5 days had passed since Jay’s death and my resurrection. I could barely even bring myself to move and actually try to do stuff. I just laid in bed crying and eating, wishing that all of this was a dream. I had also begun to get used to this body. The burial was today and I was invited. My mum had talked Jay’s mum into inviting me. I went shopping for men’s clothes. I had just decided to use my second credit card since there was no other option. I had to make so many excuses so ‘Mina could stay in Tokyo’ since it would be weird if my original body didn’t go to my best friend’s funeral. I sighed and put on a black suit and an old fashioned black hat.
Jay’s burial was quite small, not too many people attended because their parents decided that. I was quite surprised that I was invited. I recognized some of his colleagues that I would always talk with. I couldn’t really talk with them now. It was raining heavily. I walked into a room where Jay’s parents walked out of before. Jay’s casket and body was kept there. The burial men were talking to each other.
“Hi,” I greeted, sadly.
“Oh hello! Would you like some alone time with him before we bury him?” One of the men asked. I smiled and nodded. They all left and I sat down on a bench looking at Jay’s body.
“Jay… I wish you were alive. I would have probably told you about my situation. You will be missed by everybody.” I started to cry.
“Why’d you have to leave like this Jay! Please… I beg you to come back alive!” I whined. I felt a tingle again and a smell of perfume. I groaned and took out the perfume bottle from my pocket. It was sparkling again.
“Why do you always act funny when I’m around Jay?! You’re not helping! Gosh!” I cried. Suddenly, it hit me. I remembered what Yoline had said in my dream. ‘This is Perseus. It’s perfume that revives you.’ Of course, I didn’t believe her then but now I had no other choice. What’s the worst that could happen to a dead body? I sighed, looked around to see if anyone was coming then sprayed the perfume on Jay. I waited for a minute but nothing happened.
“You’re absolutely useless!” I shouted at the perfume and slammed it on the floor.
“Jay, I hope to see you in heaven,” I sniffed and got up. I left the room and the men walked back in.
It was time for Jay to be buried. I was too devastated to attend so instead I leaned on my car watching them from afar. I sighed and reached into my car for some cigarette sticks and a lighter. I hadn’t smoked in 4 years but now I felt like it was a good time to do so. I started lighting the cigarette and was about to put it into my mouth but a short girl bumped into me, falling straight to the floor into a puddle. I gasped.
“Are you alright?” I asked, holding my hand out. She groaned and held my hand, lifting herself.
“Sorry,” She muttered.
“You should watch where you’re going,” I smiled. The girl apologized again. She glanced at my car.
“Isn’t this Mina’s car?” She muttered. What? How did she know that? I had never met this girl in my life. She turned around and stared at Jay’s family and friends walking with Jay’s casket and holding his picture. She squinted and rubbed her eyes.
“Huh? That’s me?!” She exclaimed. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and she ran towards them. I dropped the cigarette and stomped on it. Putting the cigarettes back in my pocket, I followed her. She started screaming ‘That’s me!’ but the people ignored her, probably thinking she was a crazy person. I immediately realised what was going. God answers my prayers in very bizzare ways. I grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her away to a place no-one could see us.
