"Wow some of these are strange," Erik commented, reading through the paper.
"He's right," Mason said, "I know we've talked about how you loved Scottish accents, but I didn't know you would be this passionate about them. But most of them seem achievable, strange but achievable," He said, handing the wrinkled piece of paper to Zahra. Zahra's slanted dark eyes assessed the paper quickly scanning through all of the things Audrey had listed. Her eyes halted at one of the things on the list, the corner of her lips slightly turned up at the strange wish. But she didn't say anything and handed the paper to Hannah.
Hannah unlike Zahra and Mason, looked concerned while reading the list. Her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes widen. When she couldn't take it anymore she slammed the paper on the table. "You're not going to crash a car, you can't even drive," She said, glaring at the piece of paper as if it had killed her cat, it hadn't.
"That would be the point," Audrey said, drumming her fingers on the table, seemingly unconcerned about Hannah's worries.
"Oh yeah? And who's car are you even going to crash?" Hannah asked, turning her head to fully face Audrey, her hands crossed over her chest.
"Mom's."
"She's gonna kill you for it," Hannah said, tilting her head to the side, her eyebrows raised challenging Audrey.
"Nah, she won't. I'm already dying remember?" Audrey said with a smug smirk. Her eyebrows raising as well, challenging her friend back. Hannah let out a sigh at Audrey's answer, accepting her defeat.
"So," Audrey said, dragging out her words. "What can we do today?".
"My dad bought this bottle of Whiskey last month and forgot about it," Erik said, pointing at the first wish on Audrey's list.
Get drunk (like really drunk).
"Just so you know, the only reason I will be joining is to make sure she doesn't die just yet," Hannah said with a huff, pointing an accusing finger at a grinning Audrey.
It was around 5 when Audrey started to get ready, she was wearing a hoodie and a pair of short. Her hair was down in its natural state.
The group of five had decided to go to the Podium, a local diner where most kids from their school went to, also the safest place to get drunk without getting kicked out for being underage, the Podium was flexible in that way.
The moment Audrey entered the local diner, the smell of fried food filled up her nostrils. There was a podium in the middle of the diner, where a local band was singing. Round tables surrounded the podium, while booths with square tables were moved to the side of the two walls. Audrey scanned over the crowd, mostly filled with kids from her school, the round tables near the podium were occupied by the more extroverted of the bunch while the quieter kids occupied the booths, with a few elderly couples and small families sitting there too, The Podium still to no one's surprise was just like The Podium. Looking over the crowd, Audrey easily spotted the mop of green and platinum blonde hair. She walked towards the booth the person was sitting on and took a seat beside them.
Erik looked up from his phone and grinned at Audrey, his right hand that was on the couch beside him was lifted up and a bottle of whiskey was loosely hanging off of it. Audrey reached out and took the bottle from Erik and examined it.
"Does it taste good?" She asked.
"Never."
"Where's everyone else?" She asked, fascinated by the bottle of Whiskey.
"Zahra and Hannah will be here in a few and Mason's being lazy," Erik explained, double-checking his phone to make sure what he said corresponded to the texts he got.
A few minutes later Zahra walked in alongside Hannah, the two girls quickly spotted Audrey and Erik, taking a seat opposite the two. Hannah warily stared at the bottle of alcohol while Zahra just looked amused by their current situation.
"Alright, since most of us are here, we're gonna now take away Audrey's drinking virginity," Erik announced standing up from his seat but getting, unfortunately, dragged down by a very embarrassed Audrey and Hannah.
"Can you not announce that to the whole world," Audrey hissed, glaring at him.
"Alright alright," Erik said raising his arms in surrender.
"Calvin, could you please get us a shot glass," Zahra asked Calvin, one of the kids from their grade who was working as a waiter in the Podium.
"Y-yeah sure," Calvin stuttered, a small blush creeping up his neck. He hurriedly walked back to the kitchen, almost dropping the plate in his hand.
"You do know the guy's basically in love with you right," Hannah said looking at Calvin's silhouette amongst the crowd of the Podium.
"Nonsense," Zahra said shrugging off Hannah's comment.
A few seconds later, a tripping Calvin came in and placed the shot glass on to their table.
"Thank you so much," Zahra said, giving him her most charming smile.
