Something fell from the sky today, like a meteor! There was a loud BANG and the sun went dark for a second. It hit the ground a mile or so from my house. I don't know what it is, but the authorities on tv said to stay home until they knew if it's safe or not. I hope I can go see it soon!
3:44pm
The police left a few guards around the fallen star, but you can sneak a look if you don't get caught. It's a big crystal! Completely black, like the night sky in the big city. I should go home now.
6:23pm
My dad made some stew today, even though it's not cold outside. It was decent. I prefer mom's cooking, but ever since her mission took her off-planet, dad took on food making duty. I'll never tell him his food isn't as good as mom's. It's a secret.
I can't get this crystal out of my mind! It looked so surreal. I wonder if mom has seen those before. I hope she's all right.
10:57pm
I open my eyes, wondering if I left the lights on. Something is shining outside of my window, bathing everything in a warm yellow light. The house suddenly shakes. I can smell smoke, I can hear screaming coming from outside. What the hell is going on? I get up, kind of groggy, and look outside.
People are running, houses are burning. Ships descend onto the city, the people coming out armed and armoured, prepared for a fight. It takes me a moment to realize what it is I'm looking at. An invasion. A war.
I get whatever clothes I find laying around my room, grab my phone and hurry down the stairs. My father is in front of the window, looking out.
"Dad we have to run! We gotta go! Now! Anywhere!"
He turns to face me, calmly. He smiles.
"Why?"
What?
"What do you mean WHY?! It's an invasion! We're under attack! You were looking out a second ago!"
Wait.
His eyes are wrong.
Two black holes with emerald colored lights looking at me.
I back away from him. He takes a few steps forward.
"Let's be together as One. Like She wants. All she wants is for us to be at peace. Come now, Jamie."
Fuck. No.
I turn and run. I can't think of anything else but escaping from him. I can hear him behind me, trying to grab me. I make it to the screen door and literally tumble through it. I fall down the few backyard stairs and hit the cold, hard ground. I struggle to get up, looking back and seeing this nightmare approaching the door. He's walking towards me, doesn't even bother running.
I get myself back up and run to the forest. I know that place inside and out. If there's anywhere I can hide, it's there.

I've been hiding and running for what I think is an hour or so. It's hard to know right now. I can't figure out where exactly I am, but I can't hear anyone following me anymore. There's a faint light coming from the East, but it's not fire. It's a blueish color, the kind that comes from a screen left open a bit too long.
I start to walk closer, curious. Something inside of me knows this isn't a threat, and I'm going to follow that feeling. Anything to be safe now.
As I get closer, I can hear a low hum.
I'm creeped out but I make it to the clearing. I recognize the site, surrounded by police tape.
The meteor.
I get past the yellow stripes and approach the crystal, a gentle light coming from under its black, mirror-like surface. It feels like its calling me. Begging me for help. I touch it. It's cool to the touch, like a spoon left in the fridge. It ripples slightly.
My hand disappears inside of it.
"H-hey!" Before anything coherent comes out of me, I fall right into it, hitting the ground with a metallic thud. I groan, that hurt.
I look up to find I'm inside a spaceship of some kind. More advanced than the shuttles used to travel between colonies but still recognizable technology here.
"What the hell..." I mutter, unsure of this place.
"WELCOME ABOARD, CAPTAIN" the P.A. screams at me. The console lights up, but there's no command seat, only a pair of gloves and a collar. I think I'll explore this a bit before doing anything else.
12:36am
BANG. Something starts to hit the hull as I try on the collar. I decided it didn't look too dangerous, so on it went, and it does fit me pretty snuggly. I look out the cockpit and I can see people trying to get in. The ship lost its camouflage and now looks sleek, black as night with a sharp 7 on it painted in red.
A feminine voice comes out of the console.
"There's no time! Put on the gloves and leave this place!"
But my dad is..
"Anyone you've known is probably lost! You made it to this ship, your priority is escape!"
She makes a point. I grab the gloves in a hurry and put them on. They hum and fit themselves to me. The spacecraft rocks as I struggle to make sense of how to start the engines.
"Snap your fingers! Grab the controls and pull forward to the sky!"
I don't need to be told twice lady!
I do as she says. The moment my fingers snap, my neck suddenly stings and I can see holographic controls. I grab for them, feel the engines humming to life, and move my arms towards the stars.
In an instant, my entire world changes. There's a loud crash as I hit the atmosphere and shoot straight for outer space. I fly past gigantic black ships closing in on the Earth and decide to count myself lucky.
Two boys. An empire built upon fear and mind control. A resistance whose only focus is to take down the tyrannical Empress, the Single Minded responsible for the control of the hive mind known only as the One Empire. A destiny they could not expect would be theirs.
Those are the memory logs of the boy known to all as DuskBreaker. Before the legend, before he achieved greatness. When he was only a boy looking to save his people.
