The Draconem Wars - A sparkle of fire and flame

Chapter 7 - Lottery ticket

Chapter 7 - Lottery ticket

Mar 07, 2021

Meanwhile, back in the science chamber, Natasha's team is still attempting to crack the codex of the Neurotosk desperately on their computers.
An explosion rocks the tunnels nearby, as men screamed and burned, Natasha Egleens can tell that the Enforcers are coming closer and closer.
"How long more do you guys need? Damn it! Those Enforcers are just around the corner...hurry up guys!" Natasha cries out loud as she can see the defending rebels outside their chamber being dropped - one by one they fall at the cramped tunnel leading towards their lab.
"Three minutes...no two minutes!" Paterson begs as the final syntax on the screen is on the verge of being cracked.
"We don't have it! We've got to go now!" Natasha grabs her gear as the last standing rebel finally got knocked out defending their lair.
"Wait! We are almost there." Paterson shouts.
The Enforcers stormed into the chamber and started firing randomly. Bullets flew around as they hit on display monitors, glasses, keyboards and computers as some of the scientist got struck by the stray bullets too. Natasha ducks in time before a bullet struck her favorite red mug on her desk as she curses. She saw Paterson also ducked by the corner with his keyboard gripped firmly in his chest as he waits for the codex to be broken.
          "We got to go now!"
BEEP...The sequence of the codex on the screen got finally decoded.
"Finally...we crunched it!" Paterson disengage the network cables attaching to his laptop and pulls out the thumb drive from a nearby server as he and Natasha makes a dash out through the back of the chamber - just in time as stray bullets whizzes past them harmlessly. Lucas caught a glimpse of them as he whistled to them to join the remaining rebels from where he stood. When the Enforcers realized that the Neurotosk is still secured over a metallic pedestal, they stopped giving chase and radioed back to Katrina. "Captain...we have recaptured the Neurotosk."
"I am on my way comrade." Katrina struggles as she got up and curses as she walks drunkenly leaning on the side walls like a wounded spider walking sideways.
When she enters the chamber - her blurred vision and the deafening ringing suffered from the grenade blast earlier finally ceases. Strange she felt - probably it's the effect of the Neurotosk as it lies on the pedestal in the center of the lab - as if waiting for her to touch it, while the Enforcers stood guard in a defensive position surrounding her. She walks forward and grabs hold of the device - and felt a strange surge of sensation that runs down her spine. She almost dropped the gadget but managed to regained her composure.
At that moment, the Titanok asleep outside finally awakes as if in response with the Neurotosk. As it towers high above at around 100 feet tall with three distinctive white stripes running down its forehead - it gave a challenging roar as it breaks open the steel enclosure like a bamboo makeshift raft - crackling and splintering. For a moment, the Enforcers and the rebels cease fighting as they stared in awe at the magnificent beast. The Titanok recognized the last remaining standing Cyclops that put him down earlier. It ran towards it - fist it a few times before smashing it at the jagged walls. The three crew members bail out just in time - before it turns into a fiery fireball with a loud blast. Free at last, the Titanok unfold its massive wings and gave a victory roar as it flies off to a large opening atop the cavern and vanishes through the darkened skies.
Katrina realized that she has allowed a Titanok to escape - a powerful weapon for the Kanos dominion. She quickly puts on the Neurotosk on her head in an attempt to use it...but nothing happens...nothing happens still for a period of time before she finally gave up and tucks the weird contraption back to its original black crate. She walks out as the Enforcers follows from behind.
"Wrap it up everyone - we finally have the prize. Fall back to the LZ and wait for my command." She speaks through her intercom attached to her wrist.

The officer summoned by Victor finally managed to catch up with Jackson while he battles with the retreating Enforcers.
"General...Commander Victor request for your presence sir."
        "Where is he?"
"He's down in his private chamber waiting for you sir."
"Go ahead and join the others in the hovercraft. If I am not back in 5 mikes...you tell the pilot to take off without me."
        "Roger that sir."
Jackson sprints down the tunnel to the Commander's quarters.
Without long, he spotted the Commander lying wounded under a table as his men around him all have been silenced.
"Victor! Jackson rushes forward to help the Commander to his feet.
        "I am going to die..."
"No! Now is not the time for this bullshit."
"Listen to me..." Victor coughs up some blood.
"Pass this box to Sarah Mickellen...by the boathouse at the riverside back home...you will know how to find her...she's easy to spot...do you understand."
Victor fishes out a small box from his jacket and hands it over to his old friend.
"Today is not the day you should perish Commander...I am bringing you out." With more resolve, Jackson tries to lift up Victor as he walked limping - but falls down quickly after a few steps taken as he grimaced in pain.
"Yes I can perish - here...my old friend...now go...remember...Sarah Mickel..." Victor draws his last breath as Jackson now clings onto a lifeless body.

The remaining Enforcers pull out from the cavern and rushed back to their hovering Encirclers as they grabbed on the retracting rope slings. The last HAVOK hovercraft that belongs to the rebels - flew out from a hidden entrance on the side of the cavern with the last surviving rebels. Lucas turns to look back at the carnage, fire and explosion and smoke from the aftermath - while Katrina looks on at the fleeing rebel airships, for a moment...she felt mesmerized and not sure whether to pursue the escaping rebels.
"Shall we give chase Captain?" a nearby Enforcer asked.
"No its fine...we have done enough for today - return to base at once."
        "Yes ma'am." Answered the pilot.
Six Encirclers lift off and turns in the opposite direction heading back towards their HQ. From the distance...the burning island slowly dissipates from their view - leaving nothing more than a rocky sea and darkened skies across a very damn cold night.
