Eve was pitched headlong into a
harrowing fall. And silence.
Suddenly everything stopped
spinning. As she gathered herself, she felt the searing sensation of danger. This
was not her perch. It was not her Turn. The fall into darkness had launched her
into a unknown space that bore no resemblance to anything she had ever
experienced or imagined. And onto an unknown plateau of desolation.
Worse yet, as she alighted she was
surrounded by thousands of metallic creatures rippled with jagged pincers and
snapping jaws. At first they scattered. But then, en mass, they approached with
renewed vigor.
The horrid sound they emitted severed every nano into shards of
dread. The horde fought amongst
themselves for prime position.
Murmur whispered, directing Eve’s attention to two tiny beings nearby. They looked to be equal parts mass and energy. Unformed. And unaware. The two swoons intuitively gravitated toward Eve as the metallic creatures surrounded them in every direction, high and low, ready to pounce.
The last nano of terror was the
worst.
Eve did the only thing she knew how to do.
