After the heat of the day baked the ground, Roy nudged her as he watched out the passenger side window, motioning to the figure they were coming up on. I looked over at my father and then out the window, seeing the shadow of what looked to be someone walking. Roy glanced toward her and spoke “What do you think?” Ceria kept looking forward and watching her hand gently sliding down the gun to her hip, thinking as they got closer.Roy slowing down deciding and spoke. “it’s hotter than hell out here kiddo, come on we are locked and loaded like ya said.” She nodded and spoke. “However, I’m radioing back to uncle Burt totell him what’s going on and for him to keep an eye out for anything that doesn’t look right.” Roy nodded and smiled at her before speaking. “Your more like your mother every day.” Ceria smiled happily and straightened up in her seat, calling back to Burtas Roy kept driving on.
After slowing down more for the others to catch up, they drove up behind the strange figure, seeing it was actually a person. Ceria swallowed hard, feeling her stomach fluttered in anticipation as she looked toward her father. Roy grinned as she moved out of the passenger’s seat and he looked outthe window and called to him. “Hey need a ride we are on our way to Farland.” The man looked at him as his sunglasses slid down, letting his dark green eyes scan over the man in the driver’s seat, as she walked up and placed an arm on the driver’s chair to grabhis bag. Ceria watched him, her hand resting on the gun at her hip, her round sunglasses slipping down her nose, her cheeks blushing alittle, finally able to see him clearer. Jet chuckled quietly as he looked toward the young woman leaning on the driver side chair and grinned slightly as he tossed his bag up to the to the passenger sides seat. Ceria grabbed it, the anticipation still bubbling in her stomach and pushed it in to the floor beside the chair. Jet just smirked, dusting his camo cargo pants off, and then brushed the faded leather jacket off that covered the black tank he wore, glancing back to see two other campers slowing down after them.
The man looked at Roy from behind the sunglasses, running a hand over his tied back brown hair and nodded, smiling as he climbed in to the passenger’s side, taking the sunglasses off. The man glanced around the cab of the camper as Ceria took a bit of a step back from the front. Her mind racing to how this guy was kinda big, not body builder but much bigger than she was making her swallowed and keeping her an unamused look on her face covering her slight surprise. The man glanced back at the young woman and noted the baggy jeans ripped on both knees, the gun in the holster and the sleeveless tee-shirt she wore, shoulder length dark hair on her right shoulder and barefoot. Ceria looked at him and cocked a brow as she turned and walked back to the back, looking through a box. Ceria sighed quietly, her cheeks red and swallowed, finding herself a bit attracted to the newcomer, which surprised the hell out of her pushing back the thought. She took in a breath and calling up to her father. “Do you want me to bring another MRE anda bottle of water?” Roy grinned and called back to her. “You know the drill sweetheart.” The man glanced over again, hearing her speak, his ears a little flush facing the front once again. Ceria huffed silently and pulled the crate down, looking through it, ready to ignore the newcomer completely because new people can create problems. She frowned and nodded, digging around, finding one. Her ears perking up, hearing her father chuckled and speak to the man.“Please forgive her the last time we picked a walker, They had anasty reaction to the Farland processed food so only MREs while we drive.”
The man swallowed hard before hespoke back to him. “No, I totally understand, specially out here um names Jet.” The man said turning toward the driver as Ceria watched, her hand on the gun ready to pull it if need be. Jet glanced back at her smirking, then looked back at the man driving and extended his half gloved hand for his. Roy grinned and took his hand and shook it as she rolled her eyes and pulled her headphones on and turned the Mp3 player on, looking down at the small device. Jet Smirked and rubbed his rough chin and then spoke. “Looks like she doesn’t like me.” Roy laughed a little and shrugged. “Sorry about that, she is stand offish when meeting someone new.” Roy sighed as she brought up the MRE and tossed it in Jets lap, bending putting the water bottle in the cup holder as he watched her leaning between them. Jet quickly glancing up and then back down holding back a sly smirk as Ceria stood back up glancing down at him unamused and then turned away, walking toward the back of the camper. He glanced back watching her as she moved the sheet smirking, reaching for the bottle of water and opening it taking a drink. Jet chuckled a little as Roy looked over at him and smiled as he spoke. “She really isn’t as mean as she seems, but crossing her is not advised.” Ceria stood behind the sheet catching bits and pieces of what her father said, her cheeks going bright. The strange sensation she first had crept back up, making her fuss under her breath. Ceria frowned, walking farther in to the back and crawled on the bunk looking out the window.
Ceria cursed under her breath again, hearing her father laugh as her bunk bumped slightly from theroad, her head phones playing one of the old song her mother used to enjoy trying to distract her mind from the newcomer. After a minute Ceria lounged there looking out of the window, her mind still roaming over the newcomer making her scoff and sit back up. She huffed, pulling out one of the spare guns she had been working on, because the ones that you would get from Farland were disposable and only good for 4 rounds. Ceria grinned, looking the piece over and began disassembling it slowly, pushing out the locking mechanism, tossing it in the wastebasket in the corner. After finally putting it back together, she looked at it for a moment and placed it in the box she kept with the others. While she sat there, her mind trailed back tothe newcomer, making her gasped and shake her head, whispering.“Yeah, no thanks.” and closed her eyes, the warm breeze from the window blowing in at her, lulling her to sleep the music she was listening to calming her.
Jet looked over at the older man after she had gone back to the back, noting his appearance and otherfeatures as Roy kept talking. “Well son, how old are ya and howlong have you been a walker?” Jet looked over at him and almost choked on what he was eating. “Um, a walker?...” Roy nodded as Jet spoke once again. “oh you mean.. um.. how long have I been walking the road?” Roy nodded as he spoke again. “Don’t forge tyour age.” Jet grinned at him and then nodded, indulging Roy a bit.“I am 22… um… and I have been wandering around for three years.” Jet sighed, a bit confused why Roy was so interested in his background. Roy laughed, wiping some sweat off his forehead before speaking. “interesting my daughter ceria is 20.” Roy smiled leaning toward him speaking quieter. “Please forgive her actions, she’s been quiet stand offish toward newcomers, but she will come around eventually.” her father joked. Jet’s eyes went wide and choked a little on the cracker and took a drink before he spoke.“What... ah.. no I understand um....” Jet stopped for a moment picking the correct words and spoke again. “Don’t mind me saying, but she’s beautiful, sir.”
Her father grinned at him andsighed. “Ceria was named after the city her mother and I got married in, and she is just as fiery as her mother.” Roy sighed, a small sad smile on his lips as he reached forward for his cup and took a drink. Jet looked at him, a little relief in his voice since nowadays it was common to find an older man with a younger woman due to of the scarcity of refugees around. Jet sat there trying to pick his words correctly once again. “Where is your wife then Roy?”Roy reached up touching a picture of a beautiful dark headed woman with a gun in hand and smirked. “Don’t worry, son, she is watching over my daughter and I for a good six years now.” Roy wiped a tear from his eye and kept driving down the road and grinned, thinking of Ceria’s mother. Roy grinned over at him as the sky darkened and the other campers pulled to the side for the night. As soon as Roy stopped the vehicle and sighed, looking over at him.“Jet, if you are to stay riding with us, we need to get you up to speed as to who we are and what we do.” Roy Smiled and patted Jets shoulder.
