It was so strange for Nick, a rational human being, to close his eyes and try to make contact with her telepathically. Still, he didn't want to give up. He was sure there was a reason why he could communicate with someone telepathically.
Many people would have thought he was crazy, but he was sure he wasn't since she talked about things that he had no way of knowing. They say that when you are hallucinating, you can only see the things that you know, but the things she said were in many cases unfamiliar to him.
Sometimes he could've even sworn he felt her presence beside him.
What he really wanted to know was if his feeling was right. Was the woman Mia?
While he was mulling that over, an idea came to him.
One thing he knew about Mia was that she loved puns. Thus, he decided to use some of the puns with his mysterious friend and take it from there.
Before he made contact, Nick was a nervous wreck. His hands were sweating profusely, and he kept swallowing the lump in his throat.
However, once he could feel the familiar presence, Nick relaxed and fell into their regular chatting about everything and anything, mostly about their thoughts and feelings.
At one point, she said something to him, and he had a perfect pun to answer her. Once he told her the pun, he could sense that she was laughing. She even started laughing out loud, which made him feel cheerful and hopeful.
"Wouldn't it just be perfect if she was Mia? The two people that I feel comfortable around turning into one perfect person, The One. That would be wonderful," he thought.
Still, even though she laughed, that didn't prove anything. It just made Nick even more determined to figure out if they were the same person.
As they talked, he felt warm and comfortable, the way he never felt before in his life. Sometimes he had a similar emotion in his dreams, but those were just dreams, weren't they?
His mystery friend seemed more talkative and happier than he ever heard her before, and Nick couldn't help but wonder who made her feel like that. One part of him thought it had to be Mia and that he made her feel like that.
Another part of him wondered what he would feel or do if another guy made her feel that way. As the idea occurred to him, he realized that he would have been heartbroken if he lost either of them, which made him feel like they had to be the same person.
Unfortunately, before he had the chance to get some more information, she told him she was tired. Then, she went to sleep.
Overwhelmed with all the ideas and possibilities, and to make his head stop spinning, Nick went to bed as well.
That was when the dreams came to him, those magical dreams that didn't feel like dreams. Dreams about HIM that made him question everything about himself and his life.