"It's not a problem," Calvin replied, looking down at his feet, when he realized he had been standing there too long to be appropriate, he rushed away from the table almost tripping another waiter and getting scolded for his clumsiness in the process.
"Poor kid," Erik sighed dramatically, making the rest of the three snicker.
"Okay okay. Audrey, are you ready?" Erik asked as he finished pouring the Whiskey into the shot glass. Audrey nodded, taking the shot glass from the table and pouring all its contents straight into her mouth, the whiskey was slightly sweet but left a bitter after taste, the liquid burned the back of her throat as it went down, leaving a trail of unease with itself.
As all the liquid from the tiny glass drowned in her throat she put the glass back onto the table, letting out a loud sigh.
"So, how was it?" Zahra asked, tilting her head to the side.
"Strange," Audrey said, the bitter after taste of the golden brown drink still latched onto her taste buds.
"So another one?" Erik asked lifting the bottle up.
"Obviously," Audrey replied.
Three shots later, Mason had finally decided to show up.
"Mason Jar," Audrey screamed shooting up from her seat and giving Mason a big hug.
"Ew, go away" Mason grimaced, pushing the drunk girl off of him. "How many has she had?" He asked, taking a seat opposite Audrey so she wouldn't get her hands on him.
"Three," Hannah said. "She's a lightweight,"
"No shit," Mason mumbled.
Audrey took another shot, as she leaned back on her seat. "You know I've been thinking about the Kissing wish I put on my list,"
"What about it?" Erik asked.
"Who would I kiss?" Audrey slurred, this time not even bothering with the shot glass, instead just drinking the alcohol straight from the bottle.
"I mean for girls I could probably kiss one of these two," She said pointing her index and middle finger at Zahra and Hannah. "But what about the boy?" She asked to no one in particular.
"You do know we exist right?" Erik said pointing at Mason then himself.
"Ah yes, but see the problem are you both are like my brothers," Audrey explained.
"And, Hannah and Zahra aren't like your sisters?" Erik challenged Audrey.
"Yes, but they're cuter," Audrey said, giving Erik a large grin, he let out an annoyed sigh at her response.
"Ooooh, what about him, he's cute," Audrey said pointing at one of the boys crossing their table.
"Huh?" The boy said, confused at Audrey's sudden outburst, but before he could even say anything or maybe even walk away. Audrey had gotten up and put her hands onto his right shoulder and stared at him.
"Jake's cute. He's not perfect like that leather jacket Shane , but that makes you cuter for some reason. You have nice, floppy, soft brown hair. Not that I've touched them so I don't know if they're actually soft or not. And you those pretty green eyes. And you're not a dumb jock like that blondie Ben. Which makes you perfect for this," Audrey ranted, still staring at Jake and now basically hanging off of his shoulders.
"What's up with Audrey?" Jake asked looking at Audrey, then looking back at the table in front of him.
"She's drunk," Hannah replied.
"I thought she said she never wanted to drink," Jake said, putting one of his arms around Audrey's waist so she wouldn't fall on the floor.
"She just wanted to try it," Zahra said, her tone curt and stern, it wasn't hard for Jake to tell that this topic was not to be discussed furthur.
"That's not true," Audrey mumbled from beside Jake.
"Audrey," Mason warned
"No you shush," Audrey said pointing and Mason, then putting her finger on her lips.
"I'm dying," Audrey said in her drunken daze like it was the most normal thing to say to a classmate. Beside her, she could hear Mason and Hannah let out a frustrated groan, but at this point, she was too drunk to care.
"Aren't we all," said Jake "With schoo and life and such,"
"No no," Audrey said waving her hands in the air "I'm like dying dying,"
"Huh?"
"I have lung cancer,"
"Audrey," Another warning from Mason, this one much more forceful than the last.
"Is it true?" Jake asked.
"Yeah," Zahra sighed.
"Oh," Jake said, looking away from Audrey's group of friends, he wasn't sure what to say next, his eyebrows were furrowed and his lips were in a thin, sealed line.
"And what was it about kissing me?" He asked, looking back at Audrey, tightening his hold on her waist, breaking the scielnce that he had created.
"Audrey I don't thi-" Hannah tried to warn Audrey, "I have this wishlist," The drunk girl interrupted causing Hannah to groan out loud.
