Deepvine pushed his way through the undergrowth that covers the camp entrance, and Littlestream and the kits followed behind him. A light brown she-cat was the first to look up in curiosity. She had two kits behind her, peeking at the unfamiliar kittypets. Eventually the whole clan looked over, but no cat dared to walk over. That is, except for Softstar, who poked her nose out of the leader’s den and padded over. The sun shone on her sleek silver pelt as she sat down in front of the two warriors.
“I see you found the kittypets.” she said, glancing at the six kits.
“Unfortunately. And Littlestream over here didn’t want to return them to their twoleg home.” grumbled Deepvine, expecting Softstar to take his side.
Softstar tilted her head at Littlestream, who kept her gaze steady. “And why is this?”
“The kits started their own clan. They had a deputy, what I believe is a medicine cat, and warriors. Now I will admit they did have two leaders, but look at them. These aren’t normal kittypets.” Littlestream told her, pointing at the six with her paw.
Softstar looked at the kits and thought for a moment, silent and focused.
“Remember the first time we took in a kittypet who wandered into the forest..?” Littlestream urged.
Softstar hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Very well. They may stay if you find a way to get those ridiculous things around their necks off. They’ll scare all the prey away.” she narrowed her eyes, glaring at the kits.
“Softstar you must be kidding.” Deepvine spat, shocked. “They’re just weak little kittypets. They’ll hog all the prey! And you know how lazy those soft cats are!”
“The kits will stay with Ivyquill until they’re old enough to be apprentices,” Softstar said, ignoring him. “they can’t be more than four moons old.” she stood up and turned her head to Deepvine. “If they do poorly then they can return to their housefolk, but let’s give them a chance.”
Deepvine held his tongue as he watched his leader stalk off. He then turned to the kits with narrowed eyes.
Littlestream purred at the kits. “This means you’ll be an official part of our clan. As soon as Softstar gives you your clan names, I’ll show you around camp!”
Oreo nodded, excited, and the kits talked happily amongst themselves about their new names. They had already forgotten about Fangclan and their warrior names. Now they were focused on being the best Thunderclan members they could be.
Littlestream took the kits to the nursery shortly after and introduced them to Ivyquill, who happily took them in. Her own two kits didn’t mind the new additions, and quickly the kits began to tussle and play while they waited for Softstar to call them to the Highrock.
It wasn’t too long before she did so. She looked impatient and angry when she had the six kits come up and sit next to her.
“Thunderclan warriors, here before you, you see new members of our clan. Never before have we taken in so many cats at the same time, so let’s hope they prove less soft than they look. But by the name of Starclan, I shall give these kits their true names. You,” she tilted her head at Bumblebee. “You will be called Bumblekit. You, Shadowkit.” she said, looking at Lily. She then moved to Coco. “Your new name will be Dovekit.” She turned to Oreo. “You will be Specklekit.” she then nodded at Milo, “your name is Crowkit. And lastly,” she turned to Cosette and her glare softened slightly. “You’ll dawn the name Honeykit.”
The kits gleamed with pride as the clan chanted their names, and they hopped down from the Highrock. Softstar gave one last angry glance at the kits before padding off to her den, Littlestream following hastily.
A grey she-cat with white paws padded over to the kits as they jumped down.
“Hi! I’m Rosepaw. Littlestream asked me to give you kits a tour of camp since she’s busy talking to Softstar.” she purred kindly.
Dovekit gave her chest fur a quick lick and shrugged, huffing. “I don’t care about our new camp. Take me to a river. I haven’t seen myself in at least ten moons.”
The apprentice gave Dovekit an odd look, her friendliness fading slightly.
“Not even a moon, Dovekit.” Crowkit purred in amusement.
Although Dovekit wasn’t excited to explore, Specklekit was kneading the ground with anticipation.
“Can we go everywhere?! See everything?!?”
Rosepaw looked at Specklekit and held in her laugh. “Aren’t you eager? You can do that when you become an apprentice, but for now you have to stay here.”
Specklekit and Crowkit looked disappointed, but Shadowkit was too in-awe to protest. Her eyes scanned the camp in wonder.
“It’s even prettier than mama described it..” she whispered as the other kits began to look around.
Rosepaw let them scan the area before she gave a quick tour and shuffled them all back into the nursery to play with the other kits. The air was filled with possibility and wonder at what was going to come of these six kits, and how their new future was going to plan itself out.
