Nova sped down the road on her bike with Alfred and Rigby close behind her. Most mafia bases were hidden within the city usually in plain sight, theirs however was hidden in the rundown outskirts of town. Their base was an old rundown factory complex hybrid that had been abandoned after the first few years, it was composed of an office building, an apartment complex, a few warehouses, and a car garage. Nova stopped her motorcycle outside of what appeared to be a condemned car garage. Nova slid open the doors to reveal a clean and brand new-looking interior, Malorie always described it like it looked like she had opened a portal to another world almost. Inside was filled with all different types of almost brand new vehicles, some of them had been roughed up a bit from recent use. Nova pulled in and parked her bike in its spot, everyone had their own parking spaces after a dispute between two members over a single spot.
“Please be safe,” Rigby begged Alfred as they walked over to her. Alfred ignored him and huffed, she had never seen Alfred like this before. He was always trying to make light of everything and always talking, it was strange to see him this sullen and cold especially toward Rigby.
“Alfred Stefen Reynolds you promise me right now that you’ll come back to me,” Rigby shouted at him as he grabbed Alfred’s arm forcing him to look at him as tears streamed down his face. Alfred gently placed his hands on the sides of Rigby’s face as his scowl softened when he realized how he was acting.
“I promise Rigby. I promise I’ll come back to you. Besides I got the pipsqueak to watch my back.” Alfred whispered as he kissed him.
“Don’t worry Rigby, the only one not coming back tonight is Soren,” Nova said as Alfred brushed Rigby’s hair out of his face.
“Now you get yourself to the med-bay and stay there, I'll be there soon,” Alfred whispered as Rigby nodded his head and walked through a set of doors that connected the garage to the med-bay. The doors had been installed after they lost a member because they couldn't leave the cars out in the open and had to pull into the garage and couldn't get to the med-bay in time.
“Shaun will get him fixed up just fine.” Nova sighed trying her best to comfort Alfred as they walked out of the garage.
“I swear when I get my hands on that disgusting bastard….” Alfred growled as he trailed off in anger.
“Save it for Soren,” Nova mumbled somewhat giving up on trying to comfort him. She wanted to comfort him but at the same time, she was filled with almost the same rage he was.
“Let's get this over with,” Nova grumbled as they made their way over to the office building. The office was the second biggest building out of all the ones they had, the apartments were the biggest building they had. Nova had almost forgotten that Alfred was with her as they walked into the office building. The lobby mostly consisted of meeting rooms that were assigned to different teams and members. Soren’s office was on the top floor of the building.
“Elevator or stairs?” Nova asked as Alfred ignored her question and stepped into the elevator. Nova was trying to figure out something to say to him as they rode the elevator to the top floor in silence. She could understand why he was quiet, but it was strange he was always the one in a good mood and trying to get a smile from everyone.
“Where’s Soren!” Alfred shouted startling Isabella as he stormed out of the elevator.
“H-h-he’s in a meeting,” Isabella said as she pointed towards the doors to Soren’s office. Alfred stormed over to the door and ripped them open despite Isie’s protests.
“Damn..” Alfred whispered as he froze in the doorway. Nova walked over and stared into the room, there was a woman around 5,4. Her reddish-brown hair reached around her mid-back and her hazel eyes with a leading mixture of green and brown were set in a cold hard stare that could intimidate anyone, she was standing over Soren’s body with a spear raised and pointed at Alfred.
“Whoa! Whoa!” Nova shouted as she jumped in between the woman and Alfred. she was gonna make sure Alfred got back to Rigby, nobody would miss her anyway.
“Who are you?” The woman asked, glaring at them.
“I'm Nova, and this is Alfred. We're not here to attack you. We were here to kill him actually.” Nova said as she motioned to Soren’s dead body.
“Now who are you?” Alfred asked the laughter returning to his voice.
“Im Valentina Dietrich.” The woman said as she hesitantly lowered her spear to her side.
“At least it's easier to say than McIntyre.” Alfred joked as he ran a hand through his hair.
“What are you talking about?” Valentina asked him.
“The mafia? It’ll be renamed after your last name unless for some reason you’d keep McIntyre.” Alfred said, rolling his eyes.
“You killed the mafia boss, you're the new leader. If you don't wanna be you can always choose somebody else but most people usually only kill the boss to become the boss.” Nova explained better as Alfred nodded his head in agreement.
“Then why did you want to kill him?” Valentina asked, looking over at Soren’s dead body.
“He was abusing my husband,” Alfred whispered as he glared at the floor.
“Why did you kill him if not for power?” Nova asked Valentina as she looked her up and down.
“He killed my husband and I've spent four years hunting him down to make him pay for what he did to my family,” Valentina said her voice full of disgust as she spoke about Soren.
“Heh, you skewered this sucker good though.” Alfred slightly chuckled walking over to Soren's dead body.
“Dead bodies don’t bother you?” Valentina asked Nova, staring at her slightly confused. “
I grew up around dead bodies,” Nova explained, she knew why Valentina was confused, Nova was the age and looked like a trainee. Trainees never saw a dead body usually until their first mission which is also when the reality of what they got themselves into hits them like a train.
“So the image of them doesn't haunt you?” Valentina asked, Nova could tell she was trying to read her.
“There is one body that haunts me,” Nova said as a shiver of the memory ran down her spine.
“But we all have something that haunts us,” Nova whispered as Alfred sighed.
“I swear if he comes back to haunt us I'm gonna make it the most disturbing moments he’d ever haunt,” Alfred said as he nudged Soren’s side making sure he was dead.
“Well, what do we do now?” Alfred asked as he stuffed his hands into his pockets.
“We call a meeting,” Valentina said flatly.
“Alright, we’ll get on gathering everyone. Isabella will show you where to go and Alfred gets somebody up here to deal with this mess.” Nova said gesturing towards Soren’s body. Nova caught a glimpse of Valentina staring at her trying to decide something about her. Nova could tell she was trying to decide something important about her, Nova decided to ignore it as she left the office with Alfred. Tonight was going to be a rollercoaster.
