Linda sat up straight, terrified, trying to gather information from her surroundings on where she was. She saw Eddy sleeping on the bed, sheets drawn towards him. She relaxed physically, she always felt safe around him, whenever he was nearby.
He had come home last night, his coat bloodied and his hands dripping red. She had not said anything nor commented. She just smiled and grabbed him a clean towel, waiting for him to take a shower.
Then without a thought, she slipped in with him, and she knew Eddy was surprised. It wasn’t her getting in with him in the shower which surprised him. It was her normal reaction seeing the blood go down the drain.
After they had cleaned up, they made love with each other and slept. Eddy’s mother had gone out of town for a marriage, and they had a bit of alone time together. She was so surprised, she had almost blown her cover. She was supposed to be the wheelchair girlfriend.
She didn’t know what came over her.
She opened the curtains and sunlight poured in. It was early morning, and she didn’t want to be late. She got in the shower and got ready for the day. She opened Eddy’s wardrobe and went towards the bottom most shelf and unscrew screws on each side.
She pulled the wooden plank out and brought out a white uniform, her name shining through the sunlight. She wore it quickly and kissed Eddy on his forehead. She got out of the house, aware of the many hidden CCTVs hidden inside Eddy’s house, capturing everything he did. Many voice recorders had been placed over discreet places, capturing everything he said.
Eddy was a main suspect in a big drug market, and was rumoured to have ties with the Colombians. Her good looks and nature had ensured closeness with him, but she wasn’t able to make him open his mouth. Until now, that is. The blood was all she needed.
She walked out of the house, suddenly aware of someone watching her. Watching her closely, out of curiosity.
She called up a cab and went to her police headquarters. She entered the huge building and went to her boss’s office. An old but immensely muscular man in white uniform saw her and smiled.
“Good morning Linda Mcmahon! What have you gathered?”
Linda suddenly felt like she was betraying Eddy in some way, and this had never happened in her job. She had ‘befriended’ many men to gather information, and killed many more for valuable information. It was part of her job.
But this feeling was overwhelming. She had never really loved another man, except her dad, but that was because of blood. The information she had could break the entire drug dealing in London.
Yesterday’s fiasco with the Bento brothers and their pub had not gone as expected. The Ferreto brothers, who were part of their force, had been killed in cold blood. The other two were still missing.
The deal was to bring out the brothers, by hook or crook. She very well knew that literally half of the police working here got paid more than their salary by Carl, just so they wouldn’t put their nose in their business.
It shamed her to think that her own colleagues could do that, getting paid by a thug to do their own job.
But it wasn’t their fault, she knew that. The policemen got paid very less, and more than half had a family to feed. The money given to them was a saving gracious.
She took a deep sigh. Nevertheless, she had to tell.
It was her job after all.
