Lunar Doctrine

Chapter 2 (Part 1)

Chapter 2 (Part 1)

Mar 04, 2021

The starry night revealed a curious aroma to the forest creatures' senses.

Mixed with the most intriguing mysteries of Fireflies Hills, the scent of the most exotic flowers infected every corner of that place like a flood of invisible magic. Magnificent sparkles emerged from the trees in small dots of light at that moment, revealing the reason behind the Sacred Soil's name.

With such a wonderful setting illuminated by an even more splendid moonlight, the Nathroryos' rune-city gleamed the mysticism of a nation truly attached to the night nature.

Through a daily life filled with sacred rituals, disciplinary training, and constant sacrifices, the moth-people knew nothing more than an eternal cycle of pain being applied and received on their bodies.

Being a vital part of that kind of ideology, the four members of the Eclipse Squad reached the first pillars of the rune-city.

There, Dallus, Liriak, Qurnuk, and Wokor managed to bring that heavy Stone Bear into Nathroryos' perimeter. Breathless with so much effort that they were required to complete the task, they could no longer take another step at that moment.

"Here’s fine," Dallus instructed the others to drop the animal’s carcass.

The beast fell to the ground once more, and the body's crash made a point of denouncing its great weight.

"Whew!" Qurnuk clapped his hands together, soon wiping the sweat from his forehead with his arm. “That’s a heavy one! I could literally die now!”

Wokor sought to catch his breath in silence, now closing his eyes so that he could concentrate on what his body needed.

"This must be the biggest we have ever hunted," Liriak crossed his arms as he needed very little time to recover. "Generally, the ancient ones do not come so far from their caves to these surroundings. This is something for the youngest."

The young lilac moth-man showed a great ability to analyze everything he saw before his eyes, and that was an attribute that Wokor witnessed at the first moments of combat.

"This is..." Liriak raised his hand to his chin in a fleeting thought. "Odd."

"It doesn't matter," Dallus didn't care, considering his concerns were elsewhere. "We have work to be done."

"How can I be of service?" Wokor bowed as he offered his aid to the leader.

"Dude!" Qurnuk was once again surprised by the newcomer's stiffness. "Chill!"

Dallus now approached Wokor, standing right next to him with a stern face.

"We are hunters," the leader said as he looked the newbie in the eye. "Now, we call the loaders."

The eldest of the squad soon moved on, turning his back on the three as he moved away into the rune-city.

Wokor visualized the silhouette of the leader leaving them, wondering how moody he could be with such cold duties to be followed.

"It's not your fault. Dallus is always thinking about the future," Liriak stood beside Wokor, joining him as he saw Dallus walking away. "Always one step ahead, he feeds concerns that you can't even imagine. A burden we wouldn’t be able to carry with so much death and bloodshed he experienced before his very eyes."
