The gems had gone into a cave to retrieve the Shooting Star weapon. The ceiling was covered in icicles that were very large and dangerous to be around. Not long after going in the cave many of these sharp shards of ice started falling around the children, so Bismuth bubbled the kids individually and sent them off to the temple. The twins landed in their own room, but Page and Steven wound up in the burning room, their bubbles popping and sending them to the floor. Page landed gracefully on her feet, but Steven bounced into another bubble, popping it and sending Steven and the gem both bouncing on the ground. Page helped her brother to his feet just as the others burst into the burning room, and the gem started to reform.

The gem reformed into the centipeedle mother, but her form was much smaller than before. Sophie stopped the gems from poofing her again, simply by remarking "This is going to be interesting". Steven approached the scared gemling and pet her head, calming her down. Once she was calm Page brought out a bit of rope from her gem and made a leash and collar. The eldest kids asked if they could take care of the creature and, with assurances from Sophie, the gems allowed it, but not in the house.

Out front by one of the temple's hands, Steven and Page were just trying to get the gemling, dubbed Centi, to follow simple commands by treating her with Chaaps. She was getting really good, and could make cooing noises along with the jingle, when a seagull decided to interrupt their training. Frightened, Centi spat at the bird and the intruder flew away. By making the noise the seagull did, the kids found they could get Centi to spit acid wherever they wanted, and took her to the door to let everyone know.

After a couple mishaps inside, the gems took the kids back to the cave and Centi helped make a path through the ice and snow. Just as Spinel grabbed the Star with her gloves, the cave shook and sent sharp shards of ice falling onto everyone. Steven was able to put a shield up to save everyone, but Page was stuck just outside the protection. Centi pushed her under the shield just as a very large chunk fell. Page was safe, but Centi got poofed. Once the ice stopped falling, Spinel sent the Star to the temple in a bubble, while Page and Steven checked on their friend. The gem was intact, and Page bubbled the gem, her first bubble. After Page sent her off with a tear, Steven got an idea and performed his own first bubble, sending a bag of Chaaps to their friend's side. The gems mused that maybe the corrupted gems weren't too far gone after all. Amethyst remarked about how Rose and Pearl would try to help the gems in the past, and that maybe the kids would have better luck, Sophie agreeing saying she had a good feeling about the future.
