The girls start filling out from the throne room and head off with their maids. I look around for mine, but can't seem to find her. Out of the crowd of retreating maids and girls, a maid with pastel pink hair and bright blue eyes walks up to me. "Hello, my lady." She curtsies, bowing her head to me in greeting. She brings her hand to her chest saying "My name is Arabella, and I'll be your servant for the remainder of your stay in Kroba."

Up close she has fair skin and distinct freckles across her nose and cheeks. Her cheeks flush at my stare, I can't help it though! I've never seen anything like her, she's really pretty! "Hello, I'm Beatrice Coldwell." I say nodding my head to her, she gives me a bright magical smile, gesturing to one of the doors. "Let us go to your room and I'll explain everything in detail to you, my lady." I nod smiling at her "I would like that very much Arabella."

Her cheeks flush before leading me off to my room. Looking back into the throne room I see the queen smiling and waving goodbye to me. A smile formed on my face before I could even realize it.

Arabella takes me up a couple stairs then down a long hallway to a door at the end. "This will be your room, my lady." She opens the door to reveal a bedroom I could never hope for.

I walk in my mouth dropped in awe. The bed is off to the right up against the wall in the middle of the room. There's a large dresser with drawers and products on top, the mirrors fanned out on top. Further into the room I can see a balcony with a cute table and chairs, flowers decorating the edges. To the left of the dresser is a huge closet the size of my old bedroom.

I'm in awe staring around the room, the aesthetic and color theme is cream white and rich forest green. "If anything isn't to your liking just tell me, and I'll have it removed and replaced." Arabella says smiling at me sweetly, her hands folded at her front.

"Really?" I arch my eyebrow in question. She nods with a smile "Would you like for me to explain everything and get you started, my lady?" She asks, while sitting down on the big bed slowly, testing its softness. And oh boy, I'm sinking in...

"Yes please do. I would like to get everything out of the way." I nod to her, a little eager to learn what's going on. So far I've had a really good experience, I even got my own pretty maid.

"Alright." She walks over to the bookshelf next to the closet, and pulls out a book. "This is a book of all the different species living in Kroba!" She walks over and hands the book to me. "Queen Ziva already mentioned suitors to all of you." I nod speaking up while I open the book "Yes, what is all of that about?" I ask, flipping through some of the pages.

"With every batch of human women we get, they all go through the same process." She points her finger up explaining "All the women will go through this courting fight of sorts. You will compete with the other girls by learning our ways while meeting with suitable men of our kingdom." Arabella says cheerfully, "You will also be on live magic waft."

"Magic waft?" I question not knowing what that is, she continues "Magic waft is this." She walks over to the small table, swiping her hand atop a small triangular shape. White floating smoke hovers over the small triangle, an moving image of the queen talking to her people. I'm able to even faintly hear her speaking.

"This is magic waft, it's a live magical feed. Everyone in the kingdom has one. It's for communication, entertainment, and announcements." I look at it amazed, this stuff is crazy! We have nothing like that where I'm from!

"We'll be live?" That's a strange word but I think I understand what it means. She nods her ahead agreeing "Yes, you'll be live, but not all the time. Only when you're with the queen sometimes and during challenges." I nod my head slowly, catching on what's happening.

So while I'm here I'll be treated well, go through challenges, learn more about their world, and meet their men?

"What is the suitor thing all about? Why do you want us to pick a suitor?" I ask, she looks a little nervous before answering. "Suitor or suitors, my lady." Her cheeks turn slightly more pink than they already are. "You can have more than one suitor, my lady." She continues, my eyes widen "More than one?" I look at her bewildered "What do you mean more than one?"

She blushes "The reason for us taking in humans in the first place is because we need them to help populate..." She bows to me like she needs to repent for her sins.

I look at her opened mouth "So all the women you brought were only for your need to populate?!" I couldn't help but get offended, I know some marriages are like that, but not as common.

Arabella bows deeply "I'm sorry my lady, I didn't mean to offend you! I promise it's not as bad as it sounds! Your genes help keep our gene pools healthy! You are very important and valuable for our race!" She lifts up her head looking into my eyes deeply, her eyes showing determination.

My anger softens, I personally can't be angry at Arabella. She's been so sweet this whole time, and nothing awful has happened to me. Honestly this is the best outcome for all of us. It's going to be hard, but at least we're not getting eaten or beat to death.

"It's alright Arabella, I'm not angry. I know you're just doing what you need too." I sigh softly letting the pint up anger leave me. She straightens up "I promise my lady, I'll serve you in any way possible! You can reply and trust me with everything, you're not alone!" She says with that same fiery determination.

I smile at her warmly, it's nice to hear that someone has my back. "Oh Arabella, I've been meaning to ask, what are you? The others from what I've seen have animal-like features." I ask, trying to not offend her as well. She looks a little shocked but smiles nonetheless "I'm what many call a fairy, or pixie! I have magic wings, and am able to do some magic myself!" She says cheerfully, bringing both her hands to her chest, taking in a deep breath.

Out of nowhere white butterfly wings begin to fade out from her back. My eyes are so wide and jaws so dropped I fear my face may break!

"Arabella you look like an angel!" She really does, any man would die happy after seeing her face. Arabella giggles "Thank you my lady." She bows her blushing face, her smile all the more radiant.

"Would you like to learn more about all the other races, my lady?" She asks cheerfully, feeling happy to show off her beautiful snow white wings. "Yes please!" I say excitedly, if there's more creatures like Arabella I wanna know and learn as much as I can!

All of this is starting to sound so exciting! I can't wait to learn more of this world that I was raised to fear!
