The clock struck seven by the time I was done with the baking. I proudly looked at the cake. Olivia knocked on the door for the umpteenth time in the last hour.
"Please come now, Kayla. You need to get ready for dinner"
"I am done Olivia I am coming."
"You have been saying it for the last hour"
"What could I do if the brilliant idea of making some complimentary icecream came to my mind" I retorted.
I could sense that she sighed silently at my words. Sometimes I thought that she was way too sassy to be someone's lady-in-waiting. But then again, I wasn't as posh as a lady of high standing too. I quickly dusted off the flour from my apron, before folding it and coming out with the cake.
"Wow, Kayla! That looks amazing! Can I have some?", Olivia said, reaching her hand out to the fork.
"No. It's for Ka- uh I mean Sir Edgar!", I said, turning away to rescue my cake from her hands.
"Sir Edgar!", she scream-whispered, " I thought you had a thing for him until I saw you with Prince William but guess I was right afterall!"
"A thing? No! He is just my knight-"
"Knight in shining armour", she said in a sing-song tone. I sighed.
"You are not going to give up, are you?"
"No. Not until you ConFesSss"
I smiled at her. So nice it would be to have a friend like her also in my real life.
"Let's get going, Olivia or else we will be late for dinner." . . . The washed and clean new me was ready for dinner. I had told Olivia to call Edgar, so I had expected the knock when I heard it.
"Hello, Sir Edgar! I called you to feast on my strawberry shortcake.", I said as soon as he entered my room.
"You made this!", he said, looking wide-eyed, "Are you sure you didn't bribe the chefs to make it?"
I choked on air. "What! I would never!", I said, my hand reaching my chest to add a dramatic flair.
"It is edible, right?", he asked, looking at me from the corner of his eye.
"Are you eating eat or should I eat it myself?", I said, losing it.Frustration and threat seeped through my voice and Kaden- Edgar- quickly succumbed. Eating a piece out of it, I traced his eyes looking at me, the cake and back at me again. The intimacy score was steadily increasing above his head.
"You like it?", I asked, looking at him. He looked at me and then looked away, his lips still stitched. So he is not going to admit, huh? I didn't want to do this but... tactic two it is then. "If you don't, I understand. I would not make it again and will quit baking."
"Fine! Yes! I love it. Please don't quit baking and please make me some more!", he said, grasping my hand, before abruptly leaving it when he realised what he did.
I smirked. It was fun to see how much he panicked at the thought of fewer sweets. I sometimes wondered how he managed to be in shape with his love for confectionaries.
"Oh okay then. I won't quit if you like it so much. Also, I won the bet I guess",
He sighed before smiling back at me, "That you did. What would you like me to do for you?", he said, bowing down in front of me.
"Actually, I just wanted to make your mood better, which I assume I succeeded in doing. Other than that, I don't have anything specific in my mind.I will, however, think about it. For now, I would like to go to the Royal dining room to have my dinner. Remember, my request won't be easy when it comes so prepare for it"
"Let me lead the way", he said straightening up, opening the door for me and smiling "I have pledged my life to you princess. Your desires are my commands. Any command you give me will be my religion. I will never displease you. I am yours forever."
I stared at him in shock. Why did it sound so much like a declaration of love?
