kholwa at a young age pitied her mother's marriage to a man who made it crystal clear he was in the marriage for the money.
Megan with a perfect beneficial financial analyst job and the daughter of pharmaceutical upper-middle class American parents, she evidently could take care of herself. But for some reason Kholwa couldn't understand was why she stayed in a marriage she clearly hated.
Inspite of this familiarity with a broken marriage, Kholwa became obsessed with the idea of someone liking her forever; her marriage to b filled with laughter, joy, family vacations without it prematurely ending because of a thunderous fight. And love. The utmost necessity.
Children who didn't have to hide in their spring-green rooms buried under their pink flora blankets on their four poster beds from her parents screaming at each other, a child heavily disturbed her only comfort was Barbie Facial, her best friend.
Perhaps Kholwa would understand when she was older than four. She couldn't wait for that day to arrive.
Blankly staring at her father's coffin being lowered into the ground, the only thing racing through a five year old Kholwa's mind was the skiiing trip she'd be going to next week with Barbie as promised by her mother.
Glancing upwards, Kholwa's mint green eyes naturally glimpsed how blessed her mother must feel by explosively crying. Misunderstood for grief, Kholwa almost wished she could cry tears of relief at her father's death but she was rather dull.
At least, Kholwa peeped at her brother's confused face, Wildflower would never understand the disaster their father put them through. That, she was thankful for.
Crooked teeth visible by grinning mouth, Kholwa held hands with Barbie each screaming their lungs out as they fell down the snowy mountain slope together, the chill of the evening combated against her warm fur clothes, winter shoes and the hot tea in her stomach.
Supervised by Barbie Facial's parents, Kholwa's happiness kept skyrocketing anytime she remembered her mother's full smiling face few monthhs after her father's asthmatic passing.

Six year old and annoyed, the girls didn't want to believe they'd be separated at a crucial time like this just because Mr and Mrs. Facial couldn't afford taking their daughter to Kholwa's primary school—a Nina Jones private school.
Notwithstanding, with fake confidence did Kholwa Snowdrop approach Sarah Bell, the most popular girl in her class with the intention of introducing Sarah to Barbie so the three of them could be friends and Barbie wouldn't feel as much lonely whenever Kholwa attended her Taekwondo and ballet classes.
"Replacing me with one of your fancy-pants classmate so soon? I thought we were friends, Kholwa."
Shocked by Barbie's scorn of Sarah, Kholwa felt humiliated she'd ever imagined the three of them blossoming into best friends. Sarah Bell, not to be made foolish by the uncongenial welcome gave Kholwa an ultimatum.
However, Kholwa pretended to have broken up with Barbie at school and likewise with Sarah at home whenever she and Barbie infrequently hung out. The deceit blew up in her freckled face when she and her mother invited Sarah and Barbie respectively to their family's vacation to Reykjavik, Iceland.
Oddly, Kholwa instantly realised Barbie's insignificance to Sarah in terms of class and grace. But, Kholwa was fed up of Sarah bullying whatever she liked whenever she liked it. It was better standing with Barbie than behind Sarah anyways.
Kholwa Snowdrop dumped Sarah Bell a year after their 'friendship'.
