It was a bright, sunny day in the midst of Autumn. Otome was on a bus heading to the airport with his classmates. It was a sudden decision by Tomoe that none of them really had much of a choice in. Before they all travel to Kyoto,I'd like to take this single chapter to tell you their 1 day preparation for this new adventure.
"Everyone, I have a sort of, emergency announcement. It includes a field trip, to mainland Japan." were the words Tomoe decided to start his class with. "Oh, don't worry, I already got your parents' and the Headmaster's permission."
"WHAT ABOUT OURS!" shouted, well everyone.
"You would've accepted it anyway, correct?"
"You are, but at least let us have some say in this." said Feta.
"Sorry, but we don't have the time for that. Now, I want all of you to go to the gym and switch into your METs."
"What are you going to do?" asked Kyoji.
"I left them in the storage so I was going to go fetch them."
"Them?" asked Yuuki.
"Your weapons, obviously. Unless you would prefer to fight bare-handed." Tomoe then ran off in a hurry and everyone just sat in silence for a bit. Eventually, Feta got out of her seat, carried her bag and started walking to the gym. Everyone then followed suit.
"Alright, everyone's looking good! I asked you guys what kinds of weapons you liked the other day so I went out and bought them." Everyone then walked up to the pile of weapons that was next to Tomoe and started digging through it. "The ones with guns should be especially happy. I had to buy BB guns and make them usable for Staeq bullets."
"Staeq bullets?" asked Kyoji.
"Well, Aeq are the umbrella-term for the 7 elements. Staeq is what creates Aeq and is also your own stamina/energy. Some refer to Staeq as the '8th element' but, that doesn't really matter. What does matter is harnessing your Staeq. Since all of you have switched into METs, I'm guessing you know how to use it, right?"
"Somewhat. Though, I can only bring it out of my body. Turning it into a bullet or something else seems impossible." said Shuichiro.
"Tell me, what is stamina?"
"It's...how long your body can last 'till it gets tired, right?"
"Correct. And the reasoning why humans get tired and sleep is to recover their stamina. My hypothesis is that both Staeq and stamina, which are the same thing, are both gluons."
"Gluons?" asked everyone.
"You learnt in physics, right? They're glue that keeps quarks together."
"Our energy is. When you get tired, you feel more loose and your body seems softer, doesn't it? My theory is that when you're tired, the gluons that keep your body together are sent flying and since they're your energy, the glue that kept your body tough and nimble and the energy that kept you awake are both gone. Thus, you sleep to regain them. Of course, with modern technology, you guys have probably found a different reason but this is mine.
"And? How does this help us?" asked Feta.
"For some reason, there are people who can't use Aeq. An easy explanation would be a lack of Staeq, so genetics? Nope. Outside factors? No. A belief? Again, no. It's a real conundrum, but let's leave it aside for now. What I just told you has alreay given ideas, hasn't it?"
"Huh?"
"In your hands, are the building blocks to create what you want. Imagine what you want, and if you have fuel, heat and oxygen, you can create fire. And if you have just Staeq...well, that's already more than enough for at least one attack."