"And there's like these things I have on the list that I want to do before I die," Audrey said "And one of them is kissing a boy, and you're going to be that boy because you're so cute," She cooed pinching Jake's cheek.
Jake gave her a small smirk "I'll hold on to that," He said, prying Audrey's hands away from his face and helping Audrey sit back down beside Erik, he then left before anything furthur could be said, Jake had had enough shocks for one night.
"You stupid idiot!" Hannah and Mason yelled simultaneously at Audrey.
"What? What did I do?"
"Audrey you're gonna be late something late for school," A voice yelled, waking her up from her dreamy state. Audrey sat up on her bed, but before she could say something back to her mother, she felt her stomach churn and squeeze, stumbling out of her bed. She tripped into the bathroom, falling onto her knees in front of the toilet and letting everything in her system out.
"Never getting drunk again," She mumbled to herself. When she stepped out of the bathroom after cleaning herself up, she saw two pills on her side table along with a glass of water and a notecard. She walked towards it and picked up the notecard the messy cursive handwriting was Erik's. 'Have these, they help with hangovers' the note said, assuming the pills were pain killers, she took them. Once the pills were down, she felt slightly better but still not great, at least her stomach wasn't churning.
By the time she had reached school, the headache was slightly better but still not fully recovered. Audrey took out the books she needed for her next few lessons and gently shut her locker not wanting to create extra noise.
"Hey," A chirpy voice greeted from the other side of the locker door as Audrey shut it.
"Oh my god, don't do that Erik," Audrey yelped.
"So how are you feeling?" Erik asked leaning against the locker beside Audrey's.
"Like my head's about to blow up," She replied, walking towards her next class.
"Well, it's gonna get worse during lunch," He smirked, raising one of his eyebrows, giving her a wink.
"What do you mean?" She asked, stopping in front of the door of her math class and turned around to look at him.
"Nothing," He shrugged, walking away to his own class.
"Erik," Audrey half yelled just as the bell rang.
"Sorry I can't hear you," He turned around and yelled at her over the sound of the school bell with a cheeky grin on his face.
"Erik, come back," she yelled. "Asshole," she grumbled, walking into her class and took her usual spot. She tried her best to focus on class, but Erik's words constantly rang in her ears.
What did he mean by that? Was a question she constantly found herself asking throughout the whole day until lunch arrived.
Audrey had a plate of the school food when she walked out of the canteen and to the outdoor lunch tables, she immediately spotted Erik's platinum blonde and green hair sticking out like a sore thumb. Walking towards her lunch table, she placed her tray of food onto the table and took a seat beside Zahra, burying her head inner hands, letting out a loud groan.
"I'm so tired," She said, looking up from her hands.
"What the hell is Jake doing here?" She asked, as her eyes widen at Jake's sudden presence on her lunch table.
"You don't remember?" Zahra asked.
"Remember what?"
"She doesn't remember!" Hannah exclaimed, standing up and pointing in Audrey's direction.
"I'll help you remember," Hannah said, a smug smile on her lips. "When you got drunk last night..."
"Oh no."
"You started talking about kissing boys and Jake walked by our table..."
"Dear God."
"And so you called him cute, and told him you wanted to kiss him," Hannah kept explaining, making Audrey progressively feel more embarrased. Audrey's blushes weren't visible but her embarrasment clearly was.
"Oh and you also told him everything about your death and wishlist," Hannah finished a fake smile plastered on her face. Audrey's face was now burried in her hands. Definetly never getting drunk again, she thought.
"Now if you'll excuse me I'd like to film this," Hannah said pulling out her phone as she started filming Audrey.
"Kill me," Audrey mumbled.
"Can't do, you're already dying," Mason smirked, then telling Hannah to send the video to him later.
"At least you have your kiss promised, plus your compliments were a great boost to my ego," Jake finally spoke up, looking at Audrey with a smile. Audrey looked up upon hearing his voice.
"I really thought I was hallucinating, but I guess not," Audrey said, finally looking at Jake.
"That hurts you know," He chuckled.
"I still feel so embarrassed," She groaned out, putting her face back into her hands
"Oh my god," Audrey said with wide eyes, as it finally hit her. She raised her face from her hands and looked towards Erik, "Is this what you were talking about when we were at the lockers?" She asked pointing at him.
"I thought it was quite obvious," Erik replied.
