When watching Natalie perform, Mira could forget her troubles. She could forget her parents telling her she had no say in her future. She could pretend that maybe she was someone else.
"Now Mira," Her mother had begun. "Your father has been diligently negotiating on the family's behalf with King Ralik. And he has informed me of good results. You are to marry the crown prince, Marcus."
When the pretty horses arrive, the Festival of Jewels has begun.
Natalie is everything Mira wants to be. Bold, graceful, a fierce warrior. For Mira, the highlight of the annual Festival of Jewels is seeing Natalie perform. Watching her do daring feats on horseback that Mira would never dream of trying. She’s never spoken to her, for fear of her parents wrath. A noble lady is not supposed to befriend a traveling entertainer.
But this year is different. After being informed she has no choice but to marry the prince of the kingdom, Mira works up the courage to do the unthinkable. To not only speak to Natalie this year but to run off with her and the entertainers after the festival. Will she successfully avoid a fate she does not want, and perhaps find something she always knew she was looking for?
