Alex was filled with questions but before he could ask, the wolf stood and walked away, the dream beginning to fade.

Alex woke with a start, sweat beading his furrowed brow.

Glancing at his alarm clock he realised it was only 6:30, but he knew he wouldn't get to sleep again, the questions in his head buzzing around.

He resolved to tell his mom about the dream he'd been having so he climbed out of bed and stripped down for a shower.

The warm spray seemed to calm Alex and woke him up.

He pulled on some clothes and walked downstairs, his mom was still asleep and Alex decided to make breakfast for the both of them.

A few ideas came to mind but he finally settled on making french toast.

He grabbed ingredients from the fridge and set to work, as the pan heated up Alex put a pot of coffee on to heat up ready for his mom.

The smell of coffee and food soon roused his mother and she came downstairs stifling a yawn, she stared incredulously at Alex as he slaved away over the stove top before finally making her presence known.

"You're up early", she said.

"Yeah, i didn't sleep too great." he admitted.

"something on your mind?" she asked noticing the way Alex was biting his lip, the way he always did when something was troubling him.

"kind of, there's something i wanted to tell you." he finally said.

He plated up the food while his mom grabbed a couple of mugs from the cupboard and making coffee for the both of them.

They sat down and ate in silence for a minute while Alex figured out how to tell his mom about his dream without freaking her out.

He cleared his throat before finally explaining about his dreams and how the night before's dream had been different.

Alex didn't notice when his mom's eyebrows shot up when he mentioned how the wolf had growled the word Mate at him.

She seemed deep in thought before sighing and placing her plate on the coffee table in front of her, she pulled Alex into a hug.

"it seems we need to have a chat, we don't have time right now or we'll be late. But tonight after school, wait for me, i'll give you a lift to and from school today so you don't need to drive while you're so tired."

Alex nodded dumbly.

His mom quickly showered and changed and Alex grabbed his stuff before they climbed into his mom's little red prius.

The drive to school was pleasantly quiet with Alex mulling over things in his head.

They pulled up to school and Alex noticed Riley waiting on the edge of the car park. He kissed  his mom on the sheek and climbed out.

Riley grinned when he saw him climbing out of the car.

"Sleeping with a teacher on your first day?" he said, an incredulous look on his face.

"Cheeky shit, that's my mom." Alex laughed.

"Wait, really?" Riley gasped.

Alex just nodded.

A thoughtful look crossed Riley's face but was quickly replaced with a smile and they set off for lessons.

The day passed in a blur of lessons and lunch, at 5 he knocked on his mom's office door.

She was sat at her desk with a stack of papers in front of her and she smiled when she saw him come in.

"How was your day love?" she asked.

Alex shrugged and explained that his head was a little bit of a mess all day, he had so many questions for the wolf.

His mom held up a hand to stop him from saying more.

"This isn't the place to discuss that, tonight at dinner i'll tell you what i can to prepare you." she said.

She gathered up her papers and shoved them into a lavender coloured file and pushed that into her bag.

They walked in silence until they reached the car.

The drive home was as quiet as the one on the way to school.

Not in the mood to cook that particular night his mom told Alex to order a take out of his choice.

He settled on chinese and called up to order.

His mom went to her office to finish grading some papers she needed to get done for the next day while Alex paced the lounge in frustration.

When the food finally arrived Alex paid the driver and gave him a decent tip before calling his mom down for dinner. She appeared at the top of the stairs in her favourite PJ's.

Alex served up the food and his mom took a seat on the sofa, pulling her legs up next to her.

Alex brought the food over and sat down next to her, being careful not to sit on her feet.

They ate in silence for a moment before finally setting her plate down and saying something that Alex didn't understand at first.

"This may sound ridiculous, but the wolf in your dream is your other self, We're what people call werewolves." she said with a small amount of resignation in her voice as if she'd never wanted to have this conversation with Alex.
