I blew air out through my lips, they wiggled with a force which caused a horse like sound. I was so done with all the drama, I needed sleep. I was already losing balance because I was so sleepy. I held a hand to my face and yawned, quite loudly to try to alert Josh of my sleepiness but I failed, miserably.
Sam was upstairs, preparing everything for her bath, hoping not to be disturbed for a few hours so she could bathe in peace.
“SAMMY!” Josh called for her.
“What?” She called down to him.
“You wanna help me get this fire goin' down here?” He asked of her.
“Uh well I was just gettin’ into the bath,” she replied.
“Oh,” he said, “oh, well, do you need any help with that?”
I playfully gasped, “Joshua!” I smacked his shoulder as we both laughed.
“Hardy har har,” was all Sam said in reply, turning the faucet on and realizing that the water was not warm enough, “alright, Josh, let’s see if you know how to hook up the hot water in your big fancy lodge,” she called down as she turned off the water.
Sam came downstairs to hear Ashley whooping and cheering Josh on for some stupid thing I wasn’t paying any attention to, “okay, well, I’m pretty sure that somewhere in this crazy place we used to have a spirit board,” Josh said and that’s all I needed to know.
I was out, “okay, well, if y’all gonna mess with that shit, then I’m outta here,” I started moving toward the stairs but Josh caught my arm.
“Those things are a joke, man, they don’t do shit,” Chris commented and even though he was so very wrong, I didn’t stop to argue.
“No, stay, Nessie,” Josh pleaded for me to stay down there with them. “Nah man we used to do it all the time! Me, Nessie and, well-”
“Josh! Hey Josh,” Sam came walking up to us as Josh wrapped his arms around my waist and tickled me causing me to squeak whilst laughing, “no hot water is kind of a major oversight, don’t cha think?”
I quieted myself, pushing strands of my hair back behind my ears, “yeah, Josh, how ’bout them apples?”
“Oh, yeah, you gotta fire up the boiler. It’s in the basement,” he said letting go of me, “alright you two go see if you can find the spirit board.”
“Chris!” Ashley was quite excited, “let’s go find it! It’ll be like a scavenger hunt!”
“Okay then I guess so,” Chris agreed following Ashley’s sashaying ass.
“Rad, you’re not gonna regret it,” Josh said to that, “you up for a ride-along?” He asked Sam as I tried to sneak away toward the stairs.
She was smirking, rolling her eyes at the situation, “I just wanna get the boiler working so I can have hot water for my bath, Josh,” she said simply.
I moved toward Josh, pulling him over and kissing his cheek goodnight, “I’m gonna go to bed, it’s late and I’m really tired,” I said.
“Awe, well, get some sleep, hope you feel better in the morning,” Sam smiled.
I smiled back, embracing her, “thanks, Sam,” I replied to her.
“You’re not gonna stay for the fun spirit hunting, babe?” Josh asked me, obviously a bit upset.
“Awe, honey, I’m sorry but I’m really tired,” I said softly, “I didn’t sleep at all last night, I’ve been awake for like 24 hours now, I need sleep, okay?”
Josh nodded, understanding then, “alright, sleep well, don’t let the bed bugs bite.”
I was already on my way toward the staircase, “haha very funny, Josh,” I laughed at his comment as did Sam, “goodnight.”
And with that, they disappeared to find the basement to turn on the boiler so we had hot water and I disappeared upstairs. I had trouble finding which room I was supposed to stay in but I guessed that it didn’t matter seeing as I had kept my things with me, just my trusty pack with all the essential things I needed, I didn’t need much clothing, just lots of panties and bras. I could wear the same jeans all weekend with no issues. I wasn’t a super girly girl who needed a complete outfit for every day. That was overkill. I mean, I liked having clean clothes and different outfits when I was vacationing away from my home but like I didn’t need an outfit for every day and every night. That was just ridiculous.
I finally decided on a room and opened the door, stepping inside. I felt a cold chill as I entered and when I turned toward the window, I realized why. I shut the door behind me, locking it because I needed my privacy before moving toward the window. I closed the damn window because I did not need that cold winter wind chilling me while I tried to sleep, though I did question if closing it was right because when I slept, I tended to have nightmares and when I had nightmares, I sweat profusely. Sweat was less likely to appear if I had the window open.
I stood there for about ten damn minutes wondering if I should have the damn window closed or not. Finally, I decided on opening it back up. What the hell, I could always just wear my thin-knit sweater while I slept. I’d done it before and for now, I just wanted to sleep for a few hours, recharge my battery. I set an alarm on my phone to wake me in about two hours from now which was ten forty. So I should be up by twelve forty, which wasn’t so bad. Two-hour nap, then hang out with friends. Right?
Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. The alarm was set and I shed my winter jacket, seeing as I still had it on, laying it on the end of the bed and pulling my feet out of my winter boots. The cold winter wind whistled outside the window, I shivered but reminded myself I left it open for my nightmares. It would be a better outcome for when I awoke if I had nightmares which I probably would. I rolled my eyes at myself and pulled back the covers, sliding inside. I snuggled myself into the bed and sighed, relieved to be able to catch some zzz’s since I was starving for sleep.
The whistling wind outside seemed to act as a lullaby, lulling me into sleep fairly quickly. My phone laid beside me on the pillow next to the one under my head, waiting to wake me up in two hours with my favorite song: Comatose by Skillet.
