As Seth entered his room, he immediately began to search for the box. The first thing he opened was the wooden cabinet. It is where he puts his folded clothes in, but it is also where he hides his important things by sticking them between some clothes. Upon rummaging it thoroughly, however, there was no box in it.
Next, he tried to search inside the drawer just below his desk. Like what he had expected, there were only some teared-off pages of a book and a few crumpled papers. He continued to look for the box under his bed, under his pillow, on top of some furniture, and to god-knows-where he thinks he hid it until an hour had passed. Feeling that his hopes were gone, he tossed himself towards the bed.
"It's hopeless," he muttered under his breath. "It'd be best to buy a new gift that's not a necklace this time. But what would it be?"
Snapping him out of his thoughts, the door creaked open as a figure of a woman enters his room.
"Did you find it, Seth?"
Seth was asked by his mother.
"No."
Seth rose up and sat on the bed, staring at her mother afterward. The small box that he had noticed in her hand eventually met his studying gaze. It wasn't the box that he was looking for, however.
"What's that?" he asked with an index finger pointing towards the box.
"Oh, this?" She raised the box slightly. "It is also a necklace."
Seth remained to stare at her, waiting for her next words.
"This necklace is mine. But since you're in trouble right now and it's already small for me, I'm giving it to you." She placed it on his bed.
"Are you sure, mother?" Seth opened the box and looked inside. "This looks... expensive."
Even though the box seemed old, he couldn't help but doubt if the necklace was really at the same age as the box. The necklace was still lustrous as if it was new.
"I don't actually remember if it was expensive, but it doesn't really matter." She took out the necklace and showed it to him. "Here, take a closer look."
The silver loop chains were simple-looking, but the pendant, however, was out of this world. It had a white jewel that seemed to have captured every star inside it. What made it more captivating was how the 'stars' were constantly flowing in a slow and cycling manner.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
"...Yeah. It doesn't seem ordina—"
Suddenly, as Seth touched the pendant, he felt his mana being sapped out.
