He laid for a moment staring at his ceiling noticing tiny cracks in the plasterwork that he would not have noticed without his werewolf sight.

A strong, bitter smell came drifting into his room and Alex had to think what it was for a moment before realising that what he was smelling was coffee.

"No wonder mom always gets up as soon as coffee is brewed, it's like the pot is right next to me." he grumbled.

He made his way downstairs where his mom sat with a mug, writing out her lesson plans for the day.

"Morning mom" Alex said, his mom returned the greeting before saying that she had to go into work early to finish off some tasks that required her attention.

"Alex, before i go, theres something i need to give you." she said, extracting a small pouch on a cord necklace.

"You'll need to wear this for a couple of days, otherwise the pheromones of the other werewolves may overwhelm your senses causing you to black out. This pouch contains 5 sprigs of wolfsbane, everyday after today, wear the pouch, removing one sprig every day which will allow your nose to get used to the heightened smells." she explained.

Alex took the necklace and pulled it over his head and tucked the pouch into his shirt.

She kissed Alex on the cheek and wished him a nice day before heading out.

Alex made himself some toast and a cup of coffee before settling down to eat before school.

He stood up and stretched and grabbed his stuff before stepping out of the house and locking the door.

He strolled over to his car, wincing slightly at the enhanced brightness of the sun on his newly awakened eyes.

He pulled on a set of sunglasses and started the car, then made his way to school, realising that he felt physically stronger too, noticing that turning the steering wheel seemed easier than normal.

Riley stood waiting in his usual spot waiting for Alex's big SUV to pull up, he greeted Alex happily and noticed the small cord necklace round his neck but didn't say anything.

They chatted as they walked to class and made plans to go out after school to a cool little geeky cafe that had recently opened in town.

Stepping into the school made Alex a little nauseous for a moment, an assault of extremely strong scents assailing his nose.

Riley noticed the look on his face, "You feeling okay dude?" he asked, concern in his eyes.

Alex's heart jumped at his voice, the wolf in his mind stirring.

Mate

Mentally reeling, Alex tried to process what had just happened.

Riley was his mate? but that couldn't be right, Alex wasn't interested in guys but something about Riley made his heart race and his stomach tighten.

Alex managed a quick smile, reassuring his friend that he was okay.

The day went past in a blur and soon they were sitting outside of a quaint little cafe, Alex had a fresh lemonade while Riley had settled for a fruit smoothie, they chatted for a while, Alex's wolf going wild in his head every time Riley spoke.

Alex begged the wolf to calm down for a while so he could figure out his head.

The wolf did as he asked, laying down and keeping quiet for a while.

While Riley spoke Alex watched his lips moving, full, delicious looking lips with a tint of red.

Alex started wondering what they would feel like against his own.

He shook the thought from his head quickly, telling himself that he wasn't into guys, but his heart was telling him otherwise.

They parted ways too soon and Alex headed home to train with his mom.

The next few days passed in a blur of school, training and hanging out with Riley, who Alex seemed to be getting more and more attracted to.

Alex had finally accepted his feelings towards Riley but wasn't sure if he felt the same way about him, so he resolved to tell him sometime in the future, but not right now.

A week had passed before Alex's mom called him into her office at home and explained that she had managed to convince the local alpha to take over his training and handed him a slip of paper with an address and a phone number on it.

"Straight after school, you need to go to this address to meet with the local alpha. He will give you a brief explanation of what your training entails." she told him before she went to work.

Alex went to school like normal but his nerves were shot, what if the alpha didn't like him, would he kill him?

Shaking the thoughts from his head Alex realised that class was over and it was time.

The address was inputted into his phone ready to go and he set off.

Alex pulled up to the house and gaped like a fish out of water, the 'house' was more like a freaking mansion, all white marble with a curving stairway leading up to an impressive looking oak door.

Steeling himself, Alex climbed the stairs and knocked lightly.

A young woman in her early thirties answered the door, a look of distaste on her face momentarily, before composing herself.

"What can i do for you young man?" she asked politely, a hint of barely concealed malice in her voice.

A voice echoed from the back, a powerful bellow, "Don't insult my guests Amanda, he is here on my orders."

The woman huffed and opened the door to allow Alex into the house.

An extremely tall and well built man with brunette hair and piercing green eyes stood up and appraised him before introducing himself.

"Names Robert, i'm the local alpha that your mom asked to teach you, from your scent alone i can tell how strong you could be with a little polishing, i think this might be fun." he smiled.

"a pleasure to meet you sir, i look forward to learning from you" Alex said pleasantly, he really was excited, Robert seemed like a cool guy.

Robert boomed out a laugh, "no need to be so formal, we'll begin training once your training partner arrives."

The front door opened and a familiar voice echoed, "dad i'm back."

Alex swivelled around and stared at the other guy.
