The cool draft of the mountain air surrounded Asukai. He sat atop a stone slab, meditating in the quietness of nature. Asukai opened his eyes. He put his hands down to his side and stood up. Asukai watched as the sun rose over the hills, shades of the sky reflecting off his face.
Fast paced footsteps approaced Asukai from behind. He turned to face an out of breath Kagami, arm against the oak tree trying to catch his breath. "I-" He took another breath, "I'm here!" Asukai laughed, smiling at the young boy.
"So you really came?" Kagami gave an exausted grin to him in response.
"I thought about it yesterday, and I talked with my dad about it too.
"He wanted you to go didn't he?"
"Yeah. Figured he might finally get some more sleep if I wasn't there being such a burden..." Kagami wiped the sweat off his forehead, putting his back up against the tree. Asukai was silent.
Well, what do we do now?" Kagami asked, gesturing his hand for asukai to do something. Asukai cleared his throat,
"Well if you're here, I take it you've accepted what I want you to do." Kagami darted his eyes away from Asukai, quietly mubling,
"Yeah... I understand."
"Then show me it." Asukai said. Kagami moved his eyes back up towards Asukai, Asukai looking him back in the eyes. Kagami took a shaky breath as he held his palm out. A few sparks flew out, until a small flame appeared in his hand.
"It's not really a lot, I haven't used this in a few years really." The small flame continued to stay ablaze, Asukai staring right into it.
"Focus on it, imagine the flame taking a bigger shape, and being larger. If you think it you can do it." Kagami closed his eyes. 'Grow... Grow... Grow!' The thoughts echoed through his head. The small torch flame quickly began to grow into a much larger flame, almost engulfing his palm.
"Open your eyes." Asukai said to Kagami. He slowly opened his eyes, seeing the blaze of fire in his hand.
"AH!-" The shock of seeing the flame had him fall back on the ground. He closed his hand into a fist, he couldn't feel the fire at all. "Asukai, what the hell even is this power that we have?"
Asukai sat back down onto the stone slab, "A moxi. Moxis are the elements that Xoreus gifted the human split among us all. The human had the ability of fire, air, water, earth, and lightning, and sometimes people are born with one of those moxis. Such as you were born with a fire moxi and I was born with a wind moxi." Asukai held a finger up, a small ball of wind rotating over his fingertip.
"And how come these flames don't burn me?" Kagami grunted as he began to stand back up.
"Moxi users are immune to the downsides of their abilities, like your flames not burning you, or an electricity user not being shocked by his lightning."
"And what if someone is born without a moxi?" Kagami asked.
"They adapt." A voice said from behind Kagami. He turned around to face a new face. Someone around the same age as Kagami, with dirty blonde hair, and gray eyes. He pulled out from his back a scythe, beginning to spin it. "Non-moxi users can create their own techniques, sometimes even more powerful then a moxi. For example, my ability, Velocity." The scythe began to suddenly accelerate, it becoming more of a blur. He stopped the scythe pointed towards the ground. The grass in his area being sliced in half. "You're Kagami I assume? Asukai told me about you."
Kagamis face was in awe, he reached out to shake Ikomas hand, "Yes, It's nice to meet you!"
"Kagami, this is Ikoma. My assistant." Ikoma waved over to Asukai. "Sorry for bringing you here on such short notice, but this was an urgent situation."
"No worries, what's the situation?" Asukai brought Ikoma up to speed on the oni, briefing him about their return, and the threat they may pose if they let them go.
"So you're plan is to hunt these oni down, kill the leader, and stop them from killing us all?" Ikoma asked with a finger on his chin.
"Precisely." Asukai responded. Kagami looked over at him with a confused look.
"Wait, so why did you tell me to come with you?" Kagami asked. Asukai and Ikoma turned their heads over to Kagami, Asukai smiling in response.
"Because I believe that you have the ability to save us all." Asukai put his hands on Kagamis shoulders. "We need as many people as we can get, and with this moxi you have, you could be a great ally to us. We could really use your help."
Kagami looked into Asukais eyes. Even though his eyes were a dim gray, Kagami could tell that deep inside them was a blazing fire.
