After a few minutes, it was just me and Rachel left, though I was still a bit shocked by the news.
"Lastic... hello, Lastic...LASTIC!" I felt someone start to intensely poke me in the shoulder.
"Eek... ah, I'm sorry Rachel."
"It's fine, you ok?"
"ah, yes!"
"Alright... well I have to go back to the library." She smiled and picked up the books from my pile, and made a tower taller than her head. Leaving me a bit concerned, but she waved me goodbye, I waved back. My mind still trying to process what I heard. I looked up at the clock tower—it was 5 O-clock, it took me a minute to realize what that meant. 'EEK THE BAKERY!' I turned on my heels and dashed through the bakeries door, once inside I almost collapsed from exhaustion.
"Mr. Bill... Mr. Bill, I'm here... I'm here!" I said panting between my words, Mr. Bill shuffled towards me to help me keep my balance.
"I can see that, how about we sit down." He said worriedly, leading and placing me on a seat at an empty table.
"Everything was... delivered." Mr. Bill patted my head,
"Good job Lastic." He smiled at me and tossed a sack of 30 bronze coins. He was about to leave when I remembered the test in three days.
"Mr. Bill did you hear about the extended invite from the school, well I think I want to try out for the acceptance test..." I twiddled my thumbs and looked down, I didn't know what he'd say about it. I heard his footsteps get closer to me and saw him kneel in front of me. His expression looked a bit sad, he reached for my head and pet my hair. After a few seconds of that, he spoke up.
"I... yes I heard about it, the people coming to the bakery love to talk," We both chuckled. "If you really want to try, go for it... Don't worry about me, I'm sure Petersons would say the same, we all know that there is something special about ya, so when you get in, send us letters alright?" I looked at him in his eyes, then started to wipe away the tears that continuously weld up in my eyes.
"Alright!"
"Well then, you better get running now, it's getting dark and I gotta close" He stood up and gave me a short smile and wave before lightly pushing me out.
